Instagram is expanding its video sharing features so that users get more tools to upload longer and complex videos. iOS device users can now combine multiple videos into one long clip directly via Instagram. This feature is also scheduled to be available for Android device users. Instagram also raised the video length limit from 15 seconds to 60 seconds. However, this feature is still provided on a “turnover” basis and is not always available to everyone.

Step 1. Update Instagram to the latest version

The Instagram update version 7.19 (31 March 2016) added back the feature of creating videos from some clips. In addition, Instagram has also started offering a video upload feature with a maximum duration of 60 seconds (in turn for each user). This change in the duration limit itself is an increase from the initial 15 second duration limit. However, this feature is provided on a rolling basis and may not be available to you yet.

You can check for Instagram updates by opening the App Store and tapping the “Updates” tab

Step 2. Go to the “Camera” tab on Instagram and select “Library“

In the latest version of Instagram iOS, you can combine several clips that were previously recorded through the iPhone camera. However, the clips are still subject to a 15-second duration limit (overall), or 60 seconds if Instagram has given you the feature to upload longer videos.

  • Press and hold the “Record” button to record the first clip.
  • Release the button to stop the clip recording. Press the button again to record the next clip. Touch the " Delete " button to delete the previously recorded clip. You can record videos that are 15 seconds in total (or 60 seconds if Instagram has provided a longer video upload feature on your account).
  • Tap " Next " to add a filter and select followers who can see your video, just like a regular Instagram post.

Step 1. Update Instagram to the latest version

Although the iOS version of Instagram already has a video creation feature from multiple clips (read the previous segment), this feature is not yet available for Android devices. There's no exact release date for this feature for Android, but by keeping your app up to date, you can access the feature as soon as it's released.

Instagram videos have a 15 second limit, but Instagram updated the service and allows uploading videos up to 60 seconds long. This feature is still very limited, and gradually accounts will get the feature

Step 2. Download a video editing app

  • Adobe Premiere Clip
  • AndroVid
  • MP4 Video Merger

Step 3. Merge the clips using the downloaded video editing app

The process you need to follow varies from app to app, but all apps still allow you to combine multiple videos into one long clip. Keep in mind that Instagram videos have a maximum length of 15 seconds, unless your account already has a 60-second video upload feature.

Step 4. Add music (optional)

There are many video editing apps that allow you to select a song from your device library and add it to your video. However, in order to add a song to a video, the song file must already be saved on your phone.

Step 5. Save the video

Most video editing apps don't have sharing to Instagram built in, unless the app is specifically designed for use with Instagram. You need to save the combined video to your phone's storage space first.

If you get a save option, make sure you save the video to a “common” or easily accessible location, such as a “Pictures”, “Downloads”, or “Movies” folder
