Are you looking for a fun dessert that doesn't need to be baked? Graham balls are a sweet treat that you can make quickly using a few simple ingredients. Start with simple graham balls, or get creative and experiment with your favorite candy and flavors.
Total time: 20-25 minutes
Ingredients
- Mini marshmallows
- 1/3 cup sweetened condensed milk
- Graham Biscuits (crushed)
Step
Method 1 of 2: Making Graham Balls
Step 1. Pour the crushed graham crackers into a medium sized bowl
You can buy crushed graham crackers or crush them yourself. You can make as many graham balls as you have ingredients, but 2 cups of crushed graham crackers is a good place to start and will make about 6 graham balls.
Crushing graham crackers takes a little time and effort. If you prefer to crush the biscuits yourself, try using a mortar and pestle
Step 2. Add 1/3 cup of sweetened condensed milk
Pour the sweetened condensed milk over the crushed graham crackers and mix them together with a plastic spatula until well combined. Try to produce a mixture that is slightly lumpy and has a gritty texture. The mixture should not be too wet or too dry and should stick together slightly.
Step 3. Roll your graham balls
Take the dough using a tablespoon and place it in your palms and roll it between your palms to make a round shape.
Make sure you wash your hands first
Step 4. Press the graham ball into a flat circle
Holding the ball in the palm of your hand, gently press it with the other hand. Apply gentle pressure to produce a flat, even surface.
- Do not press too hard or the dough may crumble.
- Don't worry about the cracked edges. You will roll it back into a ball shape.
Step 5. Add your favorite filling
Press some mini marshmallows or even chocolate chips into the center of a flat graham ball. Read some suggestions on creative filling in the next section.
Make sure not to put too much stuffing into your balls. Keep the marshmallows centered and in small piles. If you try to put too much stuffing into your graham balls, they won't close properly
Step 6. Recap the graham balls into a ball
After placing a few marshmallows in the center of the dough slab, gently fold the edges so that they come together while gently pressing down on the center. Bring the edges together at the top of the ball.
The goal is to fold the dough completely, covering the filling inside
Step 7. Smooth the edges
After folding the edges, hold the graham ball between your palms and gently roll it back into a ball shape, applying slight pressure. Repeat steps to make more graham balls.
Step 8. Enjoy
You can chew your graham balls right away or refrigerate them beforehand for about 5-10 minutes. Sprinkle powdered sugar or coconut flakes on top and enjoy with a glass of milk. You can even wrap graham balls and give them as gifts or party treats.
You can store graham balls for up to 2 weeks in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Otherwise, plan to eat it in a few days
Method 2 of 2: Get Creative with Graham Balls
Step 1. Experiment with fillings
Try crushing your favorite candy bar and popping some of its pieces into a ball. You can also mix different candy bars or use half marshmallow and half candy. Try melting the filling in the microwave and then scooping it into the graham balls with a spoon.
- If you're looking for an alternative to marshmallows and candy, try filling your graham balls with raspberry jam and dried fruit or nuts!
- You can even fill graham balls with peanut butter.
Step 2. Have fun decorating
You can roll graham balls in a bowl of powdered sugar or coconut flakes, but there are many other things you can try too. Roll your graham balls in a bowl of sprinkles or dip them in melted chocolate. You can also sprinkle chocolate syrup on top of your graham balls.
Try sprinkling some chopped nuts over or over the surface of the graham balls
Step 3. Frosting
Cover your graham balls with chocolate, vanilla, or whatever frosting you prefer to make delicious graham balls cake pops!
Step 4. Be creative with shapes
Your graham balls don't have to be round. You can use cookie cutters to make a variety of shapes. Make heart-shaped graham balls or use holiday-themed cookie cutters to make delicious holiday treats.
- This way, the graham balls will be more like cookies. Don't try to put a lot of filling into the graham balls that will be formed using a cookie cutter. Instead, cover it with creative toppings!
- Using a cookie cutter can thin your graham balls in places, which can cause them to crumble. Chill in the refrigerator for a few minutes to solidify.
Step 5. Make up-to-date graham balls
Collect a variety of fun ingredients and invite friends over to your house to experiment with the endless possibilities of graham balls. Make different types and try them all!
Tips
- Warm hands can make the graham dough soft. You can solidify it by putting it in the refrigerator.
- A wooden skewer or thick toothpick will help dip the graham balls into the chocolate. Once dipped, allow excess chocolate to drain and slide a fork under the ball with the skewer in the slit of the fork to gently pull the skewer from the bottom of the ball.
- Be sure to wash your hands before making graham balls and trim your long nails, if possible.
- Wearing disposable gloves will prevent your hands from getting dirty and keep the sweetened condensed milk from sticking to your palms.
