Overall body measurements that include bone weight and muscle weight are an important part of determining the theoretical weight range. This range is necessary so that people can determine their ideal weight according to overall body measurements. There are three body size categories: small, medium, and large. Each is different based on your gender. By measuring your wrist circumference and elbow width, you can tell which category you are in. The first step below details each method.
Step
Method 1 of 2: Wrist Circumference
Step 1. Circle your wrist with a measuring tape (left or right)
Take the end of the measuring tape and twist it around your wrist.
Step 2. Record the circumference of your wrist
You can use the table below to determine your body frame based on your wrist circumference.
Method 2 of 2: Elbow Width
Step 1. Bend your arms to a 90 degree position
Make sure your forearms are perpendicular to the ground. The left or right arm doesn't really matter, but it fits better in the table below if you use the dominant arm.
Step 2. Done
Tips
- You can use a body measurement online. You still have to measure your wrist or elbow, but all you have to do is enter the data in the calculator and your body measurement will automatically come out.
- Regular exercise and eating a healthy diet can show how your body changes when you lose weight. Use these changes as your motivation to maintain a healthy lifestyle that works for you.
- In addition to the three categories above, there are three categories of “body type”: endomorph, mesomorph, and ectomorph. Endomorphs have large bones and high body fat, and are slow to lose weight. Mesomorphs are medium in size, strong, athletic build, and relatively easy to lose weight and gain muscle. Ectomorphs are thin and leggy, with little muscle or body fat.
- Use your body measurements to determine how losing weight will affect your appearance. If you are naturally large, some parts of your body like your shoulders will stay the same even if you lose weight. If you have a naturally small body size, you will more easily feel the effects of gaining weight faster than someone with a medium or large body size.
