Many people who use iTunes software to manage and play music files also use iTunes to manage music files they get through other software. iTunes has several options that allow users to add music to their iTunes library, including ripping CDs and importing music from other software. For music files that you can't add this way, you can add them to iTunes by adding a music folder.
Step
Step 1. Open iTunes and make the menu bar visible
Head into iTunes, and browse through your library under any music tab (artists, albums, songs, it doesn't matter). At the top left of the screen, there is a small rectangle that is half filled. Click this image, and a drop-down menu will appear. Scroll to the bottom of this drop-down menu, and select 'Show Menu Bar'. As soon as you click this, a traditional menu with 'File', 'Edit', 'View', 'Controls', 'Store' and 'Help' options will appear near the top of the screen.
If your menu bar is already visible, then skip this step
Step 2. Find the music you want to add to iTunes
Whether you've downloaded mp3s from the internet or have music hidden in other files on your computer, you'll need to find the folder where your music is stored. Search your computer (outside of iTunes) and find your music folder. Move this file folder to an easy-to-see location, such as on your desktop or your downloads folder. This will make it easier to find, when you add the folder to iTunes later.
Step 3. Check the file extensions to make sure that the songs are compatible with iTunes
Most music can be added to iTunes without a problem, but you should check to make sure the file extensions used for your music are compatible. The music can have one of the following extensions: AAC, MP3, WAV, AIFF, AA or M4A. If you have an unprotected WMA file, iTunes can convert it to a usable format. Or, you'll need to convert your music to one of these file formats before adding it to iTunes.
Step 4. Add the new folder to iTunes
Click the "File" menu. Mac users will see an "Add to Library" option, while PC users will see "Add Folder to Library." Click the option that appears according to the computer you're using, and let iTunes open a browsing window.
There's also an option to 'Add File to Library', but this will only add one song, not the entire folder of songs, to your iTunes
Step 5. Browse to the folder you created
In the newly opened window, look for the file folder containing the music you placed earlier. Click to highlight it, then click "Select Folder" at the bottom of the window.
If you use the 'Add File to Library' option, you can hold down the shift key to select multiple items, and effectively copy entire music folders to your library
Step 6. Locate the folder to add to iTunes library
After you click 'Select Folder', the browsing window will close automatically, and you will see your library again. Wait 5-10 seconds, then search your library for the music folder you just added. It will take a little while to copy, so if it doesn't appear immediately, be patient. Once you've found the folder, test the music to make sure it's copied without a hitch. If you can play the songs well, you're done!
