Racing bikes must be adapted to suit each particular rider. Measuring your race bike for a perfect fit will help you achieve the comfort and efficiency of your race bike. All the equipment you need to measure your race bike is available at home supply stores. Use these suggestions to measure a race bike.
Step
Method 1 of 2: Choose Your Bike Frame
Step 1. Select the bicycle frame type
Choose a frame of type C-C or C-T.
Step 2. Measure the length of your leg from the groin to the bottom of the calf
-
Stand leaning against the wall.
-
Spread your feet 15 to 20 cm wide.
-
Place the book perpendicular between your legs. The spine of the book should be facing the opposite direction to the wall. The other corner of the book should be in contact with the wall.
-
Lift the book up to your groin. You can assume that you are in the saddle of a bicycle.
-
Ask someone to help measure the distance between the book on top and the book on the bottom. This is the length of your foot.
Step 3. Calculate the size of the bicycle frame
-
Multiply your leg length by 0.65 if you're using a C-C type frame. If your foot length is 76.2 cm, then the result is 49.5 cm. As much as possible your bicycle frame should be as close to 49.5 cm as possible.
-
Multiply your leg length by 0.67 if you are using a C-T type frame. If the length of your leg is 76.2 cm, then the result is 51.1 c. As much as possible your bicycle frame should be as close to 51.1 cm as possible.
Step 4. Calculate the total range
Total reach indicates how far you should bend horizontally on the bike from the saddle to the handlebars. The measure of the total reach indicates the distance from the tip of the top stem or crossbar, to the tube where the handlebars are attached to the bike.
-
Stand leaning against the wall.
-
Hold a pencil. Hold the pencil.
-
Hold your arms by your sides perpendicular. Your arms should be parallel to the floor.
-
Ask someone to help you determine the length between the closest point of your collarbone to your shoulder and a pencil using a tape measure. This is the length of your arm.
-
Place the book perpendicularly between your legs. The spine of the book should be facing the opposite direction to the wall. The other corner of the book should be in contact with the wall.
-
Lift the book up to your groin.
-
Ask someone to measure the length using a tape measure between your book and your throat, close under your Adam's apple. This is your body length.
-
Add the length of the sleeves to the length of the body. Arm length measuring 61 cm and body length measuring 61 cm will give you a result of 122 cm.
-
Divide by 2 that amount. The result of measuring 122 cm from the total gives you a result of 61 cm.
-
Add that number by 10, 2 cm. Now you get 71.2 cm. From the end of the top stem to the tube where the handlebars attach to the frame, your bike should be as close to 71.2 cm as possible.
Method 2 of 2: Adjusting Seat Height
Step 1. Sit on the bike
Step 2. Turn one of the pedals at the lowest turning point
The foot on the pedal turned down should be slightly bent.
