Dolls from various times and countries are known for their exaggerated facial features and smooth skin. Create the same effect for a costume or just for fun by using simple makeup on the face to mimic a doll-like appearance.
Step
Method 1 of 3: Make Up Like a Doll
Step 1. Apply foundation
Use your fingers, sponge, or brush to apply the liquid foundation evenly in circular motions all over your face.
- Use a foundation that matches your skin tone or is a shade lighter.
- Feel free to apply a slightly thicker foundation than usual, as the doll's appearance accentuates a porcelain or plastic face unlike natural skin.
- Use a smudge mask on blemishes, red spots, or dark circles under your eyes to make your face color evenly even.
Step 2. Cover with loose powder
Cover the foundation with a transparent loose powder or a color that matches your skin tone and foundation.
- Use a wide powder brush or sponge to gently press the powder onto your face.
- Try loose powder that has a shimmer for a shiny, plastic or porcelain doll-like appearance.
Step 3. Apply blush on the cheeks
Apply pink or yellowish-pink blush to the bottom of the cheeks using a blush brush or fingers.
- Use a bold blush or with a clear circle shape, for a more dramatic doll look.
- Add highlighter (cosmetic to highlight the face) on the upper outer edge of the cheekbones to make them appear rounder and fuller.
Method 2 of 3: Eye Makeup Like a Doll
Step 1. Add dark eye shadow on the outer corner of the eye
Apply neutral eye shadow that is darker than skin tone on the outer corner of the eye, forming a V that extends into the crease of the upper eyelid and along the lower lid under the lashes.
- Dark eye shadow should not pass through the middle of the upper and lower eyes.
- Leave a small gap between the lower lash line and the area where you apply the dark eye shadow to make your eyes look bigger.
Step 2. Blend the eyeshadow with a lighter shade
Use a lighter shade than the eyeshadow for the outer corner of the eye for use on the upper eyelid.
- Blend the two shades of eyeshadow with a small, soft brush.
- Add a lighter white or cream color to the inner corner of the eye and under the eyebrows to make the eyes appear open.
Step 3. Line the eyes with the eyeshadow
Line the eye on the upper eyelid with an eye shadow pencil or a brown or black liquid eyeshadow.
- Draw a thinner or subtle eye line towards the center of the eye and not as wide as the outer corner of the eye if you want your eyes to appear rounder like doll eyes.
- Do not line the lower lashes or draw a thin line from the center to the outer corner of the eye.
- Use a white eye shadow pencil on the waterline (the wet inner part between the lower lashes and the eyeball) on the inner and outer corners of the eye for a bigger eye effect.
Step 4. Apply mascara and false eyelashes
Apply thick mascara on the upper and lower lashes. Press false lashes as close to your natural lash line as possible if you want more dramatic, fuller lashes.
- Look for false eyelashes for the lower eyelid to add length and volume. You need to use false eyelashes that can be applied individually or in small sections.
- Make sure any false eyelashes you use have extra length and volume on the outer edge of the eye to accentuate the round shape and size of the eye.
Step 5. Make the lashes really long if you want
Use eye shadow or dark eyeshadow with a very thin brush to create excessively long eyelashes on the upper and/or lower eyelids.
- Use the natural curve and direction of the lashes to guide you to draw a line that is longer than the lash line. Again, try to make a longer line towards the outside of the eye to accentuate the size of the eye.
- Use this method in addition to false eyelashes or if you are unable to use false eyelashes to produce the appearance of very long eyelashes and an artificially exaggerated look that mimics doll eyelashes.
Step 6. Fill in the eyebrows with a light color
Use an eyebrow pencil or eyeshadow in the same color as your natural eyebrows to fill in and define the shape of your eyebrows.
- Use small, light movements to create a more natural “eyebrow hair” to fill in the brows.
- If you want, you can also draw the protruding edges of the eyebrows to create the perfect curve or arc of the doll's eyebrows.
Step 7. Wear large colored contact lenses
Use cosmetic contact lenses to make the eyeballs and eyeball membranes look bigger and/or more colorful.
- Try wearing blue contact lenses for the popular doll's eye color which will also make the eyes appear larger due to the light color.
- You don't need to wear cosmetic contact lenses if you already wear prescription contact lenses or if they irritate your eyes.
Method 3 of 3: Makeup Lips Like a Doll
Step 1. Make a heart shape with a lip pencil
Use a pink, yellowish-pink, or red lip pencil to outline the lips, to create a large heart shape by creating two rounded curves on the upper lip.
- To create a large heart shape, try covering the outer corners of your lips with the same foundation or loose powder you used for your face, effectively making the corners of your lips appear "disappeared".
- Feel free to draw outside the natural lip line to change the shape a bit or make the lips a little bigger.
Step 2. Color the lips
Color your lips with lipstick or lip pencil in the same color as the lip pencil you used.
Add a little highlight in the center of the lower lip using eyeshadow or a light colored highlighter pencil to create the illusion of shimmer
Step 3. Coat with lip gloss
Create a glossy finish like doll lips using a color with a very glossy lip gloss.
- Use a transparent lip gloss or one that is the same color as the lipstick.
- Make sure to reapply the highlighter if you have already applied it on your lower lip or don't cover it up with a transparent lip gloss that doesn't smudge the color.
