Ramen is a very special instant food. If you want it right now -- like, “right now” -- making it in the microwave shortens it all. You can learn to cook your noodles quickly and efficiently in the microwave, and some neat ways to embellish your noodles into real food. See step one to learn more about making ramen in the microwave.
Step
Method 1 of 3: Making Packaged Ramen
Step 1. Remove the noodles from the packaging
Some ramen enthusiasts like to break the noodles while the packaging is still closed, making the noodles shorter so they are easier to eat with a spoon, while others prefer to leave the noodles in blocks to slurp in the traditional style. It is up to you how you want to eat it.
Step 2. Put the noodles in a microwave-safe bowl and add some water
Usually, you will need between 1 or 2 cups of water, depending on the size of the bowl and the amount of gravy you want.
- To prevent splattering in the microwave, it's a good idea to cover or cover the bowl with a piece of food paper. The noodles will sometimes float in the bowl, but that's nothing to worry about. The noodles will cook well.
- Make sure your bowl is microwave safe within a few minutes. Plastic and cork containers are controversial for some users, due to concerns about BPA and other toxins that can contaminate food during the microwave.
Step 3. Microwave your ramen for three to five minutes
Put your noodles in the microwave, set the timer, and start waiting. The exact time it takes to cook varies, as microwaves differ from one another.
To help the noodles cook evenly, and check to make sure they're not over-boiled (which can result in overcooked and disgusting noodles without a bite), stop the microwave midway through cooking and stir with a fork. If you want the noodles to stay in the block position, press down a little, or flip the block over to keep it intact
Step 4. Let the noodles rest for about three minutes after the microwave stops
Don't take it out right away! Many tongue burns occur in over-anxious ramen eaters. Let the noodles sit for three minutes in the covered microwave, and you'll be keeping your hands and mouth safe, letting them finish peacefully and cool to less than nuclear temperature.
If you have to get the ramen out quickly, wear cooking gloves or another heat protectant and be careful. Luckily, this is a good time to add flavorings, when the water is still nice and hot
Step 5. Mix the flavoring packets
This is the time to do it. Stir the noodles with a spoon or fork until the flavors are combined, then pour your cooked ramen into another bowl, if you wish, and the deliciousness begins.
Alternatively, some ramen connoisseurs like to add flavorings before the noodles are cooked. This is usually easier if you cook it on the stove, although it is still possible to do this in the microwave. If you like to add flavor to the cooking of the noodles (this is a great way to make the noodles tastier), put the noodles and flavoring packets in a bowl first, then add some water on top and dissolve
Method 2 of 3: Boiling Water Separately
Step 1. Measure 1-2 cups of water in a microwave-safe container
Another easy way to make noodles in the microwave is to boil water separately and add to the noodles, letting them soak. If you like your noodles tougher, this is a great way to cook them in the microwave.
Depending on how much gravy you want, anywhere between 1 or 2 cups may suffice. A little water will boil faster, but you have to make sure you have enough water to make the amount of gravy you want
Step 2. Microwave for at least 2 or 3 minutes
Because of the way the microwave processes water atoms, you won't see the water boil as consistently and steamy as you would when boiling water on the stove. Sometimes, the water doesn't even look hot. Try it several times on a 2-3 minute setting in the microwave, stirring quickly in between.
When you are sure the water is hot, remove it carefully using cooking gloves
Step 3. Place the noodles in a separate bowl
While the water is cooking in the microwave, remove the noodles from the packaging and place them in a separate bowl. You can add the flavoring packet now if you want, or keep it until the noodles are half cooked.
Step 4. Pour boiling water over noodles, or in noodle cups
When you get your hot water, pour it over the noodles, cover the bowl with cooking paper, plate, or lid, and let the noodles sit for 3 to 5 minutes, until the noodles are soft and tasty. Then enjoy!
Instructions on Cup Noodles or Instant Lunch in the microwave are sometimes dubious. While judges sometimes remain tight-lipped about how dangerous it is to microwave Styrofoam, it's better to heat the water separately and add it to the cup afterwards, rather than risk melting the plastic for lunch. uhh
Method 3 of 3: Get Fancy
Step 1. Accept additions and seasonings
Remove the pressure from the spice pack. The first rule of the Ramen Club? Don't let anyone how to eat your Ramen Noodles. Instead of putting in those meat-flavored packages, cook your own flavored noodles and soups. With a few basic ingredients that you can find cheaply in almost any grocery store, you can customize your Ramen into a restaurant-quality meal. Try flavoring your broth with a combination of the ingredients below, once you've removed it from the microwave:
- miso paste
- Hoisin sauce
- rice vinegar
- lemon/lime juice
- Sriracha or red chili paste
- soy sauce
- honey
- leek
- basil
Step 2. Add vegetables
Adding a little spinach, chopped fresh Thai basil, or other vegetables to your ramen can add a healthy flavor and filling to your ramen. A simple way to taste your Ramen.
- Before you cook noodles, consider adding celery, carrots, garlic, and finely chopped onions to the gravy. Frozen beans are great for adding texture, as well as some other frozen vegetables in your refrigerator.
- After you cook the noodles, add green vegetables, or add other spices on top. Basil and cilantro are delicious, but why not add a few pieces of rosemary and a tablespoon of chicken flavored ramen? The result is a savory meal that smells like Thanksgiving and changes the meal completely.
Step 3. Season with egg
A common addition to Ramen is the excellent egg. While cooking eggs by dropping them into the gravy is very difficult, you can still use the microwave to cook the eggs in the broth, or simply chop a hard-boiled egg and place it on top of your Ramen noodles.
If you want to crack the eggs into the gravy to increase the thickness and flavor of your noodles, separate the noodles after cooking and crack the eggs into them. Stir vigorously with a fork or chopsticks, and return to the microwave about a minute later. The hot water should have heated the eggs, but you can microwave them again to be sure
Step 4. Make the poor man's bean noodles
Throw away the flavoring packs and make Thai-style peanut noodles from packaged Ramen, with all the stuff you probably already have in your pantry.
- In a bowl, mix 1 tablespoon full of salted peanut butter, preferably the natural kind. Into it, mix a pinch of brown sugar, a spoonful of soy sauce, and Sriracha or hot sauce for taste. If you have ginger, it would be great to add or grate it too.
- When you take the noodles out of the microwave, pour in all the hot water, reserving some to mix into the sauce mixture. Pour the noodles into the bowl of the sauce and stir vigorously. Sprinkle cilantro and carrots on top. Delicious.
Tips
- If you purchased the oriental-style package, cook as instructed, add seasonings, drain most of the water and toss with the soy sauce. Instant Lo Mein Noodles.
- Sometimes, adding flavorings after the microwave will make it harder to mix the flavors into the noodles. This can be uncomfortable. Adding seasonings before the microwave can avoid this problem.
- Microwave power will vary, so you need to set the time.
- If you work in an office with a water cooler, some have a hot side. This tool usually dispenses water with the perfect temperature for cooking cup noodles. Open the cup in half and add hot water to it (be careful with your fingers!). Cover it and let it sit for a few minutes at your desk and watch out for hungry coworkers who will smell delicious!
- You can add flavorings before starting the microwave. This will give the noodles more time to absorb the flavour.
- The spicy sauce and lemon juice make the chicken taste spicy and sour soup.
- When you're done, pat dry, add the seasonings, then add the grated cheese and microwave for another 10-30 seconds!!! So delicious!
- For a sweeter meal, cook 2 packs of noodles, draining when done. Add the spices, and cup of milk, and a spoonful of butter.
- Add a slice of lime and sriracha sauce to your chicken-flavored ramen for a delicious treat.
- Try adding half-boiled egg yolks, ground red/black pepper, mozzarella cheese and hot sauce.
- Hot sauce, ranch stuffing, and bacon bits are also great additions to your noodles.
- If you buy oriental packaging, add honey, honey will add a sweet and salty taste that you can't get from other spices.
- For more flavor, use beef or chicken bouillon diced broth (powdered versions will be quicker and better).
- Add a tablespoon of BBQ sauce to the beef or pork seasoning packet. Then mix together.
- You are free to add other flavors. A slice of American cheese can also give the cheese a tangy taste.
- To speed up the cooling process, run half the hot water and add the cold water. But don't put too much hot water or you will get cold ramen. Add a few tablespoons of creamy peanut butter and chicken seasoning to make it more creamy and flavorful.
Warning
- If you are using a small bowl, make sure you keep an eye on your noodles while cooking. The water will sometimes start to boil and spill out.
- Don't touch the bowl right after you're done cooking in the microwave.
- Give it time to cool down. The contents will be very hot
- Make sure to remove the bowl without spilling anything.
