Homemade foam flowers are perfect for party decorations. Making it easy, it's a fun craft to do with the kids. Craft shops and retail stores have all the supplies you need to make these colorful creations. Read on to learn how to make lilies, violets, and chrysanthemums from foam.
Step
Method 1 of 3: Lily
Step 1. Cut a circle from a sheet of foam
This part will be the part that blooms from the lily. The diameter of the circle can be made large or small depending on your wishes.
Step 2. Fold the circle in the middle
Make sure you fold it neatly, so that the shape of the lily will be correct.
Step 3. Reshape the circle so that it forms a circular heart
Start by placing the scissors at the bottom of the folded foam. Cut along the edge of the circle, then cut along the top to create a bent corner. When you unfold the circle, it will look like a round heart, with two soft humps at the top; while the bottom of the heart should remain round.
-
The classic heart shape has a slightly sharp bottom edge, but make sure that this time you make the tip slightly circular.
-
Don't let the humps be too sharp; You have to make it smooth.
Step 4. Slice a small part between the humps
This will make it easier for the foam to form into the tubular shape that the blooming lily produces.
Step 5. Cut the yellow pipe cleaner in half, then fold it into two equal parts
Twist both ends. These will become lily pollen threads, which stick out from the center of the blooming flower like a real flower.
Step 6. Stick the pipe cleaner in the gap between the two humps
Use hot glue between the humps at the top of the slice, and place the folded pipe cleaner over it so that the folded end is pointing toward the blooming part of the lily. This section should extend through the gap, approximately 1.25 cm long.
Step 7. Gather the blooming lily petals around the pipe cleaner
Use a little hot glue on the front, right where the flower blooms. Take both sides of the blooming flower (right where you made the slice) and bring them together in front of the pipe cleaner, pressing them together so they stick together because of the burnt glue. You can add glue between the sides if needed.
Step 8. Create the stem section using a green pipe cleaner
Wrap the top around the yellow bottom of the pipe cleaner, so the yellow is covered. Leave the end of the green pipe cleaner straight so it looks like a stick.
Method 2 of 3: Violet Flowers
Step 1. Cut a circle out of the purple foam
Use purple foam if you want to make violets, although you can of course use other colors if you want to make flowers of a different kind.
Step 2. Make a wedge around the circle
Make slices of the same size from the edge of the circle leading to the center, stopping at a distance of about 1.25 cm from the center.
Step 3. Cut a "v" shape from the petals by making two diagonal cuts
Step 4. Cut a small circle from the white foam
This object will be the center of the flower.
Step 5. Glue the circle to the center of the flower
Use some hot glue and stick a small white circle onto it.
Step 6. Wrinkle the petals
Squeeze them vertically to half size, so that these sections stand up slightly and create a 3-dimensional effect, instead of lying flat.
Step 7. Glue the stem to the back of the flower
Use a green pipe cleaner as the stem, and attach the top to the back of the flower center.
Method 3 of 3: Chrysanthemum Flowers
Step 1. Cut the foam square sheet in half
Choose whatever color you want, because chrysanthemum has a wide color variant.
Step 2. Create a circle
Apply a line of hot glue to the bottom of the foam, then glue the top of the foam sheet with the glue.
Step 3. Trim the edges
Use a straight cut from the folded portion of the circle, aiming for the edge of the section containing the glue. Stop cutting before you reach the glue line. Continue until you have cut all the same pieces in opposite positions.
Step 4. Roll up the foam
Start at the short edge and roll in the opposite direction. When you're done, apply a small amount of hot glue along the opposite end and press the roll. Then, start with the other end of the foam and roll in the opposite direction.
Step 5. Open the flower
When the glue dries, use your fingers to open the flower by pulling on the "petals." Press each petal in the center until it opens. Continue this process until the flowers look perfect.
Step 6. Add a rod
Use a small amount of glue in the center of the bottom of the chrysanthemum. Place the tip of the pipe cleaner over the glue and hold it until the glue dries.
