Duel is a mode in Red Dead Redemption that pits you against someone to determine who is the fastest shooter. Losing a duel means dying, so to survive you need to know how to win a duel. Once you're good at aiming and shooting, the duels should be pretty easy to win.
Step
Step 1. Start the duel
The West is full of danger, and conflicts are resolved by duels. There are several ways to start a duel in the game:
- Several story missions involve duels, including some Stranger missions.
- As your popularity increases, you will be challenged to duels more and more often. These challenges occur as you walk through different cities and settlements. Your popularity increases by completing missions, jobs and challenges, as well as winning poker and killing enemies.
- If you cheat while playing poker, you may be challenged to a duel by your opponent. When you wear an Elegant Suit and cheat while playing poker, you will be challenged to a duel every time you get caught.
- You can be challenged to a duel when you knock someone off their horse. However, this is very rare.
Step 2. Understand the duel scoring system
When the duel starts, there are two bars in the lower right corner of the screen. The blue cross represents your score, the red cross represents your opponent. To win a duel, you need to raise your bar faster than your opponent. Aim for the head or chest, mark the shot at the right time and fill your bars quickly.
Step 3. Press and hold
LT/L2 when the words " Draw! " appear on the screen. This will open the gun from its holster. If the button is pressed too quickly, the camera will move away and it will be more difficult to aim at the opponent.
You can also pull the gun by sliding the right analog stick DOWN, then UP like pulling a gun from its holster
Step 4. Use Right Stick to aim at your opponent
Time slows down as the gun is drawn. You can move the aiming circle with the Right Stick. Aim for your opponent's head or chest and raise your Honor.
- Avoid shooting in the stomach or legs, as the bars won't fill up much.
- You cannot knock out opponents during duels in the storyline.
Step 5. Pay attention to the color of the crosshairs
When the circle is moved on the opponent, its color and size will change. When it's red and big, the shot won't be worth much. When it is white and small, the value is very large.
Step 6. Press
RB/R1 to mark the target.
When the shooting circle is small and white, and you are aiming at the body part of the opponent you want to shoot, press RB/R1 to mark targets.
If you aim at your opponent's gun, a sharp shot with a white circle will fill your bar instantly. This shot is difficult, chances are you will miss the first two shots. Keep aiming for the chest or head so that the duel is still won
Step 7. Continue marking your target
You can mark your opponent six times with a revolver. The number of marks that can be made depends on the type of gun used. Each time a mark is made, your bar will be filled. To win a duel, simply fill more bars than your opponent.
Step 8. Press Press
RT/R2 if you are satisfied with the markings made.
The duel will end and if your bar fills more than your opponent, John will shoot at the marked spots.
