When the homecoming season arrives, you can get stuck in traffic and have to spend long hours in the car. The urge to urinate is unavoidable and is sometimes felt at the wrong time. Depending on how prepared you are, there are several options for dealing with the urge to urinate during a long car trip.
Step
Method 1 of 3: Peeing in the Car
Step 1. Bring equipment to help you urinate
Before you pack your suitcase and start your car journey, buy a urinal kit. Disposable urination devices can be the best choice because they are so easy to use. If you've never used a device like this before, it can't hurt to buy a few and take them all with you. You can also pee in a bottle.
- There are several urination devices on the market, for both men and women.
- If you don't want to spend money on disposable urinals, just use items you probably already have at home. Many men use milk bottles, but these may be too large and take up space in the car.
- Some bottled beverage bottles have wide mouths which are preferred by many women
Step 2. Bring cleaning products
Since you will be using the same hand to pee and drive the car, bring a product to clean it. Hand sanitizer products, baby wipes, or paper towels that have been moistened with soapy water can be effective solutions.
- You can also buy hand sanitizer and baby wipes at major retail stores (such as Carrefour) or supermarkets. If you want to save money, buy packaging for travel.
- To make a wet paper towel, follow these steps: take a paper towel and rinse it with tap water until it's wet. Pour a few drops of liquid hand soap over it and rub until it foams. Squeeze out excess water and fold to desired size.
Step 3. Place the urinal device somewhere near you
When you're ready to start your journey, make sure the urinal device is easily accessible and ready to use when needed. Ideally, you don't have to bother looking for it first.
You can put it on the center console, in your door pocket, or in the dashboard drawer
Step 4. Stop the vehicle
When you need to urinate, park your vehicle in a safe place. On the side of the road, on the highway exit, or other places away from heavy traffic can be a good choice. For safety reasons, do not park your vehicle on the edge of a busy highway or highway. Do not use the urinal device while driving.
Step 5. Pee into the urinal device
Remove the urinal device from its storage area. Open the lid (if any). Tilt the device toward your body so that it forms a 45-degree angle with the floor. Pee into the opening of the device while making sure the urine flow is towards the bottom of the device.
If your device has a lid, make sure you close it again when you're done
Step 6. Clean yourself using the cleaning products that have been prepared
Grab a wet tissue or hand sanitizer and clean yourself up before continuing on your journey. You can dispose of the urinal device if there is a suitable disposal site nearby. If not, just keep it for a while. If you think you'll be using it again in the near future, put it somewhere near you. Or, you can set up another device if you are using a disposable one.
Do not throw the urinal device filled with urine carelessly outside the vehicle. You could be fined if you do
Step 7. Continue the journey
Now, you can drive your vehicle back to your destination with more comfortable conditions. Make sure you drink enough water. Dehydration can cause fatigue and this condition can be dangerous while driving.
Method 2 of 3: Urinating Outside the Vehicle
Step 1. Bring cleaning products
Always try to clean yourself after urinating regardless of where you are doing it.
Step 2. Stop the vehicle
When you need to urinate, park your vehicle in a safe and hidden place. Make sure your location is far enough from traffic for privacy. Location far from the main road can be a good choice. Do not stop the vehicle on the shoulder of the toll road or on the side of the highway for your safety.
Step 3. Get out of the car
After getting out of the car, look around you. Make sure no one can see what you're doing. If you see where people are, find another location. It's also important to make sure you don't urinate on someone's private property.
Step 4. Find a hidden place to urinate
If you prefer a remote location (near a wooded or bush area), walk a few steps from the car and look for a spot that is partially or completely blocked off. That way, people who happen to pass by (whether on foot or by car), can't see you.
- Standing behind a tree or bush, in the middle of tall grass, or behind a fence can be a good choice.
- After finding a suitable place, proceed to urinate safely. If you're a girl, get your pants down to your ankles and crouch behind a tree or bush.
- If you can't find a hidden spot, stand behind the open passenger door. Choose the one with your back to the road. If you're a girl, get your pants down to your ankles and crouch behind the door. Try to squat as close to the body of the car as possible for more privacy.
- If you're a girl and can't squat because of knee problems, or the area looks very dirty, you can pee standing up. Read the article How Women Pee While Standing for a reference. Keep in mind that you have to practice doing it. So, if you still have a few days before your plan to go home by car, start practicing!!
- Be careful not to get caught. You could be fined, depending on where you are. For example, urinating in Jakarta is punishable by imprisonment for 10-60 days and a minimum fine of Rp. 100,000 to Rp. 20 million.
Step 5. Tidy up your pants and get back to the car
When you're done and your pants are neat, you can walk back to the car. Leave used tissue where you pee. The tissue is biodegradable and will break down quickly. Before heading back to the main road, it's a good idea to clean your hands with the cleaning product you brought with you.
Step 6. Return to the main road
Continue your journey to your hometown. Make sure you drink enough water. Dehydration can cause fatigue and this condition can pose a risk while driving.
Method 3 of 3: Stopping in a Rest Area
Step 1. Bring cleaning products
Just in case there is no soap and water in the rest area, it's a good idea to prepare yourself. Hand sanitizer or baby wipes can be a quick and easy solution for you.
You can also buy hand sanitizer and baby wipes at major retail stores (such as Carrefour) or supermarkets. If you want to save money, buy packaging for travel
Step 2. Find the nearest rest area
When you need to urinate, look for the nearest rest area by paying attention to traffic signs that read "Rest Area". Most of these signs have been installed several kilometers before the actual location.
You can download an app on your phone that can help you find the nearest rest area. That way, as soon as you feel the urge to pee, you can open the app and find the nearest resting area
Step 3. Stop in the rest area
After finding the nearest rest area, go there and park the car in the space provided. You can relax your leg muscles, take some photos if the view is beautiful, or go straight to the toilet.
Many rest areas provide vending machines, prayer rooms, free coffee and sometimes free WiFi
Step 4. Urinate in the toilet
Whether you use a public toilet or a separate male and female toilet, all rest areas usually have a bathroom with a squat or sitting toilet option. If the bathroom is being cleaned or there is a long line, you can wait a few minutes or go to another nearby rest area.
If you're a girl: Hopefully the bathroom is clean enough and you can sit comfortably to pee. If that's not the case and the condition of the bathroom looks dirty making it impossible to sit on the toilet, you can still use it. Stand on the toilet seat and bend over the bowl
Step 5. Clean yourself
If you find soap and water in the rest area bathroom, use it. If the rest area does not provide soap and water, you can use the cleaning product you brought with you.
Step 6. Return to the main road
Continue on your way to your destination, making sure to drink enough water. Dehydration can make you drowsy while driving and that is dangerous.
Tips
- If you're a man (and don't drive), try to pee through an open car window. However, you run the risk of being caught by the authorities and may have to pay heavy fines.
- If you don't want to stop the car and park it, using adult diapers can be an alternative.
- Women squatting near cars should be careful when urinating so that urine does not get on their pants or shoes.
- For the guy who wants to pee behind the back door, follow these steps: Directing the stream of urine directly to the ground and not allowing it to form an arc will prevent the urine from hitting the headlights of an oncoming car and attracting attention.
- If you are a woman, make sure to open both passenger doors so that no one passing by will see.
- Make sure you tell the driver before the urge to urinate becomes unbearable because the car can't stop anywhere and you could pee your pants. To prevent this, make sure you can urinate before you have to hold your crotch while rocking to resist the urge to urinate.
- You can also cover yourself with a blanket when you pee in the car. However, make sure YOU can see what you're doing, while others can't.
