A completely realistic Halloween costume may not be easy to make, especially if you don't have the funds to make costumes and makeup that look real. Even if your costume isn't particularly impressive, changing your look to something more sinister might do much better than an expensive alternative. With a little time and effort, no one knows who is behind the scar.

Method 1 of 3: Using Liquid Colodion
Step 1. Prepare the materials needed
Making this simple scar does not require much preparation and can be done in a very short time. The materials needed are liquid collodion and makeup to color the scar. All of these ingredients can be found at drugstores, supermarkets, or costume shops.
Colodion is a very sticky liquid compound and is often used for special effects medicine and makeup
Step 2. Test the material
Colodion can irritate the skin so you should test it on a small area of skin before starting the process. That way, you won't have to worry about any negative reactions on your skin.
Makeup color should also be tested. Try rubbing it a little on the skin to be made up. Your natural skin tone may contrast with your makeup color, making it look unreal
Step 3. Clean the area where you want to place the "scar"
Clean skin will make it easier for makeup to blend, which creates a better seal between skin and adhesive. In preparation for scarring, you can clean the skin with baby wipes or mild soap and warm water.

If makeup is applied underneath, you will need to apply makeup first before applying liquid collodion. Allow makeup to dry completely, if necessary
Step 7. Remove the scar when finished
Before removing it, first use baby wet wipes to remove any makeup that has stuck to the scar. After that, you can peel off the scar easily with your fingers. If the fake scar is difficult to remove, you can use a fake make-up remover, such as Isopropyl Myristate or Super Solve.
Method 2 of 3: Using Gelatin to Make Scars
Step 1. Prepare all the materials needed
Besides being easy to use, gelatin can be obtained at a low price. If used properly, it can give the appearance of scars, open wounds, and burns on the skin. Some of the materials needed to make scars from gelatin include:
- Gelatin applicator (ice cream stick or makeup spatula)
- Glycerin
- Gelatin (or ready made gelatin)
- Hot water
- Make-up (to color the scar)
- Container for mixing ingredients
Step 2. Make a sketch for the scar
You must have a solid idea about the placement of the scars on the body. Gelatin is very easy to remove so you don't have to be afraid of pain when placing it in areas that have hair.
- To make the scar more artistic, make thin outlines using an eyebrow pencil.
- You can try a scar pattern in the shape of a hash mark, a jagged line, or a spooky "x" shape for your look.
Step 3. Prepare the area to be scarred
On both the face and arms, fake scars will stick best if the surface has been cleaned and is dry. Baby wet wipes are a great option. However, you can also use warm water and mild soap if you don't have baby wipes.
Step 4. Prepare the gelatin
To mix the gelatin solution, you can use a simple ratio, which is 1 part gelatin and 1 part hot water mixed in a container. However, the gelatin resulting from this ratio can dry out and shrink, which makes false scars less obvious. Many effects makeup artists recommend adding glycerin to the mixture to prevent the scar from drying out quickly.
- Add tsp. glycerin in a mixture of gelatin and water (which you have made in a 1:1 ratio).
- Stir the gelatin mixture until smooth. If not stirred, the mixture will form bubbles which will spoil the effect.
- Once the gelatin mixture is ready, you have to move quickly because the gelatin hardens quickly.
Step 5. Heat the water if you are using ready made gelatin
Put the gelatin in a container and pour water over it to heat the gelatin to a suitable temperature. Ready-made gelatin is usually sold in bottles, which must be heated to melt it. After turning into a liquid with a temperature that is safe for the skin, you can apply the gelatin on the body.
It's a good idea to test hot gelatin on another safe part of your body, such as your arm or hand, before applying large amounts of it to your body
Step 6. Apply the gelatin mixture
Use the applicator to apply the gelatin to the surface of the skin in such a way as to create the desired scar. Because it can not be formed in a long time, immediately apply gelatin to the body.
- If you want to scar large areas of your body, or if you want to create an intricate scar pattern, you'll need to prepare the gelatin in separate sections.
- While applying the gelatin is the last step in creating a scar, you can gently tap it to create a wrinkled effect.
Step 7. Color the scar to add a spooky effect
Once the gelatin scar has adhered and formed, add makeup to the scar to make it look more realistic. You can use concealer or foundation to blend the edges of the scar. If given a slightly paler color, the fake scar will look like new.
Step 8. Seal the makeup, if necessary
If you're planning to go out at night for fun, or you can't stop yourself from showing off, spray something to secure the makeup on the gelatin scar. Scratches caused by involuntary movements can make scars less convincing.
Step 9. Remove the scar when you're done
You can easily remove gelatin that is applied directly to the skin by peeling it off. If there is gelatin that is difficult to remove, use warm water and mild soap to loosen it. This is to ensure that all gelatin and makeup has been removed.
Method 3 of 3: Using Candles to Create Scars
Step 1. Prepare the materials needed
Many professionals (including theater artists) use special waxes, called nose wax or scar wax, to create a scar effect when needed. Prepare the following materials that can be found in costume shops or costume supply providers on the internet:
- Makeup (to color the scars)
- Nose wax or scar wax
- Spirit gum (wax adhesive)
- Spirit gum remover
- Wax applicator (ice cream stick, palette print, etc.)
Step 2. Clean the face
Oil, dust, and dirt on the face make the wax can't stick properly. To keep the wax to make the scar from peeling or coming off when you are doing activities, clean the area of skin that will be used as the fake scar.
Step 3. Check if you have any allergies
Make sure the ingredients used to make the fake scar don't cause you any allergies. If you have sensitive skin, test a small amount of the product on one spot on the body before using it to make a scar.
Step 4. Avoid placing the scar on moving areas of the skin

Step 6. Take a little wax at the beginning
Depending on the product you use, you can get wax of different thicknesses. However, wax for scarring is usually thick in texture, like putty. This material may be packaged in a tube, which can be squeezed to release the wax, or placed in a container, which must be scooped up with an applicator.
- Professionals usually use a small piece of wax at the start, and add more if needed.
- Since this type of wax can be very sticky, you may need to apply a little mineral oil to your fingers and applicator to make the process more efficient. You can also use Vaseline to prevent the wax from sticking to your fingers.
Step 7. Warm the candle
At room temperature, the wax is more likely to be stiff and not pliable. Candles can be made more pliable and malleable by kneading them by hand, while keeping them warm. Continue to do this until the wax is soft, but not so runny that the wax loses its ability to hold its shape.
Step 8. Make rough dimensions
Once the wax has warmed up and is ready to use, make the wax into a scar of the desired shape. Thin, elongated scars can be created by coiling wax into a thick thread. Start by smoothing all the scars on the body into a neutral line on top of the adhesive. You can give texture and depth to scars by drawing lines, using the precision tool.
Step 9. Blend the fake scar to make it look blended
Even the most convincing wax scars will look weird if you don't blend them into the surrounding skin. Liquid foundation is a great option for filling in the lines where the wax and skin meet. However, you should at least use makeup to make it look similar to your skin tone.
Step 10. Return to your normal self
Apply spirit gum remover (or another glue-removal product) on the area around the fake scar and let it sit for a while. If the scar starts to come off, you can peel it off your face. Next, wipe off any remaining residue with mild soap and warm water, or baby wipes.
