This wikiHow teaches you how to spawn a Wither, a boss from the Nether, in Minecraft. The process for spawning Wither is no different on computer, console, and mobile versions of Minecraft. Keep in mind that Wither is a tough boss, even if you're wearing the best armor and weapons. So make sure you stock up on plenty of healing items and employ a retreat strategy if the situation goes bad.
Step
Method 1 of 2: Spawning Wither
Step 1. Go to the Nether
To spawn a Wither, you need to collect materials that can only be found in the Nether.
Step 2. Gather the necessary materials
You will need these two items from the Nether:
- 3 Wither Skeleton skulls - Kill the Wither Skeletons, which are black skeletons in the Nether fortress (in the console edition, the Wither Skeletons also appear elsewhere in the Nether). The chance of the Wither Skeletons dropping a skull is 2.5 percent.
- 4 soul sand blocks - This material is black sand that can be found throughout the Nether.
Step 3. Return to Overworld
Exit the Nether by jumping into the Nether portal.
Step 4. Make preparations before the fight
The fight against Wither is going to be a long one so be prepared as best you can. Since these battles can be lengthy, and may even end up underground, it's a good idea to stock up on enough Potion of Night Vision as the Wither will destroy your torch. Also have a Potion of Regeneration, a Potion of Healing, a Potion of Strength, or a Golden Apple (especially those that have been enchanted).
It is highly recommended that you use Diamond Sword with Smite V, Diamond Armor with Protection IV, and Bow enchanted with Power IV or V. Also recommended against Wither in the Nether, but in a small area. Thus, Wither will not destroy valuables
Step 5. Find a good calling location
The Wither will destroy all blocks it touches, and the projectile can cause an explosion. So, fight near buildings, or near the characters you want to protect.
If you've ever beaten an Ender Dragon in The End, this is a great location to summon a Wither. Wither will focus on Endermen. You can let the Wither kill the Endermen to get lots of Ender Pearls, or make the Wither's blood half so that it can no longer fly so the Endermen can defeat it
Step 6. Make sure you meet the requirements to appear Wither
If you want to bring up Wither, don't play on the Peaceful difficulty, and there are no mods installed.
Step 7. Create a soul sand frame
The soul sand frame has a T shape, with one block touching the ground, one block directly above it, and one block on either side of the top block.
You have to make this frame before put a skull to be able to bring up Wither.
Step 8. Put one skull on each top block
Make sure you put 3 skulls on top of each frame over the T shape.
Step 9. Get ready to spawn Wither
After the last skull is placed, a blood box (health bar) will appear at the top of the screen and Wither will appear.
Method 2 of 2: Fighting Wither
Step 1. Back away as far as possible
Wither will explode once the blood box is full. The explosion alone is enough to kill you in one hit. So, keep as much distance as possible before it finishes appearing.
Step 2. Try not to hide
Wither knows your exact location, and destroys every block it touches. Your best strategy is to retreat while attacking instead of hiding and waiting for an opportunity.
Step 3. Keep moving
Don't stop if Wither is near you because you will be an easy target.
Step 4. Heal yourself as often as possible
A slight difference in blood can be a decisive win or lose against Wither.
Step 5. Use arrows during the first half of the fight
If you have a bow and arrow, shooting arrows at Wither while retreating is the best strategy. Unfortunately, Wither is immune to arrows when his blood reaches 50 percent.
Step 6. Attack Wither as fast as possible
Once Wither's blood is down to 50 percent, it will descend to the same ground as you. Take this opportunity to attack Wither quickly with the sword. Attack Wither while circling him.
- Dodging Wither's attacks while attacking him as much as possible is the only way to continue playing until Wither dies.
- Wither is able to heal his blood so you have to attack consistently.
Step 7. Pick up items that Wither drops when the fight is over
If Wither is defeated, make sure you pick up the dropped nether star. The Nether Star can be used to make beacons.
Tips
- Wither is an undead being (undead) so it can be hurt by the Potion of Healing, and healed by the Potion of Harming.
- Every now and then the Wither will fire blue Wither Skulls from the middle of his head. Wither will also fire this attack if there is no target within range. This attack is slow, but causes large area damage.
- The Snow Golem will shoot snowballs at Wither, which will distract him. You can take advantage of this and try to attack the Wither as much as possible.
- If you run too far from Wither, you won't attract his attention.
- Use a bedrock to keep the Wither in one place.
- Wither Storm is a mob that can only be used using mods.
