Teaching your dog new tricks can be fun for you and your pet. Dogs are able to learn a variety of tricks, one of which is the trick to crawl. Before you start teaching your dog to crawl, know what to look out for. Thus, the dog will learn quickly and effectively.
Step
Part 1 of 3: Organizing Preparations
Step 1. Prepare some snacks
A big part of training a dog is rewarding treats for good behavior. This will send a positive message to the dog that you want a certain behavior and should do it again at a later time. Always make sure healthy snacks are available when training your dog.
- Don't give too many treats.
- The size of the snack should only be the size of a pea.
- Snacks should only be given to dogs when doing something you want.
- Dogs can eat lots of healthy treats. Try giving it chunks of carrots, sweet potatoes, or apples.
Step 2. Keep the room quiet
Dogs can learn new tricks when trained in a quiet, distraction-free location. If there are too many distractions, the dog may lose attention. Always make sure the training location is quiet so the dog can focus 100%.
- For example, stay away from crowded public parks. Try to find a quiet place where your dog can focus.
- A familiar environment for dogs is better than a new environment.
Step 3. Don't force anything
Like humans, dogs can also get stressed if they feel like they're not doing something right or doing too much of the same thing over and over again. Whenever you train your dog, avoid sessions that are too long or force your dog to learn too fast. If your dog seems to have a hard time learning a new trick, take a break and try again later.
- Rest is more effective than forcing exercise.
- If you feel your dog is losing interest, end the session for the day.
Part 2 of 3: Teaching the Commandment to Lie down
Step 1. Attach the leashes
Training your dog on a leash can help you stay focused and in control. Before starting to teach your dog how to lie down, make sure the leashes are properly attached. here are some tips for wearing necklaces safely and firmly:
- The collar should be around the dog's neck, where the neck meets the chest.
- Tighten the necklace until you can slip two fingers through the necklace.
- Necklaces should not be attached too tight or too loose.
Step 2. Take a position
The first step in teaching the dog the command to lie down is to stand near the dog in a certain way. You need to have the dog sit and stand to the right of the dog. Hands should be able to grab the leashes from standing. This position allows you to have the best control over your dog while teaching him to lie down
- Prepare snacks to give. The snack will be the focus of the dog to lie down.
- Place the treat in your right hand and put your left hand on the leashes.
Step 3. Use the “down” command
Once you're in a position, start teaching your dog the verbal "down" command. Stand next to the dog, holding the treat in your right hand. if the dog notices it, lower the treat to the floor. Say the command "down" to the dog so that it is associated with movement and treats.
If the dog is struggling, please gently press the dog down with the left hand to start the movement
Step 4. Reward the dog
The key to successful training is to be well rewarded if the dog performs the lying trick correctly. As soon as your dog responds and lies down, give him a treat followed by a compliment. Dogs will associate movement with rewards and over time also respond to verbal "down" commands.
You can also use a clicker. Click whenever you give a treat so the dog associates the sound with the trick
Step 5. Repeat
God can because it's normal. Continue to practice so that the command to lie down is easy and natural for the dog. The more you practice, the easier it will be for your dog to understand what you want and how to do the lying trick.
- In the early stages, try to exercise at least once a day.
- It's also good to practice several times a day.
Part 3 of 3: Teaching the Crawl Command
Step 1. Tell the dog to lie down
The first step to teaching a dog crawling tricks is to tell him to lie down. This way, the dog is ready to get into position and focus on the new trick being learned. If your dog doesn't know the lying down trick, teach it first before teaching the crawling trick.
Prepare treats in exchange for helping your dog focus
Step 2. Use the “crawl” command
When you're already lying down, take a few steps in front of the dog. Squat down and show the dog a treat. Keep the treat near the floor and say "crawl". The dog will start crawling on the floor and try to take treats from you. Immediately reward if the dog crawls correctly.
- The dog will probably stand up and walk past you. If so, repeat from a lying position.
- It's best if you're only a few steps away from the dog when you're just starting out. If it's too far away, the dog may get confused.
- Make sure the dog crawls properly before giving the reward. Dogs will repeat any behavior that is rewarded.
Step 3. Add distance
If your dog begins to understand the meaning of the “crawl” command, feel free to start increasing your dog's crawling distance. Train gradually, adding one step at a time to train the dog. This will increase the crawling distance the dog can do and improve the overall trick.
- Always increase the dog's crawl distance slowly.
- Do the exercise twice a day.
Tips
- Always provide treats for your dog's good behavior.
- Find a quiet location to train your dog.
- In the early stages, don't train your dog to crawl too far. Dogs will only crawl a few steps.
- Teach the command “lie down” before teaching how to “crawl”
