If it's hard to find the perfect candle or you want to make your own at home, you can try melting wax (wax) to make candles. Prepare soybean oil, beeswax, or paraffin wax for melting in a double boiler or microwave. After that, add perfume or dye to the wax solution. Pour the wax into the mold container and let it harden.
Step
Part 1 of 4: Cutting the Night
Step 1. Prepare soybean oil wax or beeswax
Soybean oil candles work great with perfumes and dyes. However, some soybean oil waxes also contain paraffin. Therefore, always check the composition of the candle before buying it. Beeswax contains natural ingredients, but is difficult to combine with perfumes.
- If you have used candles, use a spoon to scrape the wax out of the container. After that, separate the candles based on their aroma.
- Paraffin is a type of wax that blends easily with perfumes and dyes. However, paraffins generally contain petrolatum which is toxic. Therefore, avoid paraffin whenever possible.
Step 2. Slice the wax into small pieces and put them in a bowl
If the wax is too large, take a small knife and slice it into small pieces. Each night piece should measure approximately 3 cm.
If the size of the night is small enough, you can skip this stage
Step 3. Grate 85 grams of crayon to color the wax
If you want to color the wax, use a cheese grater, pencil sharpener, or knife to grate the crayons. Continue to grate the crayons until you can fill the 85 ml jar.
You can also mix different colors of crayons
Step 4. Know the flash point and melting point of the night
For best results, know the melting point the night before starting to melt it. Never heat the night to the flash point. The night will burn when it hits this point.
- The melting point of beeswax is 62-64 °C and its flash point is 204 °C.
- The melting point of soybean oil wax is 49-82 °C, depending on the blend. The flash point of soybean oil candles is quite variable.
- The melting point of paraffin is above 37 °C. The flash point of paraffin without additives is 199 °C, and with additives is 249 °C.
Part 2 of 4: Melting the Night with a Double Kettle
Step 1. Prepare a double boiler to melt the night
Place a large pot on the stove. Fill with 5 cm of water. After that, place the smaller pot into the first pot filled with water.
Use an electric stove instead of a gas stove
Step 2. Put 250 grams of wax into a double boiler
This is the right amount of nightly to fill a 250 gram jar. If you want to color the night, add crayons that have been grated at this stage.
Step 3. Heat the night at 160-170 °C for 10-15 minutes
This is the medium temperature on the electric hob (positions 3-5 on the hob knob). Measure the night temperature using a thermometer, then adjust the temperature to keep it stable. Stir the night using a wooden spoon every few minutes. Mash up large chunks of wax with a spoon.
- When the water in the large saucepan starts to run low, add more water until it is sufficient.
- If the night temperature exceeds 170 °C, turn off the stove until the temperature returns to normal.
Step 4. Add perfume after the night melts
Pour the perfume into the night while continuing to heat. Stir using a wooden spoon for about 30 seconds so that the perfume is completely mixed.
- When using a wax specifically designed to be used as a candle, there will generally be instructions indicating how much perfume is needed for every 500 grams of wax.
- If the perfume doesn't mix well, raise the stove temperature to 185°C.
- Generally, 500 grams of wax requires 30 ml of perfume.
Part 3 of 4: Melt the Night in the Microwave
Step 1. Put 250 grams of wax in a heatproof bowl
This is the right amount to fill a 250 ml jar. If you want to color the night, also add grated crayon to the bowl.
If using a plastic bowl, make sure it is microwave safe. Bowls made of ceramic or glass are generally safe to use. However, make sure there is a label indicating that the bowl is microwave safe
Step 2. Microwave the night for 3-4 minutes
After that, remove the night and stir using a spoon. Measure the temperature and make sure it has not exceeded the melting point or night flash point. Continue to heat the night for 2 minutes until completely melted.
Check nightly every 30 seconds while heating
Step 3. Add perfume after the night melts
Remove the bowl containing the wax from the microwave. Gently pour the perfume into the bowl. Stir with a small spoon to mix evenly.
Check the recommended amount of perfume beforehand. Most night manufacturers list the amount of perfume needed for every 500 grams of wax. Generally, every 500 grams of the night requires 30 ml of perfume
Step 4. Reheat the night for 2 minutes
After adding the perfume and mixing it well, put the bowl back in the microwave. Heat for 2 minutes so that the night melts completely. After that, gently remove the bowl from the microwave and stir.
Part 4 of 4: Pouring Liquid Night
Step 1. Place a tissue or newspaper on a flat surface
Liquid night drops can make a mess. Therefore, protect your work area with a tissue or newspaper. Have containers, jars, and wicks near you. Remember, night drops can harden in just 1-2 minutes.
Step 2. Glue the wick into the container
If the wick has a sticker underneath, use this sticker to glue the wick to the bottom of the container. If you don't have a sticker, apply a little superglue to the bottom of the container, then glue the wick to the glue. Stand the wick for 2-3 minutes to allow the glue to harden completely in the correct position.
Alternatively, you can also use molten wax to glue the wick to the candle holder
Step 3. Turn off the stove and let the night cool down until the temperature reaches 130-140 °C
This is the optimal temperature for pouring wax into the container. Place the pan containing the wax on a flat surface. Measure the night temperature with a thermometer. Let the night cool for 3-5 minutes.
Step 4. Gently pour the wax into the container while holding the wick
When pouring the wax into the container, hold the wick in position so that it stays in the center of the container and stands upright. Leave some of the night in the pan for later.
Do not pull the wick too tightly to prevent it from breaking or breaking
Step 5. Secure the wick with a pencil
If the wick doesn't stand up straight, place two pencils horizontally on top of the holder. After that, pinch the wick between the two pencils. As long as the wick can stand upright when the night hardens, the wick should not be clamped too tightly.
Align the axis if it doesn't fit properly. If left unchecked, the wick will not burn completely
Step 6. Wait for 2-3 hours for the wax to harden
As the wax begins to harden, the center may set slightly. Once the wax has hardened, reheat the remaining wax in the pan. After that, pour it over the candle until the sunken part is completely filled. When it is filled enough, stop. Adding too much molten wax will cause the top of the candle to set again.
For best results, let the wax harden overnight at room temperature
Step 7. Cut the wick to a length of 0.5 cm
Make sure the wick is not too long so that the fire is not too big. Gently pull the wick and then cut with scissors.
If when the wick is lit the fire is too big, the wick is too long
Tips
- Stir the night with a wooden spoon until completely melted.
- You can also add a little peppermint, lavender, or other fragrance.
Warning
- Don't add too much perfume! The candle will be too strong and difficult to light.
- Have a small fire extinguisher ready and know how to use it.
