Pubes or pubic hair can be awkward topics to talk about, but you can still learn how to deal with them. Wash with mild, unscented soap. Shave or wax your pubes. You can also just leave it alone. Finally, be aware of certain issues, such as irritation or ingrown hairs, and learn how to fix them.
Step
Part 1 of 3: Keeping the Pubes Clean and Neat
Step 1. Wash with mild soap
It's not just the hair on your head that needs washing, cleaning your pubes is equally important. When showering, use a mild, unscented soap to wash your pubes. Do it gently because a pulled pubes is very painful!
- Regular shampoo or liquid soap is too harsh for the sensitive skin down there. We recommend using bar soap without dyes and fragrances or soap specifically for the area around your genitals. Do not rub directly into the pubes, lather first on your hands.
- In addition, do not let soap enter your genitals because it can cause irritation and itching. This is important, because even the mildest soap can upset the pH balance in the vagina and cause inflammation and irritation.
Step 2. Trim your pubes
Even if you don't like removing your pubic hair, it's important to keep your pubic hair neat. The best way is to cut the pubes. Use a small nail clipper, preferably a blunt tip so that it is easy to move and not hurt yourself. Make sure these scissors are used for pubes only.
- Do not use large scissors as they are more difficult and dangerous to use. You can use ear or nose hair clippers in a pinch, but make sure you cover the blades to protect yourself. Do not never used an electric shaver with a rotating head because it was too dangerous.
- To trim the pubes, pull the hair away from the body and carefully cut it as close to the skin as possible. If you want, comb your pubic hair first and trim the hair sticking out of the gaps between the teeth of the comb. You'll have to rely on your feelings during the cutting process, but check your work in the mirror every now and then.
- Make sure you clean all the hair that has been cut. Don't leave your old pubes sitting in the bathroom (especially if someone else uses the bathroom). If possible, trim your pubes in the toilet so they can be flushed easily when you're done.
Part 2 of 3: Throwing Pubes
Step 1. Shave your pubes
Shaving is probably the most common choice for pubic removal because it is inexpensive, easy, painless, and shame-free. You'll need a gentle, unscented shaving cream or gel (men and women should use shaving cream because it's gentlest), if possible, pubescent and new razors (blunt razors are less effective and can cause irritation).
- First of all, shorten the pubes to be shaved. You can choose to shave only in the bikini/underwear area, or throw everything away without exception. We recommend using a razor blade as it is easy to use on short hair and there is little risk of irritation. Shave until the pubes are only 0.6 cm long.
- Soften the pubes with hot water in the bath or shower for 3-5 minutes before shaving. Otherwise, apply a warm compress to your pubic area. Give shaving cream to the pubes, and avoid your genitals. it's best to test a small amount of shaving cream on your skin to test for an allergic reaction.
- Pull the skin around the pubic area with your free hand. Shaving is easiest to do on a flat surface. Start shaving without applying pressure to the razor (if you have to press, the razor is too blunt). Pull the razor up (against the direction of pubic growth) for the shortest and smoothest shave. However, the downward pull minimizes the risk of irritation for people with sensitive skin as well as reduces the risk of ingrown pubes.
- After the pubes are shaved as desired, wash the pubic area thoroughly with warm water, then pat the area with a clean towel, then apply lotion to reduce the risk of irritation.
Step 2. Try a depilatory cream
Depilatory creams are a great option for people who want to leave pubes in the bikini and panties area pain-free. These creams contain strong chemicals that dissolve the hair so it can be cleaned.
- Since this chemical is very strong (as evidenced by its strong smell), this cream is not recommended to remove all your pubes as it is very irritating to the skin and can cause chemical burns. This cream should only be used to remove pubes outside the bikini/underwear area.
- Before using depilatory cream, trim the hair you want to remove. This way, you can reduce the amount of cream used. Wear old underwear that can be soiled. Use the underwear line as a guide for applying cream so that no cream gets into sensitive areas.
- Leave the cream on the bikini or panties line for the time indicated on the label. Never leave the cream beyond the stated time as it is harmful to the skin. When it's time, wipe off the cream according to the directions. Your pubes will also rinse with the cream.
Step 3. Get waxed
Waxing is an effective pubic removal method and the results can last up to 2-4 weeks. There are many types of waxing available: waxing around the bikini line, landing strips, or removing the pubes entirely with Brazilian Wax. Waxing can be done by both men and women, but it is not recommended to remove the pubes from the sensitive skin around the testicles.
- Waxing is done by applying hot, sticky wax to the pubic area that you want to remove. A piece of cloth is then placed over the wax and pulled so that the wax and your pubic hair are removed from the skin.
- With waxing, hair is pulled from the roots so that it takes longer to grow than shaving. However, the price of waxing is quite expensive so it costs a lot.
- While there are over-the-counter waxing kits, they are not recommended if you have never used one. Better to just go to a professional salon. Don't forget, waxing is painful, especially in sensitive areas. However, over time the hair that needs waxing will decrease and the pain will be much less.
Step 4. Consider electrolysis or laser hair removal
Electrolysis and laser treatment are two treatments that remove or reduce the pubes permanently. Only electrolysis is able to completely remove the pubes. Electrolysis is done by passing an electric current through the hair follicles which will scorch the hair roots and prevent them from growing back.
- The treatment is only done once (although it can take anywhere from 2-12 hours, depending on the number of hairs) and you won't have to worry about your pubes anymore. However, be aware that electrolysis is quite painful (though not as painful as waxing) and is expensive.
- Laser treatment is a treatment that is still relatively new and guarantees subtraction pubes permanently. This treatment targets the hair follicles with a laser, thereby inhibiting their growth. Laser treatment is painless and lasts only a few minutes. But the maintenance needs to be done several times
- Laser treatment is quite effective, but it doesn't guarantee that all your hair is wasted, so other methods of pubic removal are still necessary. Since this treatment targets the dark pigment in the hair, treatments on light colored hair are not very effective. Laser treatment is also expensive.
Step 5. Consider letting your pubes go
It is important to understand that pubic removal is a personal decision. While pubic baldness has become increasingly popular lately, you don't have to do it if you don't feel comfortable.
- As long as the pubic area is kept clean and tidy, there's no big reason to throw your pubes away. Most people do it just for the sake of appearance
- You should know that many men and women are still natural at heart and let their pubes grow freely. So whatever your choice, know that everything is normal!
Part 3 of 3: Dealing with Other Problems
Step 1. Relieve irritation
Irritation is part of the pubic removal process, and regardless of the method, you will experience irritation, at least initially. To reduce this problem, you can:
- Exfoliate the area with a gentle sugar scrub. This product removes dead skin cells so the skin can breathe. If you don't have a sugar scrub, just make one by mixing baking soda and water to form a paste.
- Moisturize the area with a gentle, unscented lotion. Baby lotions and oils, as well as other moisturizers containing aloe vera, are popular for lightening and soothing the skin.
- Wear loose, breathable clothing. Your skin needs air to heal, so wear clothes that allow air to flow through your pubic area. Try wearing cotton underwear and a loose skirt or trousers for a day or two before the pubic discharge.
Step 2. Treat ingrown hairs
Ingrown hairs are painful and can lead to infection if left unchecked. This problem usually appears during the hair regrowth phase after shaving or waxing. If your pubes grow inwards, treat them with the following steps:
- Take a hot shower to soften the skin around the hair and open the pores. Pat the area dry with a clean towel. Then, take the sterilized tongs, and pinch both sides of the pubes and pull them out.
- Dab a small amount of the topical astringent on the area and let it dry. Then, wear loose cotton underwear. Continue giving the astringent for the next two days until it heals.
Step 3. Paint your pubes
If your pubes are already gray, don't worry. Although not recommended, pubes can be painted at home with a kit that can be purchased at a store. However, you must follow safety measures to ensure no paint gets into your sensitive genital area.
- Choose a color that is as close as possible to the original color of your pubes. The pubes are usually darker in color than the hair on the head. So, if the painting will be done regularly, choose a darker color than usual. The root touch up kit is ideal for painting pubes as it is quite dark in color and comes with a small brush.
- Before painting, do a patch test to make sure there is no allergic reaction when painting the pubes. Then, apply petrolatum jelly, on all the sensitive parts of your genital area that you don't want to stain.
- Do the painting carefully. Follow the directions on the package, and leave the paint on for as long as it takes. Wash the paint gently and thoroughly with warm water, then use a sponge or washcloth to clean the petrolatum jelly.
Tips
- Wait for 20-30 minutes after getting up in the morning to shave. Water accumulates in the skin throughout the night so that it expands. Shaving is best done on tight skin so it's best to wait for the development to subside.
- Pubes don't have to be spruced up if you're not ready.
