Denim pants or jeans that are often sold are dry denim types, meaning that the tarnish effect will occur naturally due to regular use. If you've recently gained weight or feel that your favorite jeans have shrunk after washing and drying, there are several ways to stretch them up to 1 inch (2.54 cm) in length or width. It doesn't have to be both, just adjust which part you want to stretch.
Step
Method 1 of 3: Spray and pull
Step 1. Select the part of the pants you want to stretch
Usually in the buttocks, thighs, and hips that feel the tightest. You can also make the pants longer by tugging at the legs.
- If you want to stretch your waist or hips, choose the belt area or slightly lower, depending on which part feels tightest.
- If you want to make your jeans longer, stretch your knees all the way down. Choose a part that is not too often exposed to friction of the limbs when moving so as not to tear. The area near the calf or ankle is a great area to stretch.
Step 2. Measure your jeans
Use a clothing tape measure and measure the length and width. Measure exactly where you want to stretch so you can see how your jeans change afterward.
Step 3. Spray water
Use warm water and spray enough water on the area you want to stretch. Make sure both sides -inside and outside- are wet.
Step 4. Step on your genie
Place the pants on the floor. If you want to stretch the waist, step on one of the pockets with both feet and while stretching. If you want to make the jeans longer, step on the dry part above the knee.
Step 5. Stretch the jeans
With both feet on the opposite side of the pants you want to stretch. Gently pull on your jeans, repeat 10 times on both sides.
- If you stretch the waist, don't button the pants so they don't tear easily.
- Do not pull on the pockets or belt area. Both parts tear more easily than the others.
Step 6. Re-measure your jeans
See if the size increases by at least 2.54 cm the way you want. If nothing changes, try another method.
Method 2 of 3: Use warm water before stretching
Step 1. Put on your jeans
Step 2. Soak in warm water
Step 3. Make sure the warm water is well absorbed throughout the pants
After 15 minutes, you can feel the jeans are a little looser.
Step 4. Pull on your jeans
While still in the bath, pull where you want to stretch, such as the waist or the reseting area. Gently stretch for about 10 minutes.
Step 5. Drain the water and let it sit for a while
This is so that the blue water droplets do not contaminate the entire bathroom floor.
Step 6. Do some movement
Place a towel on the floor and perform movements such as squats and other movements that use your feet. You can also try some yoga positions.
Step 7. Relax while waiting for the jeans to dry
Lying on a towel while reading a book, or going to the yard to help the wind dry the process. Wait about 30 minutes to dry and your jeans are now more comfortable to wear and not too tight.
Step 8. Remove jeans and dry
Do not use a tumble dryer, as this will shrink the jeans again.
Step 9. Try your jeans again when they are completely dry
Repeat small movements that focus on the legs such as squats, do for 5 minutes. Now your jeans will feel looser than before.
- You will need to repeat these steps several times during usage. As you wear them, your jeans will achieve the ideal comfort.
- Next, wash your jeans manually and dry them in the sun so they don't shrink anymore.
Method 3 of 3: Wear, spray and stretch
Step 1. Put on your jeans
Mirror, and see which part you want to stretch.
Step 2. Spray the area with warm water
Easier to do while looking in the mirror.
Step 3. Try sitting down
Or other activities such as squats. Do a few ways that require some movement and stretching in some parts of the pants.
Step 4. Once dry, stretch it by pulling it horizontally or vertically as needed
Step 5. Put something inside the jeans while stretching, for example a drink bottle. Leave it for a few days and allow the stretching process to complete
Tips
- If you don't have much time to stretch the jeans by getting wet, move your body such as squatting or bending your legs about 5 minutes before doing your activities with the jeans.
- If you have trouble pulling your jeans above your thighs, you won't be able to stretch them to a comfortable size. Stretching can be done if there is at least 2.54 cm of extra space.
Warning
- Avoid pulling the belt. These parts are usually easily torn.
- Don't put wet jeans on a light-colored towel or carpet. The blue color of the jeans pad fades easily.
