Showing off tongue tricks is a fun way to act in front of friends. Some tricks are relatively easy to master, while others require greater muscle control. You can master some cool tongue tricks with a little guidance.

Part 1 of 2: Learn Simple Tongue Tricks
Step 1. Roll the tongue into a tube
Rolling the tongue into a tube is one of the most common tongue tricks. To do this, roll the outer edge of the tongue and around it so that the tongue edges touch each other. Stick your tongue out to keep the shape of the tube.
- Push the edge of the tongue up from the bottom with your fingers to bring the two sides together. Make an “O” shape using your lips and hold your tongue in between. Do this step until the tongue can be rolled up without the help of your fingers.
- Another way to form a tube from the tongue is to pull the center of the tongue muscle. This method will raise the side of the tongue up. Try pinching the two edges of your tongue with the sides of the roof of your mouth. Then, push your tongue out through your mouth while maintaining its shape.
- This tongue trick is also known as a taco-making trick, tongue roll, or loop.
- 65-81% of people can roll their tongue; women tend to be more adept at it than men. Recent research is starting to dispel the myth that tongue rolling is a genetic trait. Several studies of children have shown that tongue rolling can be learned.
Step 2. Pull the tongue down and flip
Basically, the tongue is folded in half for this trick. Start by placing the tip of your tongue behind your teeth. Push your tongue forward, but keep the tip behind your teeth. The tongue will be folded in half.
Open your mouth wider while doing this trick. With that, you can see the tongue that has been folded
Step 3. Turn the tongue to 180 degrees
Twist your tongue in your mouth. Rotate your tongue clockwise or counterclockwise, whichever is comfortable for you. Press the tongue against the lower teeth while the upper teeth press against the flat part. Push the tip of the tongue out of the lips. The underside of the tongue will be visible.
Use your fingers to help your tongue do this trick. Hold the tongue and turn it over. Hold your tongue in that position. Release, and try to hold the tongue in that position without any assistance
Step 4. Touch your nose with your tongue
This trick may be quite difficult to do, depending on the length of the tongue and nose. Start by sticking your tongue out of your mouth. Point the tip of the tongue up. Extend your tongue towards your nose as far as possible.
- For some people, pulling the upper lip over the teeth will help. For some, stretching the upper lip as close to the top of the teeth as possible, near the gum line, can help with this trick. This step is done so that the tongue does not need to stretch too far.
- Try flattening your tongue while stretching it upwards. This will result in a better stretch than sticking your tongue out.
- While trying to stretch your tongue to touch your nose, use your fingers to point it toward your nose.
Step 5. Learn the spoon trick
This simple trick only requires you to make an indentation with your tongue. Start with the tongue in a flat position and the mouth open. Pull the center of the tongue down while the edges curve up. Bend the tip of the tongue inward. This will result in a tongue with rounded edges that looks like a spoon.
- The tongue will be outside the mouth when this trick is done. The bottom of the tongue will press the bottom lip.
- First, try rolling your tongue if you're having trouble getting a round shape. Then lift the tip of the tongue. Or try using your fingers to make an indentation in the center of your tongue.
Step 6. Make a starship
This simple trick relies on the position of the lips. Cover the upper and lower teeth with your lips. Press your tongue as flat as possible with the roof of your mouth. Make sure the edge of the tongue can be seen through the lips. The starship trick is created with the rounded edges of the tongue and a thin line of skin underneath.
- If you're having trouble getting the shape right, position your tongue against the roof of your mouth before moving your lips.
- Use your fingers to help push your tongue into the proper position if you can't press it against the roof of your mouth.
Part 2 of 2: Learn Advanced Tongue Tricks
Step 1. Make a clover leaf shape
The clover leaf trick is in the form of a tongue roll. Roll your tongue into a tube. Then, pull the tip of the tongue back. Push the bottom of your tongue against your lower lip while pulling it back.
- Lips must be stretched wide to complete this trick. Lower your lips slightly to get enough pressure to press them back down. This step also gives you enough room to see the tongue.
- Use your fingers while learning this trick. Roll your tongue into a tube. Place your finger about 1 cm below the tongue. Pinch the tip of the tongue until it comes together. This method helps the tongue learn the clover leaf formation.
Step 2. Try the split tongue trick
This trick gives the illusion of two separate tongue tips. Start with the tongue flat and slightly sticking out of the lips. Tuck your tongue into your mouth and position the tip behind your teeth. Pull the center of the tongue down so that the edges come up. Close your lips around your tongue so that only two sides of your tongue are visible.
- Use your fingers to push the center of the tongue if it continues to rise and become visible. The trick is to only see two sides of the tongue.
- This trick can also be done by rolling the tongue. Roll your tongue into a tube. Push the edge of the tongue closest to the lips through it. The shape of the roll helps keep the rest of the tongue out of sight.
Step 3. Learn the reverse T trick
This trick is done with some of the same moves as the clover leaf trick. Start with the tip of your tongue behind your lower teeth. Push the middle of the tongue down while continuing to push it forward. This will result in a crease in your tongue just above your teeth. Pair it with the center line of the tongue, the crease will result in an inverted T-shape.
