This wikiHow teaches you how to remove the back of a Samsung Galaxy phone. This is actually an advanced technique and can damage the phone or even become permanently unusable. Removing the back of a Samsung Galaxy will void its warranty.
If the phone is still under warranty and needs to be serviced, just contact Samsung Customer Service or take the phone to the shop where you bought it for repair by a technician.

Method 1 of 2: Samsung Galaxy S6 and S7
Step 1. Remove the phone case if necessary
Before continuing the process, first remove the external casing on the Samsung Galaxy if there is one.
Step 2. Turn off the phone
Do this by pressing and holding the Lock key, touching Power off in the menu that appears, and touch POWER OFF to confirm your choice.
If you don't turn it off when you open the back cover, you run the risk of a short circuit, or you could get electrocuted
Step 3. Remove the existing SIM or SD card
This is optional, but it is recommended that the heat supplied to the phone does not damage the SIM card and microSD (if applicable).
Use the tool to remove the SIM card and insert it into the hole provided on the top left side of the phone. The card tray will pop out, which will contain the SIM and microSD card slots
Step 4. Face the phone down on a soft surface
This is useful for preventing scratches on the phone screen when you open the back cover.
For example, you can place towels or placemats on the table
Step 5. Spray heat on the back of the Samsung Galaxy phone
This should be done for about 2 minutes. The best tool for this is a hairdryer or heat gun, but don't direct the heat at one point for more than 1 second at a time. This will loosen the glue that attached the back of the Samsung Galaxy to the phone's internal frame.
- To prevent damage to the phone, point the heat gun at the back cover of the phone, then move it up and down in a zig-zag motion in a fast motion.
- Alternatively, use a microwaveable heating pad specially designed for this purpose.
Step 6. Slide a spudger (a flat plastic tool like a screwdriver) into the corner of the phone connection
There is a gap at the meeting place between the back and front of the phone. This is where you should insert your spudger, credit card, flat-blade screwdriver, or other flat object.
This aims to pry the back of the phone apart from the front, but hasn't let it slide yet
Step 7. Run the thin and flat tool to the left or right of the phone
For example, you can use a credit card or guitar pick. When doing so, the back of the phone will slightly detach from the front.
Do not use flat metal tools because they can scratch or damage the phone
Step 8. Run this pry tool to the opposite side of the phone
This makes the bottom of the back, as well as the right and left sides of the phone detach from the front.
You can use the heat again if needed
Step 9. Pry the back of the phone and pull it off
The last piece of glue on the phone will come off when you do this because the only thing holding the back of the phone is the glue on the top.
- You can use the heat gun again or slide the lever along the top of the phone to make the process easier.
- Place the back of the phone in a dry and warm location so that the internal parts are not damaged when reinstalled later.
Method 2 of 2: Samsung Galaxy S to S5
Step 1. Remove the phone case if necessary
Before continuing the process, first remove the external casing on the Samsung Galaxy if there is one.
Step 2. Turn off the phone
Do this by pressing and holding the Lock key, touching Power off on the menu that appears, and touch POWER OFF (or OK on some phones) to confirm your selection.
If you don't turn it off when you open the back cover, you run the risk of a short circuit, or you could get electrocuted
Step 3. Face the phone down on a soft surface
This is useful for preventing scratches on the phone screen when you open the back cover.
For example, you could place a towel on the table
Step 4. Look for a slot to remove the back cover
Depending on the phone model, these slots are in different places:
- S4 and S5 - The top left corner of the back cover of the phone.
- S2 and S3 - The top of the back cover of the phone.
- S - The bottom of the back cover of the phone.
Step 5. Slide the nail into the slot
You can also use a guitar pick, small flat-blade screwdriver, or something similar as long as it's done gently.
Step 6. Gently pry the back of the phone towards your body
The back will be detached from the phone.
Step 7. Pull the back of the case off the phone
Hold the phone case firmly, then pull it off the phone. Doing so will reveal the SIM card and phone battery.
