Method 1 of 2: Word 2013 and Up
Step 1. Open Microsoft Word, or double-click an existing Word document to open it in Microsoft Word
Step 2. Click the "Blank document" option
Skip this step if you are opening an existing document.
Step 3. Click the Insert tab in the upper left corner of the Word interface
Step 4. Click Charts
Step 5. Click the chart layout on the left of the Chart menu
The appropriate format for your data may vary depending on the type of information to be displayed
Step 6. Select a graphic style at the top of the layout options
Step 7. Click OK
The Excel window will appear below the chart.
Step 8. Enter the data on the chart by following these steps:
- Click a cell in Excel.
- Input the data.
- Press Enter.
Step 9. Click the X button in the Excel section to close the window
After the Excel window closes, the data will be saved in the chart.
Method 2 of 2: Word 2007 and 2010
Step 1. Open Microsoft Word 2007, or double-click an existing Word document to open it in Microsoft Word
Step 2. Click the Insert tab in the upper left corner of the Word interface
Step 3. Click Charts
Step 4. Select a chart layout on the left of the Chart window
The appropriate format for your data may vary depending on the type of information to be displayed
Step 5. Select a graphic style on the right of the layout options
Step 6. Click OK
A Microsoft Excel 2007 window will open.
Step 7. Enter the data on the chart by following these steps:
- Click a cell in Excel.
- Input the data.
- Press Enter.
Step 8. Once done, close the Excel window
The graph will appear according to the data you entered.
Tips
- By default, the data section of the graph will have the name "Category X" ("X" here refers to the section number). You can make the section name more descriptive by clicking the cell containing the section name and entering a new name.
- You can also give a chart a title by clicking Layout > Chart Title in Word 2007/2010, or by clicking the "Chart Title" text in newer versions of Word.
- The appropriate chart format for your data may vary depending on the type of information to be displayed. Experiment with different graphic layouts.
- If you forget to save the document, you may be able to view the cached version of the document by reopening Word.
