To create wavy hair, you don't always have to use a flat iron or other heating device. You can even get it by simply moisturizing your hair and styling it a certain way before going to bed. This article will show you several ways to create wavy hair overnight. However, keep in mind that if your hair doesn't hold curls or waves well, you may still need to use a bit of styling product, and the results may not last very long.
Step
Method 1 of 4: Using a Bandana
Step 1. Start with slightly damp, but not damp hair
This is important. If it's too wet, your hair won't dry overnight. You can moisturize your hair by sprinkling a little water.
You can also apply a small amount of styling product such as mousse, light gel, or styling cream. Products like this will help keep your hair style longer
Step 2. Make sure your hair is untangled and parted the way you want it
Once you've put on the bandana, you won't be able to part your hair again. Also, parting your hair after it's wavy isn't a good idea as it can ruin the pattern.
Step 3. Put a light, elastic bandana on your hair, around your head
The thickness of the bandana should not exceed 2.5 cm. If you have a very wide bandana, try folding it inward. You can also make your own bandana by attaching an elastic band to your head and then tying it.
Step 4. Take a small section of hair from the front of the head
Do not pick up hair beyond a few finger widths.
Step 5. Select this part away from the face then tuck it under the bandana
Pull the section of hair up and over the bandana. Gently tuck your hair back toward your face to make room for another section of hair.
Step 6. Take another small section of hair and tie it together
Some of the hair will be added each time you wrap it around the bandana. Tie and add sections of hair like you would a French braid.
Step 7. Wrap the now thicker section of hair around the bandana
Make sure to tuck it under the bandana. Also, try not to twist your hair too tightly. If you wrap your hair too tightly, your hair will be curly instead of wavy.
Step 8. Continue all the way to the back of the head
Continue to tie and wind sections of hair around the bandana all the way to the back of your head. Stop when you're done wrapping your hair in the center of the back of your head. By then, half of your hair should be wrapped in the bandana.
Step 9. Repeat the same process on the other side
Repeat joining and twisting the hair on the other side and stopping when you get to the center of the back of your head. Chances are, there's still some hair on the back left. But that's okay, the hair in this section will be tucked into the bandana in the next step.
Step 10. Twist the remaining hair to form a rope
Take the rest of the hair that has not been tied at the back of the head. Twist the hair to form a rope. If there's room left in the bandana, you can wrap this strand of hair around the bandana. However, if there's no space left, make a bun out of twists of hair, then use bobby pins to hold it in place at the back of your head.
You should also trim the hair that comes off the bandana
Step 11. Adjust the position of the bandana if necessary
If it's too tight, the bandana will leave wrinkles on your forehead the next day. To prevent this, slide the bandana up until it reaches the hairline.
Step 12. Take off the bandana in the morning and style your hair
Start by removing the hairpin. After that, slide the bandana off your head. If the bandana is difficult to remove, you may need to untie the hair first. However, don't pull the bandana too tightly as it can damage the wavy hair pattern. Once you've successfully removed the bandana and bobby pin, use your fingers to smooth out the wavy hair.
To keep wavy hair longer, use a little hairspray or styling cream
Method 2 of 4: Using a Sock Bun
Step 1. Prepare socks that are not used
Choose socks that are still flexible or elastic. If the socks you're wearing are loose, the bun rings won't hold up. Also make sure the socks you use are clean, but not going to be reused. Your socks should be cut in this way.
Step 2. Cut the toes on the sock with scissors
You will get a tube shape with holes at both ends.
Step 3. Roll the sock into a ring
Take the part you just cut and roll the first 2.5 cm inward. Continue rolling the sock all the way to the other end. You should get a sock donut.
Step 4. Pull the hair and make a high ponytail
Try to tie a ponytail right at the top of your head. Use a hair tie to hold it in place.
If you're having trouble making a high ponytail, bend forward until the top of your head is pointing downwards. That way, your hair will hang straight down. Pull the hair together and tie it. After that, straighten your body back
Step 5. Spray a small amount of water on the braided hair until it is slightly damp
Try not to get your hair too wet as it won't dry out overnight. You don't need to spray water on the hair on top of your head.
Try a little mousse, light gel, or hair styling cream. Products like this can help maintain wavy hair longer the next day
Step 6. Tuck the tied hair into the sock ring
Pull the sock ring up to the top of the hair tie. Leave some space between the sock ring and your head.
This space between the sock ring and the head is needed so you can tuck the hair in the next step
Step 7. Twist the hair around the sock ring evenly
Flatten the hair sticking out around the sock ring so that it resembles a flower petal. Bring some of the hair through the sock ring before tucking it under.
- Make sure to smooth the hair so that the resulting wavy pattern will also be even.
- The entire end of the hair should be tucked under the sock before pressing.
- If your hair is very long, you may need to slide the sock ring slightly up to allow the hair to slide underneath.
Step 8. Roll the hair into the sock ring
Hold the sock ring with both hands and roll it down. As you roll this sock ring, your hair will go into the hole, pulled up and around the ring. Use your fingers to help guide the hair around the sock ring.
Step 9. Continue to the base of the ponytail
Continue to roll your hair around the sock ring straight up until it touches your head. During curling, keep the ponytail straight and your hair tight.
- You shouldn't need bobby pins to hold the bun. Usually, this bun is quite tight thanks to the elasticity of the sock.
- Consider putting more socks or netting over the bun. If you wear socks again, make sure to tuck them in so they cover the entire bun so that there are no dangling parts.
Step 10. Remove the sock bun in the morning and style your hair
Untie the bun in the morning and remove the sock ring. Make sure not to pull the hair too hard or the wavy pattern will stretch. Also remove the hair tie and let your hair loose naturally.
- If the result isn't what you wanted, you can try making it more wavy. You can use styling products like mousse, gel, or styling cream and then clump your hair. This method will make the hair more wavy.
- If your wavy pattern is too tight, try combing your hair with your fingers or combing it gently. This method will help smooth the wavy hair.
Method 3 of 4: Twist Hair
Step 1. Apply styling product to damp hair
Damp hair will be easier to style while helping to maintain the hairstyle. If your hair is dry, spritz some water on it. However, don't let your hair get too wet, or it won't dry out perfectly and the wavy pattern won't last long.
To keep wavy hair longer, use mousse, a light gel, or a styling cream
Step 2. Part hair as usual
Part the hair in half, on the left and right. Since you'll be styling your hair one section at a time, you can separate the two by tying one of them up.
You don't have to part your hair in the middle, you can just part it sideways to the left or right
Step 3. Take a section of hair and start twisting it away from your face
Keep twisting your hair all the way to the ends. The result is a twist of hair resembling a rope.
Step 4. Keep the twisted hair position on the head
Use a thin elastic hair tie at the end of the twist. Pull the strands of hair up around your head like a bandana. Place the end of the twist at the top of your head, just above your forehead. Pin a bobby pin to hold it together with the rest of your hair. Try to pin the hair clips in the shape of an X because it can maintain the hair optimally.
You can also shape your hair into 1 or more buns at the nape of your neck. This method may be easier if your hair is thick and heavy
Step 5. Repeat the above steps for the other sections
If you previously separated your hair by tying it, untie it first. Twist your hair away from your head to form a rope. After that, pull the strands over your head and secure them to the rest of your hair with bobby pins. Try to place it directly in front of or behind the first strand of hair.
Step 6. Pin the bobby pin again if necessary
If your hair is thick and heavy, you may need to attach the bobby pins again to maintain the twist. Pin 2 or 3 more bobby pins on either side of your head, but there's no need to add any more bobby pins to the top of your head.
Step 7. Wait until the morning to untie the hair
Remove the bobby pins and untangle your hair. Use your fingers to comb and separate the wavy hair. If necessary, use a little hairspray or styling cream to make the results last longer.
Method 4 of 4: Making a Mini Bun
Step 1. Apply the product to damp hair
Make sure your hair isn't too wet as it won't be completely dry the next day. Use a small amount of mousse, light gel, or styling cream. This product will help maintain wavy hair longer.
Step 2. Part your hair into at least 3 sections and tie them
Start by parting your hair and making a ponytail in the middle of your head. Use a hair tie to hold it in place. After that, part the lower part of the hair into 2 and tie it on the left and right of the head. Use a hair tie to hold them together. The hair tie will be removed in the next step. Currently, hair tie serves to separate the hair.
You can split your hair into several more sections. For example, part your hair into 2 sections on top and 2 sections below your head. The more partings you make, the more wavy and curly the result will be
Step 3. Remove the hair tie from the tie on top of the head and twist the hair to form a rope
Keep twisting your hair all the way to the ends.
Step 4. Roll the strands into a bun and pin the bobby pins to hold them in place
Continue to gently twist your hair until it curls and forms a bun. Twist your hair into a natural curl and form a small bun. Pin hairpins to hold them in position. You may also need to add a hair tie to help maintain the bun.
Step 5. Repeat on the 2 sections of hair under the head
Twist sections of hair one by one. Remove the hair tie on the left side of the head and twist the hair in that section until it resembles a rope and then roll it into a bun. Pin the bobby pin before moving on to the other side.
Step 6. Remove the bun in the morning
Go to bed after putting your hair in a bun and untying it and pinning it in the morning. Gradually remove the bun and curls while running your fingers through the hair to create a natural look.
You can also use a little gel, mousse, or hairspray to keep your wavy hair longer, if necessary
Tips
- Consider using a small amount of styling product before twisting or braiding. This product will help maintain wavy hair longer the next day.
- For quick wavy hair, simply part your hair in the middle and then braid it. Make sure your hair is damp before trying this method.
