Men's buns are a great way to style long hair. If you want to wear this hairstyle, there are several different styles you can try depending on the look you want. If you want a modern or formal look, go for the full bun style. If the sides and back of the head are shaved short, the top knot will look good. There are even men's buns that are intended for everyday casual situations. To form a man's bun, first comb the hair, then pull it back, and secure it with an elastic band or hair tie.
Step
Method 1 of 4: Making a Quick and Random Bun
Step 1. Comb your hair with your fingers and collect it behind your head
Gather as much hair as possible from the front and top of your head. Tie the hair back and collect it under the crown of the head (crown).
With this style, you can leave the hair at the back of your head loose or in a bun
Step 2. Pull half the hair into the hair tie
The hair should be folded in half and form a bun as you pull the half into the hair tie. This style looks best if you have shoulder length or shorter hair.
If you have longer hair, the ponytail will appear too loose to form a bun
Step 3. Twist and wrap the hair tie around the bun once more
With the hair still pulled halfway through it, twist and wrap the hair tie around the bun. Twice around the hair tie will tighten the bun and keep it in place. This is a good solution when you are in a hurry or need to curl your hair quickly.
Method 2 of 4: Making a Full Bun
Step 1. Allow the hair to grow until it is at least 23-41 cm long
A full man's bun uses all the hair on the head and requires more hair than other bun styles. If the length of your hair does not reach 23-41 cm, choose another bun style. Men's full bun is the type of bun that is most suitable for formal occasions.
Step 2. Pull the hair back and collect it at the crown of the head
The crown of the head is the meeting point between the back and the top of the head. Most buns will be between the crown or the center of the back of the head. Comb your hair with your fingers and gather all the hair at the desired point of the bun. This includes all the hair on the back as well as the sides of the head.
- Don't pull your hair back too tight, otherwise it will cause discomfort.
- If you don't want a random bun, use a hair comb before styling it.
Step 3. Twist the hair tie twice
Pull the hair in your hands through the hair tie, then twist the hair tie and pull the hair back through the new hole. This step will form a ponytail.
Step 4. Twist the hair tie a third time and pull the hair halfway through it
Instead of pulling all of your hair through the hair tie as above, pull only half through it. This method will form a tight bun on the head. Some of the hair will form a loop and the rest will be loosely tied.
If the bun isn't tight enough, you may have to pull your hair through the knot a third time, then pull it back in half a fourth time
Step 5. Wrap a few strands of hair around the elastic to hide them
While the bun will look neater, this step is not always necessary. Leave a few strands of hair in the initial bun and wrap them around the bun and the knot. Strengthen the extra strands by pulling them through the hair tie that has been tightened.
If your hair is too short or straight to wrap around a bun and a hair tie, you can use a strong hold spray or pomade to keep it in place
Method 3 of 4: Tying the Top Knot
Step 1. Take the hair on the top of the head
Top knots look best on short hairstyles on the sides and back of the head, but longer at the top. Comb your hair back with your fingers. Gather and hold the hair at the top of the head.
- The top knot should be in the middle of the top of the head.
- You only need 15-18 cm of hair to form this type of bun.
Step 2. Pull the hair through the hair tie
Take an elastic hair tie and pull the hair through it. The hair tie should be tied tightly to the head.
Step 3. Twist the hair tie and pull the hair through the newly formed hole
After tying your hair a second time, it should look like a ponytail or a mouse tail on top of your head.
Step 4. Twist the hair tie back and pull the hair halfway through the hole
Not pulling the hair all the way through the new hole will form a small loop at the top of your head. Once the coil is locked in place, you've managed to form a top man's bun.
Method 4 of 4: Preparing the Hair for the Bun
Step 1. Wash your hair with shampoo and use conditioner
Men's buns look best when the hair is clean. Wash your hair with shampoo as you normally would and apply conditioner afterward. This will make your hair healthier and prevent it from drying out.
- Dirty and greasy hair can make a bun look unattractive.
- If you have oily hair, you may need to wash it with shampoo and conditioner every day.
- Washing your hair with shampoo more than 3 times a week can cause it to dry out if you have naturally dry hair.
Step 2. Comb or brush your hair after bathing
Unravel all the tangled hair until it feels as smooth as possible. Untangling the tangled hair first can make a man's bun look cleaner and neater.
Step 3. Dry your hair with a towel or let it dry naturally
Pat your hair dry, instead of rubbing it with a towel. Rubbing your hair with a towel too often can make it tangle.
Step 4. Apply hair oil or leave-in conditioner to your hair
Take a penny-sized amount of leave-in conditioner or hair oil and place it on your palm. Rub the palms of your hands together and apply the moisturizer to your hair from the roots to the tips.
