This wikiHow teaches you how to browse the internet with a proxy server in Internet Explorer, as well as any other web browser running on the Windows operating system.
Step
Step 1. Press Win+S to display the Windows search bar
A search bar will open afterwards (if the computer is running at least Windows Vista operating system).
- This method can also be applied to other web browsers, such as Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox.
- If you are using Windows XP, open Internet Explorer, click the " Tools ”, and move on to step three.
Step 2. Type internet into the search bar
A list of matching results will be displayed.
Step 3. Click Internet Options
The "Internet Properties" control panel will be displayed.
Step 4. Click the Connections tab
It's a tab at the top of the window.
Step 5. Click LAN Settings
It's at the bottom of the tab.
Step 6. Check the box next to “Use a proxy server for your LAN” option
This box is below the " Proxy server " heading in the bottom half of the window.
Step 7. Enter the proxy server address and port number
The address and port number have their own fields under the "Proxy server" heading.
If you need to assign a different address and port to a different service (e.g. you have a separate proxy for FTP connections), click the “ Advanced ” to enter additional information.
Step 8. Check the box next to "Bypass proxy server for local addresses" option
This way, you can perform actions such as accessing the wireless router administrator's website, without going through the proxy server.
Step 9. Click OK and re-select OK.
The “Internet Properties” window will close and the changes will be saved.
Step 10. Close and reopen Internet Explorer browser
After the browser restarts, the web traffic will be redirected to the proxy server you have specified.
