Drinking alcohol in one gulp with a friend or your gang can be a unique gathering experience. However, drinking alcohol straight from a shot glass is quite challenging. With the right technique, you can drink alcohol straight away without choking or feeling like throwing up.
Step
Method 1 of 3: Drinking Alcohol from Seloki
Step 1. Find a chaser
Chaser is a drink that is used to reduce the taste of alcohol. Prepare soda, juice, or beer to drink with alcohol. You need to take a sip of the chaser just after drinking the liquor to get the alcohol taste off your tongue. Make sure the chaser is ready before you drink from the shot.
- You can also take a few sips of the chaser before gulping down the liquor and holding it in your mouth. Sip your drink, then swallow the chaser along with the liquor. Once swallowed, take another sip of your chaser.
- Depending on the type of alcohol (such as tequila), you may need to prepare lemon, lime, or salt before drinking.
- Beer is the most common chaser. Tequila can be "tamed" with a light beer, such as the Tecate, Corona, or Pacifico. While Bourbon is suitable to be drunk with imperial stout type beer. Use whatever beer you like or ask the bar concierge for advice.
- If you drink whiskey, try using pickle juice as a chaser.
Step 2. Tilt your head back
Tilt your head slightly while lifting the shotgun to your mouth. Keep looking up while sipping your drink in the shot. The shotgun should be turned upside down when you're done drinking. This movement will make it easier for you to swallow the drink through your esophagus.
- Don't look back too far. You certainly don't want to choke on a drink.
- Make sure you keep your head up and shoot. Just lifting one of these two things can lead to chaos. For example, if you lift your glass without tilting your head back, you could spill the drink on your shirt.
Step 3. Breathe through your mouth
Breathe in the air before opening your mouth to drink. Don't exhale before sipping your drink. Exhaling before drinking can make you vomit. After you finish drinking, exhale through your mouth again.
- Do not breathe through your nose while sipping a drink. Breathing through your nose will amplify the taste of the drink.
- Remember to breathe before drinking. Breathing while drinking will make you inhale the pungent smell of alcohol and cough up.
Step 4. Swallow your drink immediately
The liquor that is placed in the shotgun should be drunk as quickly as possible, not slurped. Holding your drink in your mouth will only make it harder for you to swallow or make you want to throw up. You will also feel a sharp sensation of alcohol taste if you don't swallow it right away.
- Holding back a drink can also allow the liquid alcohol to go into the wrong hole.
- Relax your jaw and throat when swallowing.
Method 2 of 3: Preparing Your Drink
Step 1. Choose your liquor
There are many options for a quick sip of alcohol. Most shot glasses are filled with a 40% alcoholic beverage, such as rum, whiskey, tequila, vodka, or gin. If you're trying to avoid a hangover the next day, opt for a pure alcoholic beverage such as vodka, gin, or some tequila.
- High-quality alcohol not only tastes better, but also reduces the risk of alcoholism. Opt for premium liquor if possible.
- Black liquor (such as rum, whiskey, bourbon) contains higher amounts of chemical additives. The bigger chemical additives will make your hangover worse.
- Black liquor tends to have a stronger taste than light alcohol. If you don't have a preference, you may want to opt for a light booze.
Step 2. Measure the drink you want to drink
The usual dose of alcohol in a shotgun in the United States is 44 ml, but shotguns come in different sizes. If you order a drink at the bar, ask for a shot of it. Two shots on the bar usually contain 59 ml of alcohol. If you prepare your own drink, use a measuring spoon: 3 tablespoons or 9 teaspoons is the equivalent of 45 ml of liquor downed from a shot.
- If you don't have a measuring spoon, you can use a Solo brand cup. The bottom of the Solo cup has a capacity of 30 ml
- The medicine cup included in the cough medicine bottle can also be used. The cups are usually 60 ml in capacity and have a measuring line inside.
Step 3. Make this activity a place to socialize
Drinking alcohol in one gulp is more fun to do with other people. If you're doing it with friends, order drinks at the same time and wait for everyone to have a drink before sipping them.
- Give a toast and ask everyone to raise their glasses.
- If you're drinking with other people, don't feel pressured to drink as much as they are or pressure others to drink more.
Method 3 of 3: Drink Alcohol Responsibly
Step 1. Eat before drinking alcohol
Eating before drinking alcohol will make the body absorb alcohol more slowly. Make sure you're eating enough, not just snacking (like chips, dipped treats, pretzels, etc.). High-protein foods (such as meat, cheese, and nuts) are best eaten when you drink alcohol.
Alcohol causes you to become dehydrated. Do not eat salty food while drinking alcohol
Step 2. Have someone sober drive you home
Before leaving the house, make sure you know who will be taking you home. If you don't have a driver, call a taxi or use the services of Grab or Gojek to get home safely. If you're drinking with friends, spend time at your friend's house instead of driving home alone. If you notice someone has had too much to drink, think about how to get them home safely.
- Alcohol slows your reaction time, blurs your vision, and makes it difficult for you to process information. This can increase the risk of an accident while driving.
- If you plan to drive home, drink alcohol with your meal and don't drink more than one glass of wine, beer, mixed drinks, or booze from a shot. Again, it's best not to drink alcohol if you plan to drive.
Step 3. Don't rush
Your body can't respond to alcohol quickly. If you drink too fast, your body doesn't have a chance to adapt. For example, if you drink three shots of alcohol at once, you will feel fine, then start to feel dizzy when you walk to the bathroom 30 minutes later.
- Try not to drink more than one wine (150 ml), beer (350 ml), mixed drinks, or high-alcohol liquor (44 ml) per hour.
- Changing drinks is another method you can try to slow down your drinking tempo. Drink a glass of water or other non-alcoholic beverage for every glass of alcohol you consume.
Step 4. Do not exceed the daily limit
Women should not drink more than once per day, while men should not drink more than twice per day. The dose per drink is 350 ml of beer, 240 ml of malted liquor, 150 ml of wine or 44 ml of liquor. You should avoid binge drinking. What is meant by binge drinking is drinking five or more types of drinks at one time if you are a man or drinking four or more types of drinks at one time if you are a woman.
- If you or anyone you know has an addiction or alcohol poisoning problem, call the National Poisoning Information Center (SIKer) on 0813-1082-6879.
- Excessive drinking can cause many health problems, such as cancer, high blood pressure, and injuries.
- If you are pregnant, do not drink alcohol. Alcohol is very harmful to your fetus.
Warning
- Never accept drinks from strangers or walk away from yours. If you leave a drink to go to the bathroom, don't drink it again after you return.
- Underage drinking is illegal. The legal age for consuming alcohol in Indonesia is 21 years and over.
