Many people like Mac computers, but can't afford them because they are expensive. But generally, if you know where to look for discounts, you can buy a Mac for 10% less than the price at the Apple Store. You can even get more than 20% off, especially if you don't need the newest Mac.

Method 1 of 2: Finding a Computer at a Discount
Step 1. Select the Mac model you want
If you just want to buy the newest Mac, compare your Macs with the online comparison tool on Apple's site. Compare older Mac models by reading the buyer's guide on Mac Rumors and similar sites.
- If it's your first time buying a Mac, visit the Apple Store for guidance. However, don't be tempted to buy a Mac right away because you can still get a Mac at a lower price.
- Generally, Apple releases a new computer every 6 months or so. If the latest Mac model was released a few months ago, wait for the Mac to update. Undoubtedly, older Mac models will be reduced in price.
Step 2. Get educational discounts if possible
New and existing students, faculty, and campus staff can get substantial discounts by visiting a Mac store for education. After you select a product and enter your payment information, Apple will direct you to another site to verify your status for free.
- Prepare proof of education, such as a KTM or employee card on campus. If you don't have a KTM/Employee Card, contact the Apple Store for assistance.
- Find new school year discounts. Generally, in the new school year, Apple gives a bonus App Store gift card worth $100.
Step 3. Buy a reconditioned computer
Refurbished computers are returned to Apple for certain defects, but have been carefully repaired and tested. Usually, a refurbished computer is not much different from a new computer, and you can return your computer for free if something goes wrong. Refurbished computers sell for 10-20% less than new computers, but your options are limited.
Make sure you check the computer model carefully. Older computers may be cheaper, but the specifications may not be sufficient for your needs
Step 4. Check the laundry products
Although not often, Apple also holds a laundry. Check Apple's laundry site periodically to try your luck.
Step 5. Find a quality used computer
Apple does not allow other sellers to use the term refurbished. This means that the used Mac you buy can range in condition from destroyed to like new. In Indonesia, Mac Arena and Morzell are examples of sellers who provide used Mac computers in like new condition.
- Used computers may not include the included packaging and manuals.
- You can find used Mac computers elsewhere, but make sure you check Apple certifications and reader reviews before buying.
Step 6. Find a new computer at a lower price
While you won't be able to get a discount with any of the options above, you might be able to buy a Mac for a lower price after checking several store offers. The price of a Mac in the Apple Store is the highest price. Instead, try looking for your Mac at an Apple-certified retailer, such as an iBox or IMAX. You can also find Macs at major stores like Carrefour.
- Apple certifies sellers as "Apple Authorized Reseller", and the seller who provides the best guidance is awarded "Apple Specialist" status.
- Visit Apple's reseller site first to find discount offers. If you decide to visit the store, print out the discounts that are on the site, then take the prints with you.
Method 2 of 2: Saving in Other Ways
Step 1. Compare bids between sellers
If you find two or three offers at a price that is not far apart, read the offers carefully. Many sellers include bonuses, such as discounts on Apple Care warranty or free software. If you do plan to buy the "bonus", the higher price may be worth what you get.

Step 2. Install the RAM yourself
Adding RAM will speed up your Mac computer, and buying RAM yourself is cheaper than buying it from Apple. To install new RAM, prepare a screwdriver, guide, and patience. Guides for installing RAM in Mac computers are widely available on the internet.
Not all RAM is equal. In 2015, DDR3 and DDR4 are the latest RAM standards, with performance that is good enough for home users
Step 3. Consider buying a separate drive as market drives are cheaper than Mac default ones
Save files that you don't use frequently on a backup drive.
Step 4. Be careful when buying third-party chargers
