Vaseline (petroleum jelly) is one of the most versatile beauty and skin care products commonly available in the bathroom. Unfortunately, there are many people who feel hesitant or anxious when using commercial Vaseline products (eg Vaseline) because of the possible toxins contained in petroleum-derived products. If you're unsure about using commercial Vaseline products, the good news is that you can make your own natural version of Vaseline at home. You can make your own Vaseline, either a simple two-ingredient version, an extra-moisturizing version, or a vegan version so you don't have to buy commercial Vaseline products again.

Ingredients

Simple Vaseline with Two Ingredients

  • 30 grams of beeswax
  • 120 ml olive oil

Extra moisturizing Vaseline

  • 50 grams of coconut oil
  • 30 ml olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons (30 grams) beeswax
  • Tea tree or peppermint essential oil (optional)

Vegan Special Vaseline

  • Organic cocoa butter wafer (1 part)
  • Cold-pressed organic sunflower oil (1 part)

Step

Method 1 of 3: Make Simple Vaseline with Two Ingredients

Step 1. Mix beeswax and olive oil

Pour 30g of beeswax and 120ml of olive oil into a small saucepan. You don't need to stir the ingredients as they won't mix until the wax melts.

  • Usually, it's easier to use the wax in pellets instead of blocks. Besides being easier to measure, wax pellets also melt faster.
  • Make sure you choose yellow beeswax pellets, and not white pellets. The white pellets have gone through a filtering process so that many of their natural ingredients are also filtered out.

Step 2. Heat and melt the mixture using the stove

Place the pot on the stove and turn the stove to low heat. Heat the ingredients until the wax melts. This process takes about 5-10 minutes.

As the wax begins to melt, stir the mixture occasionally to make sure the ingredients are evenly mixed

Step 3. Pour the mixture into a container and let it cool

Once the wax has melted and mixed with the olive oil, remove the pan from the heat. Carefully pour the mixture into a jar or glass container and let it cool for a few hours. This will allow the mixture to harden to a texture similar to that of commercial Vaseline products.

When storing the mixture, choose a container with a lid to prevent dust and other debris from entering and mixing with your homemade vaseline

Method 2 of 3: Making Extra Moisturizing Vaseline

Step 1. Pour water into a pot and put a glass bowl in it

Fill a large pot until it is half filled with water. After that, place a glass bowl in the pot to make a team pot.

Step 2. Add coconut oil and beeswax and heat until melted

After preparing the team pot, pour 50 grams of coconut oil and 2 tablespoons (30 grams) of beeswax into a bowl. Place the pot on the stove and heat over low-medium heat until the ingredients are completely melted. This process takes about 5 minutes.

  • The mixture will melt faster if you use beeswax in pellet form instead of blocks.
  • Stir the mixture periodically as you melt it to ensure the coconut oil and wax are thoroughly mixed.

Step 3. Remove the pan from the stove and add the olive oil

Once the coconut oil and beeswax have melted, remove the pan from the heat. Stir the mixture again until smooth. After that, add 30 ml of olive oil and stir the mixture until it's smooth, but still easy enough to pour.

If you want to give your vaseline a sweet scent, add 2-3 drops of tea tree oil, peppermint, or other essential oil

Step 4. Pour the mixture into a container and let it cool

Once the vaseline mixture is finished stirring, carefully pour it into a jar or glass container with a lid. Allow the vaseline to cool for 2-3 hours until the mixture hardens before using.

This homemade Vaseline will last for a maximum of 1 year when stored at room temperature

Step 1. Mix cacao butter wafers and sunflower oil in a balanced ratio

To make healthy vegan specialty Vaseline, you'll need equal proportions of organic cocoa butter wafers and cold-pressed organic sunflower oil. Adjust the amount to the amount of mixture you want, then pour the ingredients into a small or medium-sized saucepan.

  • For small amounts, use about 1 tablespoon of cocoa butter wafers and 1 tablespoon of sunflower oil.
  • For large quantities, use 120 g of cocoa butter wafer and 120 ml of sunflower oil.

Step 3. Pour the mixture into a container and let it cool

Once all the cocoa butter has melted, remove the pan from the heat. Carefully pour the vaseline mixture into a jar or glass bottle, and let it sit for 2-3 hours to cool before using.

Tips

  • Mix Vaseline with sugar to make a lip scrub.
  • Apply Vaseline to your foundation and waterproof mascara to lift it off your skin.
  • Homemade Vaseline can also be used as a lip balm to treat chapped lips, as well as a moisturizer for dry and chapped skin.
