This wikiHow teaches you how to permanently delete an Amazon account. You cannot perform deletions via the Amazon mobile app.
Step
Step 1. Visit the Amazon website
If you are already signed in to your account, you will be taken directly to the Amazon main page.
If you are not logged into your account, hover over the option “ Accounts & Lists ", click " Sign in ”, enter the account email address and password, and click “ Sign in ”.
Step 2. Make sure you don't have any pending orders or transactions
If you need to ship or receive goods, you will need to wait for the transaction to complete before closing your Amazon account.
You can cancel a pending order by clicking on the option “ Orders ” in the upper right corner of the Amazon homepage, click “ Open Orders ” at the top of the page, select “ Cancel items ” on the right side of the order, and clicking on the option “ Cancel selected items ” at the far right of the screen.
Step 3. Click Help
It's in the lower-right corner of the page, in the “ Let Us Help You ”.
Step 4. Click Need More Help?. It's at the bottom of the "Browse Help Topics" section of the page.
Step 5. Click Contact Us
It's in the upper-right corner of the "Browse Help Topics" section.
Step 6. Click Prime or Something Else
It's in the upper-right corner of the "What can we help you with?" section of the "Contact Us" page.
Step 7. Click the button
This box appears towards the end of the page, under the "Tell us more about your issue" heading. Once clicked, a drop-down menu will appear.
Step 8. Click Login and Security
It's at the top of the menu.
Step 9. Click the second column
This column is below the first column. Once clicked, a drop-down menu will appear.
Step 10. Click Close my account
Once clicked, a third segment will appear below this column with the following contact options:
- Phone
- Chat
Step 11. Click the contact option
The next steps will be different, depending on the option you selected:
- “ E-mail ” – Type in the reason for deleting the account, then click the Send E-mail button below the email field.
- “ Phone ” – Type a phone number into the field next to the "Your number" heading, then click Call me now.
- “ Chat ” – Wait for the customer service representative to log on to the network, then tell them the reason for closing your account.
Step 12. Wait for the account to be deleted
The account will be deleted within the timeframe provided by the Amazon representative serving you.
Tips
- After deleting an existing Amazon account, you can create a new account using the same account information.
- Check the bank account information linked to the Amazon account before closing the account. After the account is closed, the pending charge will be sent to your address/bank account as long as the account information is valid/correct.
- If you are a Kindle publisher, download and save Kindle content before closing your account. You cannot access these contents after the account is deleted.
Warning
- You cannot delete an Amazon account through the account settings menu (“Account Settings”).
- Once an account is deleted, it can no longer be accessed by you or any party affiliated with Amazon, such as Amazon Sellers, Amazon Associates, Amazon Payments, and others. If you want to use Amazon sometime after deleting your account, you will need to create a new account.
