Arranging balloons into flowers is a very simple but creative way to decorate a children's party or afternoon tea with a garden theme. Or maybe you're just looking to find a way to brighten up your best friend's day with a little gift –– some balloon flowers are sure to make him smile! If you want to know how to make flowers out of balloons that are guaranteed to be the center of attention at your party, follow the steps below.

Method 1 of 2: Prepare the Balloons
Step 1. Cut out circular holes in thick cardboard
Make one circular hole 15 cm in diameter and another 10 cm in diameter. Don't worry – these circles don't need to be cut out nicely and the thick cardboard doesn't have to be great either. You will be using this cardboard and holes as a pattern, not part of the decor.
Step 2. Blow five balloons to make flower petals
You can choose balloons that are the same color to look like the petals of a single flower. After blowing each balloon, hold its mouth, and insert it into the 15 cm cardboard hole that was made earlier. If it's too big or too small, blow again or deflate until it's the right size. Tie the mouth of the balloon when it is the right size.
Step 3. Blow up the smaller balloons to create the center of the flower
The color of the balloon should be different from the petal balloon so that it stands out in the center of the flower. After blowing each balloon, insert it into a cardboard hole with a diameter of 10 cm. If it's too big or too small, blow again or deflate until it's the right size. Tie the mouth of the balloon when it is the right size.
Method 2 of 2: Making Flowers from Balloons
Step 1. Tie two petal balloons together
The balloons should face the opposite direction when tied. You can use thin craft wire to tie it together, twisting the ends a few times. Be careful, the wire can puncture the balloon. If you're worried about using wire, use regular rope, but the bond may be a bit weaker.
Step 2. Tie three flower petal balloons together
The balloons should be equidistant when tied, forming a "Y" shape. Use the same material used to tie the first two petal balloons. Hold the mouths of the three balloons with one hand, and tie the other hand with a wire.
Step 3. Tie two groups of flower petal balloons together
Tie the first and third groups together. The balloons should point outward, so the mouth or tip is tied in the middle. The balloons may be unstable at the moment, but they will be more stable once you attach the center.
Step 4. Tie the two center balloons of the flower together
Tie two small balloons with wire or string. The balloon should be facing the other way when you tie the mouths together.
Step 5. Tie the two small balloons around the mouth of the petal balloon
Take the two middle balloons and twist them around the petals. To do this, slowly place the mouth of the center balloon next to the mouth of the petal balloon and move around, until one small balloon is at the front, one at the back, in the center of the petal.
Having the center of the flower on both sides will produce a 3-dimensional effect on the flower
Step 6. Display your flower balloons
Once the flower balloons are finished, you can place them on the floor, hang them with ribbon, or add flower stalks.
Tips
- In addition to ribbons, you can buy long sticks that you can turn into flower stalks by painting them green. If you want to use these stems, buy some tape as well so you can glue the flower balloons to the stems.
- If you plan to hang balloons outside for a party, wait until close to when the party starts to make flowers, so that the balloons don't shrink (latex balloons have a limited bloom time).
- Decorate the edge of the path with these pretty balloons by sticking their stems into the ground (forming a flower fence).
