Dead Eye is an ability in the game Red Dead Redemption that lets you slow down time and shoot accurately. You will unlock this ability automatically at the start of the game, and it will be upgraded several times during the game. If this ability is maximized, you will mark the point of the shot exactly. To be able to use Dead Eye, you need to fill the Dead Eye meter.
Step
Part 1 of 3: Using Dead Eye Level 1
Step 1. Complete at least the second mission, " New Friends, Old Problems"
This mission for Bonnie Clyde will unlock the first level of Dead Eye. You will not be able to use it until you complete the mission.
Step 2. Fill the Dead Eye meter
Using Dead Eye will drain meters on the right side of the map. This meter can be filled by killing enemies or using certain items. Get a headshot (shot to the head) to fill the meter faster. The meter does not need to be full, but Dead Eye's usage time will not be maximized. You can use the following items to fill the meter:
- Snake Oil
- Chewing Tobacco
- Moonshine (Gives unlimited meters for 10 seconds)
- Tonic (Created from harvesting crops after clearing Legendary rank in Survivalist)
Step 3. Put on the rifle
Dead Eye is best combined with firearms, preferably multiple rounds. You can use Dead Eye with a throwing weapon like the Throwing Knife, but you can only throw one knife per Dead Eye use.
You cannot use throwing weapons and Dead Eye in multiplayer mode
Step 4. Hold down the shutter button and enter Aiming mode
You have to aim to be able to trigger Dead Eye mode. Stand L2 or LT to aim your weapon.
Step 5. Press right stick to activate Dead Eye mode
While aiming, click R3 or RS to activate Dead Eye mode. The screen will turn red and everything except you will move slower.
- While in Dead Eye mode, you cannot be harmed.
- Press R3 or RS once again to cancel Dead Eye mode. You will not recover all used meters.
Step 6. Press the trigger to fire in Dead Eye mode
For the first level of Dead Eye mode, time will slow down and you can aim and fire multiple shots. Press R2 or RT to fire while in Dead Eye mode.
You can only shoot one bullet at a time using Dead Eye Level 1
Part 2 of 3: Wearing Dead Eye Level 2
Step 1. Upgrade Dead Eye to Level 2 by continuing the story
Eventually you'll unlock the next level of Dead Eye mode during Nigel West Dickens' "You Shall Not Give False Testimony, Except for Profit" mission. Dead Eye Level 2 lets you mark multiple targets so they can be shot at once.
Step 2. Use Dead Eye Level 2 to mark the target
When you enter Dead Eye Level 2 mode, you will be able to mark the target automatically by moving the target icon to the target. Enter Dead Eye mode, then move the target icon to multiple targets. You will see some small marks appear on the target as you move the target icon.
Step 3. Shoot the marked target
After marking the target with Dead Eye Level 2, press R2 or RT to shoot. Marston will shoot all the marked targets in succession. Marston will shoot all marked targets automatically when Dead Eye's meter runs out.
You will still shoot someone even if they try to take over. It's a good idea to mark targets that are near your shelter beforehand so they don't go into hiding
Part 3 of 3: Using Dead Eye Level 3
Step 1. Upgrade Dead Eye to Level 3 in Mexico
You'll be able to upgrade Dead Eye to the third level once you reach Mexico and meet Landon Ricketts in Chuparosa. Complete the mission "The Gunslinger's Tragedy" to access the third level of Dead Eye.
Step 2. Mark the target manually with Dead Eye Level 3
The third level Dead Eye has the best control, but is also the most difficult to master. While Dead Eye mode is in progress, press R1 or RB to mark each target. You can mark as many targets as you want according to the number of bullets in the weapon.
Step 3. Shoot the marked target
After marking the target in Dead Eye mode, press R2 or RT to shoot. All marked targets will be shot like Level 2.
Step 4. Use Dead Eye Level 3 to hit the target
You can use this advanced aiming to make extraordinary shots, such as 5 headshots in a row, or shoot a gun out of someone's hand. When entering Dead Eye, assess your situation quickly and aim for the target that gives the maximum results.
- Shooting a horse while it was ridden by someone would remove it from the fight for a while.
- Shooting someone's hand will either buy them time or spare their life, depending on the situation.
- Using Dead Eye Level 3 can make hunting challenges easier, especially when hunting birds.
Tips
- Use Dead Eye when surrounded as it will make you invulnerable and allow you to get rid of several enemies at once.
- Dead Eye's sight will glow in dark places, which is useful at night or in caves.
- Activating Dead Eye will automatically reload the ammunition of the weapon being used.
- Dead Eye makes weapons somewhat stronger than usual.
