A piña colada is a sweet and delicious cocktail made with rum, coconut cream, and pineapple juice. This drink can be blended, frozen, or mixed with ice, depending on your taste. The piña colada has been Puerto Rico's official drink since 1978, but you can enjoy this tropical drink from the comfort of your own home. If you want to know how to make one, just follow these steps.

Step
Method 1 of 3: Making a Basic Piña Colada (Easy Way)
Step 1. Put 140 grams of crushed ice cubes into a blender
Ice cubes like this are the easiest type to grind in a blender.
Step 2. Add 30 ml of thick coconut milk to the blender
This step will add a hint of coconut flavor to your delicious drink without going overboard.
Step 3. Add 60 ml of white rum to the blender
This alcohol will give the piña colada the kick you're looking for. To make a virgin piña colada, you can skip this step.
Step 4. Add 90 ml of pineapple juice to the blender
Step 5. Blend all ingredients together
Set the blender on medium speed and mix all the ingredients together until they all come together. The piña colada should be soft, sweet and creamy.
Step 6. Pour the piña colada into a glass
Step 7. Decorate
Garnish the drink by adding a slice of pineapple to the glass. You can also add maraschino cherries to the drink. Enjoy this piña colada on a hot summer day -- or whenever you want.

Method 2 of 3: Making Cold Creamy Piña Coladas
Step 1. Crush 280 grams of crushed ice cubes
Place the ice in a blender and puree on high speed to break up any large chunks of ice and make a smooth piña colada.
Step 2. Put the rest of the ingredients in a blender
Add 90 ml of thick coconut milk, 180 ml of pineapple juice, 45 ml of heavy cream and 60 ml of rum in a blender.
Step 3. Blend these ingredients on high speed for 15 seconds
Blend until all the ingredients are mixed into a cold thick solution.
Step 4. Pour the drink into a glass
Any glass can be used, but a hurricane or tall glass will make for a nicer look.
Step 5. Garnish the drink with maraschino cherries
Slice halfway into the flesh of the cherry and place it on the rim of the glass.
Step 6. Place the straw in the Piña Colada
This cold drink will taste very good if you sip it through a straw.
Step 7. Serve
Enjoy this delicious drink anytime.
Method 3 of 3: Making a Strawberry Piña Colada
Step 1. Put the strawberries and sugar in a food processor
Place 150 grams of strawberries -- cleaned and cut into quarters -- and 2 tablespoons of sugar in a food processor. Grind the mixture until smooth and the strawberries puree with sugar.
Step 2. Put the strawberry puree and other ingredients in a kettle
Place the pureed strawberries, 120 ml of pineapple juice, 180 ml of mango juice, 90 ml of white rum and 60 ml of triple sec in a large saucepan. Stir the ingredients to combine everything.
Step 3. Put it in the fridge
Refrigerate the mixture for at least an hour.
Step 4. Serve
Put this fresh strawberry cocktail in a cooled martini glass and garnish with a sprig of mint.
Tips
- You can make more than one serving of piña colada at a time by double or triple the amount of these ingredients.
- If after blending you notice that the piña colada is too runny, you can add more crushed ice and grind it again.
Warning
- When looking for coconut cream or thick coconut milk, look for containers that are specifically labeled "condensed coconut milk" rather than "coconut milk". Both are different products.
- Never make more than three servings of piña coladas in one go. Most blenders can't handle more than 3 servings and your ingredients won't mix.
