Many people choose vodka when drinking liquor. The number of people who choose vodka is almost as many as the variety of vodka cocktails in the world. The variety is good, but the large selection of vodka cocktails is high in calories. You can make your own low-calorie vodka drink or follow a try-and-proven recipe, which will give you a delicious drink without breaking your calorie intake record.
Step
Method 1 of 2: Making Your Own Low Calorie Vodka Drink
Step 1. Drink straight vodka
This is the easiest option. You won't get any lower calories when you drink vodka unless you drink it straight away. Since this option doesn't require any ingredients, you don't have to worry about the fridge or cupboard being full – just pour in and enjoy!
- There are several common ways to enjoy vodka firsthand. You can drink it very quickly, in one gulp (a shot), or you can put the vodka on ice and sip it (this method is called “on the rock”).
- For even lower calories, consider brands that promote low-calorie vodka. Skinny Girl Cocktail makes several different low-calorie vodkas. One 1.5-ounce (42.5-g) serving contains 75.6 calories, compared to regular vodka which has 96 calories on average per one 1.5-ounce (42.5-g) serving. This can definitely add up!
- Keep in mind that most liquors that contain fewer calories can have lower calories by cutting down on the alcohol. So you need to drink more of it to achieve the same effect as regular liquor. However, depending on your reasons for consuming alcohol, this may not mean much to you.
Step 2. Try flavor-infused vodka
Flavor-infused vodka is a flavored vodka that is free of added calories. Many vodka brands sell a variety of infused vodka, including Belvedere, Burnett's, and Gray Goose, and infused vodka has been a trend for the past few years.
- Infused vodka can provide a more flavorful and interesting experience when drunk straight and not using high-calorie mixtures such as juices. Many store-bought infused vodkas are mixed with things you might have guessed, like lemons or berries, or cucumbers. However, there are also exotic ones, such as radishes, bacon, and smoked salmon.
- Making your own infused vodka is super easy too! You can use almost any type of fruit and vegetable. Some people even put coffee beans in their vodka. Wait a few days, then strain the liquid and abracadabra: vodka with a certain taste you have!
- You can make your own version of delicious watermelon-infused vodka. Use fresh watermelon or watermelon flavored candy.
Step 3. Mix the vodka with the low-calorie mixture
Diet Coke and other low-calorie sodas are popular mixes, which will add no calories to the vodka. Other common choices are cranberry juice, diet iced tea, diet lemonade, and lime juice.
- Since the calories in vodka tend to be fairly common among the rest (unless you opt for a low-calorie vodka), the only way to drink alcohol without a lot of calories is to be careful what you mix in your alcohol.
- Sugar is the main culprit in the calorie count in mixed drinks. This is why most of these low-calorie blends are either low in sugar or have replaced sugar with substitutes, such as Stevia or Sweet'n Low. In fact, there is Triple Sec without sugar.
- If you're using a blend that has a large number of calories, use less. The taste you get may not be the same as usual, but it's still delicious. However, be aware that using a little bit of the calorie mix won't necessarily affect the taste. In fact, traditional vodka martinis use very little dry vermouth, so as not to make the drink contain too many calories.
Method 2 of 2: Making a Low Calorie Vodka Recipe
Step 1. Mix vodka with club soda and Mio
Add one sip of vodka to an 8 oz (226, 8 g) glass filled with ice; then fill with fresh club soda. Add two squeezes of your favorite flavored Mio, stir, and garnish with lemon.
The fresher the club soda, the more bubbles you get
Step 2. Try vodka with Crystal Light and lime
Make a Crystal Light first with your favorite flavor and put it in the refrigerator for a few hours. Put ice in an 8oz (226, 8g) glass, add a sip of vodka, then fill with Crystal Light. Squeeze the lemon wedges and stir.
Crystal Light only contains 5 calories per serving and comes in many flavors (lime, strawberry, orange, etc.), so you can make this drink depending on your mood or personal taste
Step 3. Mix the raspberry cocktail
Combine cup ice or ice cubes, 8oz (226, 8g) Minute Maid Light Raspberry Passion, and 1.5oz. (42.5 g) vodka in a blender. Garnish with fresh raspberries.
This drink contains only 115 calories, so you can have it twice
Step 4. Make a citrus strawberry cocktail
Take 2 strawberries, 1 sprig of mint, oz (21.26 g) light agave nectar, 1.75 oz. (49.6gr) citrus vodka, and 3/4 oz. (21.26 g) lemon juice. Mix together the strawberries and mint leaves in a whisk. Then, add the rest of the ingredients and beat vigorously for 20 seconds with ice.
