Grilled chicken is an easy dish to make even for beginners. It won't take you long to prepare, and if you follow the guide below, you'll be able to make a delicious and nutritious roast chicken in just an hour. There are several ways you can follow, and each has a different cooking time. Here are three of them.
Ingredients
- 1 chicken, whole or chopped (to taste)
- Olive oil
- Salt and pepper
- Other seasonings or seasonings (to taste)
- Grill mat or tray
Step
Method 1 of 3: Grilling Whole Chicken
Step 1. Preheat the oven to 230 degrees Celsius
If you use a convection oven, you can heat it up to 218 degrees Celsius.
Step 2. Rinse and clean the chicken using cold water
Make sure you clean the contents, as well as remove any remaining internal organs. Dry after washing.
Step 3. Apply olive oil on the chicken and rub it on the skin
Two tablespoons of olive oil (or butter) should be enough for one chicken.
Step 4. Season the outside of the chicken with salt and pepper
Add other herbs or spices in this step if you wish.
Step 5. Add one or two lemons that have been sliced and put in the chicken body (according to taste)
The lemon will add flavor, moisture and aroma to the chicken.
Step 6. Place the chicken on a tray or grill mat
Cover the surface of the tray with aluminum foil so that you can easily clean the tray later.
Step 7. Tie the two chicken thighs together
Tying the chicken thighs together will make the meat cook faster. (Usually, the meat on the breast is cooked before the meat on the thigh, thus making the white meat dry when the dark side of the meat is cooked.)
Step 8. Bake for 20 minutes, then lower the oven heat to 200 degrees Celsius
Then wait another 40 minutes until the deepest part of the chicken has a temperature of 76 to 82 degrees Celsius.
Step 9. When done, remove from oven and cover chicken with aluminum foil for 15 minutes
This will make the juice stay. If you cut the chicken immediately after removing it from the oven, the juice will be lost, making the chicken cider less tasty.
Step 10. Serve and enjoy
Method 2 of 3: Roasting Chicken
Step 1. Preheat the oven to 205 degrees Celsius
If you are using an electric or gas oven, preheat it to 205 degrees Celsius. If you are using a convection oven, preheat it to 190 degrees Celsius.
Step 2. Prepare the chicken while waiting for the oven to heat up
If the chicken is still whole, cut into pieces as desired (into 8, 12, or 16 pieces), rinse and clean and then pat dry. If you are using pre-cut chicken, then all you need to do is clean and dry it.
Step 3. Pour and spread about two tablespoons of olive oil onto the grill tray
If you want to save time or are lazy to clean the tray after using it later, line the tray with aluminum foil. When you're done cooking, you can simply lift and remove the aluminum foil
Step 4. Place the chicken pieces onto the grill tray
Make sure each piece is evenly exposed to the olive oil.
Step 5. Add any aromatic, herbal, or vegetable seasonings to the grill tray (according to your taste)
The chicken will have a more appetizing taste by adding lemon, onions, carrots, garlic, and more. Go through several cookbooks to find a combination you like.
Step 6. Sprinkle with salt, pepper and other seasonings
Step 7. Start baking
Place the grill tray along with the chicken into the preheated oven. Wait for 30 minutes, then lower the heat by 10 degrees Celsius and then wait another 30 minutes.
Step 8. Check for doneness five minutes before removing
Check by sticking a fork into the chicken. If the chicken juice looks clear, it means the chicken is cooked. If not, wait for another five minutes.
Step 9. Lift and let stand
Once cooked and removed from the oven, let the chicken rest for five minutes. This will allow the chicken juice to reabsorb into the meat, making the meat moist and tender.
Step 10. Serve and enjoy
Method 3 of 3: Roasting Butterfly Chicken
Step 1. Cut your chicken in half to form a butterfly
Split the chicken on the back so that you can spread it out on a flat tray. Split chicken requires a shorter cooking time than usual. In addition, many consider that chicken baked in this way is tastier.
Step 2. Preheat the oven to 230 degrees Celsius
If you use a convection oven, you can heat the oven to just 218 degrees Celsius.
Step 3. Rinse and clean the chicken with cold water
Make sure you also clean the inside and remove the internal organs if they are still there. Dry after washing.
Step 4. Cut or split your chicken
Start by laying the chicken breast down:
- Using meat scissors, cut off one side of the spine, from front to back.
- Cut the backbone on the other side from front to back. Remove the spine.
- Open the chicken, then look for the cartilage located in the middle that is shaped like a fang.
- Cut the membrane that holds the cartilage together. Insert two fingers under the bone, then pull the bone.
-
Flip the chicken over, then spread it out like a butterfly, with the thighs toward you.
Step 5. Place the chicken on the grill tray
Cover the tray with aluminum foil if you want to make cleaning the tray easier.
Step 6. Pour and brush the chicken with olive oil
Two tablespoons of olive oil (or butter) should be enough for one chicken.
Step 7. Season the outside of the chicken with salt and pepper
If you want to use other herbs or spices, sprinkle them in this step as well.
Step 8. Bake the chicken for 45 minutes in the oven at 230 degrees Celsius
Bake until the meat reaches a temperature of 79 to 82 degrees Celsius.
Step 9. Once cooked, remove from oven and cover with aluminum foil for 10 to 15 minutes
This will allow the juice to absorb. Immediately cutting the chicken out of the oven will strip the juices and make them taste less good.
Step 10. Serve and enjoy
Tips
To shorten your preparations for dinner, place vegetables such as potatoes, onions, and carrots in a grill tray and roast along with the chicken. Also pour olive oil on the vegetables. Make sure you cut the vegetables to the right size so they cook evenly
