When your watch no longer shows the correct time, there must be something wrong with the item. First of all, make sure that your watch is not an automatic watch, because such watches work without using batteries. Often when the battery starts to run low, the time the watch shows will be slower than it should be. After that, the watch will stop working altogether.

Step 1. Before you start changing the battery, take some time and clean the dirt off the watch using an old toothbrush
You don't want the dirt to get to the inside of the watch. Dirt contained in the movement of the micro-sized watch movement will make it stop working.
Step 2. Turn the watch over so that the back is facing up (see Things_You.27ll_Need Things You Need)
Place a soft pad under the watch glass. A towel or rag can be used to avoid scratching the watch glass.
Step 3. Remove the back cover of the watch
On some watches, the cover will come off after being pryed using a small flat screwdriver or there are several screws securing the cover. On other brands, the cover acts like a screw. Once you've made sure that your watch cover works like a screw, you'll need to choose between buying an expensive wrench or taking your watch to a watch repair shop to have the battery replaced. Don't let your watch get crushed or damaged because you opened the back cover with the wrong tools.
- Examine the edges of the back cover of the watch. If there is a small gap along the edge, the cover will come off by prying it off. Use a watch opener if you have one, or use a dull kitchen knife or flat screwdriver if you don't have one. It is very dangerous if you slip your hand when using a sharp knife, because the knife can scratch your hand.
- If there are multiple screws, it means that the cover will come off once all the screws are removed. Remove all the screws that secure the back cover of the watch.
- If the cover has several flat slits that are evenly spaced across from each other, the cover acts like a screw.
Step 4. Carefully remove the gasket
Many watches have a rubber-like gasket around the edge of the back cover. Take care to remove this gasket and set it aside for reinstallation after the battery replacement is complete. You may find more dirt along the gasket. It is very important to clean it before reinstalling it.
Step 5. Locate the battery
The battery is a metal object shaped like a round, shiny pill. They vary in size, but are usually less than 9.5 mm in diameter and greater than 6 mm in diameter. The battery will be attached to the machine by holding it in place using a cover and screws or using a clamp.
Step 6. Remove the battery
If the battery is being held in place using a cover and screws, remove the screws using a small screwdriver. The screwdriver head used can be flat or inflated, depending on the screw head. Carefully remove the cover and screws. Remove the battery and set it aside for identification.
- Try using plastic tweezers when removing the battery from its holder. Plastic tweezers are used to prevent accidental short-circuiting, which could damage the movement of the watch.
- If the battery is being held in place using a clamp, pry the battery out from the bottom of the clamp with a small flat screwdriver.
- Look carefully which side of the battery is facing up and which side is facing the engine before removing the battery. Later, you will have to install the replacement battery in the exact same position.
Step 7. Identify the battery
Watch batteries can be identified by the numbers on the back of the battery. Generally, these numbers consist of 3 or 4 digits, such as 323 or 2037. Note that one side of the battery is marked with a large plus sign. This is the positive side of the battery.
Step 8. Purchase a replacement battery
In Indonesia, watch batteries can be purchased at watch shops, watch shops, or watch repair shops. You will need to remember the numbers on the battery (not the watch model) to buy a replacement battery. The new battery must match the old battery of your watch. Bring old batteries with you when you go to buy new batteries.
Step 9. Install a new battery
Remove the battery from its plastic wrap and wipe the battery to remove any smudges or fingerprints that stick. Attach the battery to the movement of your watch in the exact same position as the previous battery. Slide the battery into the clamps that secure it or replace the battery cover and screws.
Step 10. Check the movement of your watch
Turn the watch over and check to see if the seconds hand is moving forward or the seconds are increasing, depending on your watch type.
Step 11. Reinstall the gasket
Place the gasket on the back cover of the watch or in the slit available on the rim of the watch. Be careful that the gasket is fully in position, so that no part of the gasket is caught when the back cover is put back on.
Step 12. Replace the back cover of the watch
Be careful not to damage the gasket. The gasket will not be possible to re-install if it is damaged. (Note: to replace the case back, you may need a special tool that you can buy yourself or, if possible, rent it from a watch shop or watch repair shop. It's a good idea to ask the shop directly how much it costs you to rent. this tool.)
Step 13. Check the movement of your watch again
Tips
- Be aware that some watches will lose their water resistance once the back cover is removed and you will want to restore that capability. A watch repairman will have the appropriate equipment to perform this repair.
- If you're still worried or unsure about opening the back cover of your watch, consider taking it to a watch store or watch repair shop. Often you only need to pay a small fee for a battery replacement service or even pay no additional fees at all (other than the cost of buying the battery).
- Use a magnifying glass and sufficient lighting to prevent the loss of small parts of the watch.
- Use a piece of black paper to place the small parts of the watch. Contrasting colors will make it easier for you to see.
- Be careful when using a screwdriver. The watch case and its glass or interior may be damaged if you are not careful when prying or removing screws with a small screwdriver.
- Check carefully the price of your watch and the price of a new battery. Some types of watches are cheap, the price will be lower than the price of a new battery.
- Be careful with the watch glass part. Pressing the back cover of the watch without providing any cushion to the glass may cause it to scratch or break.
