How to Organize a Small Wardrobe (with Pictures)

If your wardrobe is small, you may find it difficult to arrange clothes and other items in this small space without making it look like a ship breaking when you open the wardrobe door. Organizing a wardrobe of any size starts with sorting out your things, but for a small wardrobe, you also have to be creative in sorting through your choices so things can be neatly arranged.

Part 1 of 2: Unloading the Wardrobe

Step 1. Remove all items from your wardrobe

In order to get an idea of how small the space in this wardrobe is, you need to remove all the things that are in the wardrobe. Thus, it is also easier for you to sort out items from the wardrobe.

Step 2. Sort through all the items

Sort out all the clothes, shoes, accessories, and other items from your wardrobe. Make three separate piles: things you want to keep, things you might want to keep, and things you want to throw away or get rid of.

• Throw away any clothes that are damaged or that are too small for you. You should also get rid of clothes you no longer wear, even if they are still in good condition.
• If you're not sure whether to get rid of them or keep them, mark them with ribbon or marker. If you decide to use the item, unmark it. If there are still marks on the items, remove them.
• Donate or throw away items you don't need. Getting rid of clothes or other items that you no longer use will create additional space in your wardrobe, while making it easier for you to organize the items you have selected. Goods that are still good should be donated, while things that are damaged are better thrown away.

Step 3. Temporarily remove items that are used in certain seasons from your wardrobe

If you have other storage space for this particular item, such as an attic or storage room, remove most of the seasonal clothing and items from your wardrobe after the season has passed.

• If you have a garage, basement, or attic space, you can store seasonal items there.
• Make sure that your belongings are stored in plastic boxes with airtight lids to prevent them from being damaged by humidity or insect attack.
• If you don't have any other storage space outside the wardrobe, at least maybe you can store seasonal items on the top/top shelf or in unused areas to store the items that need to be accessed and used on a daily basis..

Step 4. Make a mapping of the available space

Before you start reorganizing your wardrobe, measure the space. Knowing the exact size with a meter will make it easier for you to determine the best arrangement for the space.

When removing a storage container that will be used again in your wardrobe, measure the container. This will help you calculate how much stuff can fit into that small space

Part 2 of 2: Grouping Items

Step 1. Add shelves with adjustable positions

Adding shelves to your wardrobe makes the arrangement of clothes more effective, and allows you to use both vertical and horizontal spaces in the wardrobe.

You can use permanent shelves if you prefer, but adjustable shelves provide the added benefit of being able to change their position if and when you want to

Step 2. Use wicker baskets and small plastic containers or drawers

You can store smaller items in a container like this and place the container on the shelves of your wardrobe. That way, it's easy for you to access the things you need while still maximizing the use of other spaces.

• If using a wicker basket, choose a basket that has a linen or canvas lining, especially if you store items made of cloth. This layer of fabric will keep your belongings from snagging or tearing due to the ends of the rattan fibers in the basket.
• Transparent containers are usually very useful, because you can see your stuff inside so it's easy to remember what's in the container.
• If you use non-transparent containers or storage containers, you can label the contents of the containers so you can see and remember the contents of each container.

Step 3. Place a shoe rack in your wardrobe

If you store your shoes in your wardrobe, arrange them using a shoe rack that sits at the bottom or hangs in the wardrobe. This will maximize the space in your wardrobe and help you organize your shoes more neatly.

• You can use shoe storage or you can buy stacked shoe boxes. No matter what type of shoe holder you use, the goal is for you to be able to organize your shoes and minimize the space used for these shoes.
• As with other items, rotate your shoes according to the seasons. In the front, place boots in winter and sandals in summer.

Step 4. Attach the hanger hooks to the top of the inner side of the cabinet door

If you have free space in your wardrobe, near the top of the door, you can attach hanger hooks or nails and use this space to store bags or other hangable items that you don't use often.

Step 5. Create additional storage space at the door

As long as there's room on the inside of the wardrobe door, you can add hooks or hangers on the inside of the door for extra space. You can use this space to hang small items, such as scarves, hats or gloves.

• You can also install multi-purpose hanging baskets on the inside of the wardrobe door. You can put small items such as handbags or scarves in this basket.
• If the above methods don't work, you can at least attach a hanger hook to the outside of the closet door. This hanger hook can be used to place your handbag, sleepwear, jacket or clothes for tomorrow's activities.

Step 6. Consider adding a hanging rail in your wardrobe

Installing a second hanger under a pre-existing cane/hanger rail gives you additional space without taking up space for storage boxes or other hanging clothes.

Step 7. Install the pegboard (a board with evenly spaced small holes in an orderly position) on the inside of one of the walls/cabinet doors. Pegboards can be used to hang earrings, glasses, or other accessories. Since these items are usually flat, you can store them on the inside of one of your closet walls/doors without taking up the space used for other items.

Step 8.

Hang storage pockets.

If you don't have a lot of space to put storage containers or stackable containers, you can hang up the bags and use them as storage for your belongings.

Create a category of items for each bag. For example, one pocket for your underwear, one for socks, one for hair jewelry, and so on

Organizing Items Concisely

1. Use a vacuum bag. Vacuum bags help you organize your clothes for long-term storage by minimizing the space consumed by air between your clothes. Put folded clothes in this vacuum bag and use the vacuum hose from the vacuum cleaner to blow all the air out of the bag so that the contents of the bag become denser.

   

   • In most types of vacuum bags, you can suck the remaining air from the bag with a regular vacuum cleaner in your home, so you don't need to buy a special tool for this purpose.
   • Another advantage that vacuum bags offer is the protection of your clothes from mold, rot and insects.
   • This option is good for seasonal wear, winter jackets, blankets, and pillows.
   • When you remove items from the vacuum bag, they will return to their normal shape and size.

2. Replace the usual clothes hangers with tiered hangers. Multilevel hangers are clothes hangers that have more than one rail. These hangers can store more than one piece of clothing so you can use more of the free vertical space in your wardrobe.

   

   • For increased comfort, use hangers with good grip to prevent your clothes from falling off.
   • If necessary, make your own tiered hangers. You can use a hook ring from an old soft drink can and attach it from the clothes hanger hook section, then attach a second clothes hanger to the hook ring from the can. Alternatively, you can also hang a fairly sturdy chain on a hanger rail in a closet and attach each clothes hanger/chain to the holes in the chain.

3. Choose the right sorting system. For an easier arrangement, you can sort clothes by color and type. Organize other items into your wardrobe with the sorting system that is best suited for your condition. <

   

   Group your clothes into as many categories as possible. Separate long-sleeved shirts and short-sleeved shirts, trousers and skirts, everyday clothes and party clothes. Next, separate again according to color or material

4. Place items that you use frequently in a position that is easy to see. Clothes and other items that you use frequently should be in the center front of your wardrobe, while other items that you don't use often can be placed either at the top or bottom.

   

   • Rotate these items if necessary. For example, if you store long-sleeved and short-sleeved clothes in your wardrobe, place the short-sleeved shirts up front in the summer but move them up in the winter, so that the long-sleeved shirts can take their place on the front.
   • Fill in the topmost room. Don't forget the space above your head. While you may not have easy access to this space, you should take a ladder or a climbing bench and arrange items you rarely use there.

5. Hang scarves and ties on the inside of the wardrobe door. If you still have free space ready to use, place a hanger hook on the inside of a wall or closet door and hang a tie hanger or other hanger that can be used to store flat items or jewelry.
