Appearance looks neat and elegant if you wear long hair bun using a sock roll. The bun is shaped like a donut because the hair is rolled up in a sock that is cut into a tube. The bun gets bigger and denser so it looks more attractive because there is a sock roll inside. It's really hard to make a bun like this if you don't use sock rolls and hair clips. Instead of styling your hair in a conch shell bun, this practical and classy bun leaves people in awe and wonder how you did it!
Step
Part 1 of 3: Making a Donut Shaped Sock Roll
Step 1. Find or buy socks that are the same color as your hair color
Although the socks will be hidden after the hair is done in a bun, it's better to use socks that are the same color as your hair color just in case the socks are visible.
- If you don't have socks that match your hair color and want to try this hairstyle, prepare socks that match your hair color. For example, if you have blonde hair, choose light brown or cream socks. If your hair color is dark brown, wear black or dark blue socks.
- Remember that the socks will be cut off and can no longer be worn. Make sure you wear worn socks.
- In addition to socks, you can buy donut-shaped accessories to hold your hair in the same way as socks. If it is already there, continue reading the next step.
Step 2. Mark the sock 3 cm from the tip of the toe
Measure the sock with a ruler 3 cm from the tip of the toe, then draw a straight line. In order for the sock to roll up, you need to cut the sock along this line.
Step 3. Cut the socks
Use sharp scissors to cut the sock 3 cm from the tip of the toe. If the results are not neat, that's okay because the socks will be covered with hair. Discard small pieces of freshly cut socks.
Step 4. Roll the sock into a donut shape
Grasp the top edge of the sock, then roll it toward the sole of the foot as if rolling up the leg of a pair of jeans. Continue to roll the sock until it looks like a donut.
Insert your fingers into the sock, but keep your thumbs out. Then, use your thumbs to roll the sock repeatedly towards the soles of your feet until you get a donut-shaped hair accessory that's 2-3 cm thick
Part 2 of 3: Combing and Styling Hair
Step 1. Trim your hair with a comb or hair brush
The bun makes the appearance look elegant. So, hair must be trimmed so that it is free of tangles before bun. Use a comb or hair brush to smooth the hair by combing it down a little at a time starting from the ends of the hair to the roots of the hair.
If the comb gets stuck in the hair, do not pull it out because the hair may break. Instead, use your fingers to untangle the tangled hair. If your hair is in a knot, but not tangled, use a comb to brush the hair just below the knot, then gently brush through the hair to keep it tangle free
Step 2. Spray a little sea salt spray for textured hair
A sock-rolled bun lasts longer if the hair was washed a day or two ago because freshly washed hair is usually slippery. If you're new to shampooing, spritz on some sea salt spray to give your hair a texture so it's easier to curl and the bun lasts longer.
If you haven't washed your hair when you're in a bun, just skip this step
Step 3. Gather your hair with both hands so you can put it in a ponytail
Use both hands to gather the hair above your head and position the bun as desired. Many people like a bun on the top of the head because it looks very elegant. Hold the hair you want to braid with your non-dominant hand.
- Try making a pigtail at the top of your head with your head down toward the floor if you feel comfortable.
- After the hair is tied, the position of the pigtail will be the center point of the bun. Keep this in mind when determining the high and low position of the bun.
Step 4. Comb the hair for a neater look
While holding the hair you want to braid, comb the hair starting from the roots of the hair towards the palms of the hands. This step is useful for tidying the hair that sticks out so that you look sleek.
Step 5. Tie your hair with a hair band
Hold the hair you want to braid with your non-dominant hand, then tie it with a hair band using your dominant hand. Make sure you tie your hair tight enough by looping the hair band a few times to keep the bun from changing.
Step 6. Trim or lighten the hair on the crown of the head
If needed, you can style your hair on top of your head which is in front of the pigtail. If you want to hide the sticking out of your hair, apply a little gel or mousse, then brush your hair into a ponytail. To give your hair a voluminous look, tuck the pointed end of the comb through the hair at the top of your head near the ponytail, then slowly pull your hair upwards.
Part 3 of 3: Using Socks for Stuffing
Step 1. Tie a pigtail using a sock roll in the shape of a donut
Grasp the lower end of the pigtail with your non-dominant hand. Hold the sock roll with the other hand, then insert the bottom end of the pigtail 5-6 cm long.
You should curl pigtails while looking in the mirror
Step 2. Wrap the ends of your hair in a sock roll
Grasp the ends of the hair emerging from the center of the sock roll, bend the hair upwards, then thread the ends of the hair into the holes to wrap around the sock. Hold the end of the hair that is emerging from the middle of the sock roll again, then thread it back into the hole so that the end of the hair does not come off.
Step 3. Roll the sock roll through the hair
Hold the sock with both hands facing each other. Place your thumb on the bottom and the other four fingers on top near the pigtail.
- Roll the sock roll along the pigtail while pressing your fingers so that the hair wraps around the sock little by little to the top of your head.
- At this point, you can simply twist the sock roll up through the pigtail so that the hair is in a donut shape because it is wrapped around the sock. The more hair that wraps around the sock, the closer the bun will be to the top of your head.
- If any hair separates from the pigtail, pause to join the hair in the pigtail or tuck the hair into the center of the sock roll while twisting it so that it blends into the bun.
Step 4. Tuck in the loose hair
The bun is almost done! While looking in the mirror, check for loose hair. If so, tuck your hair under the bun.
Step 5. Use a few bobby pins to make sure the bun stays neat, then spritz some hair spray
To make the bun last longer, secure the underside of the bun with a few bobby pins. Spray a little hair spray or sea salt spray on the bun because long hair is heavier than short hair so it slides down easily.
When you're done bun, tie the pigtail again with a hair elastic so the bun doesn't slide down or fall apart so it stays neat all day long
Tips
- If your hair is very long, trim the toes of the socks longer or use short socks so that the sock rolls are not too thick and the bun is not too big.
- If you don't want to wear socks, buy a donut-shaped elastic band to hold your hair in, which comes in a variety of colors and sizes.
