Glass is a very useful and must-have item in Minecraft. This decorative block lets light in without letting other things in. Most mobs, including Endermen, can't see your character through the mirror. Glass can be used to build a threat-free greenhouse at night. You can also turn the glass into colorful glass decorations, or potions bottles.
Recipe for Melting Glass
Step
Part 1 of 2: Melting Glass Blocks
Step 1. Find the sand
You can use regular sand or red sand. Both types of sand can be converted into ordinary glass.
Step 2. Put the sand into the furnace
Make a furnace of 8 cobblestones if you don't already have one. Place the furnace on the ground, then open the smelting window by right-clicking. Put the sand into the box at the top.
Step 3. Add fuel
Place wood, coal, or other fuel into the lower furnace box. As long as you keep fueling the furnace, it will turn each block of sand into a block of glass. Be patient as it will take you a few seconds to make each block.
Step 4. Take the glass from the furnace
The glass will be displayed in the result box within the fusing window. In Minecraft's default skin, the glass will look like a light blue transparent cube.
Step 5. Place the glass
Glass is a full-sized block that is completely translucent. You cannot recover glass blocks by breaking them. So don't place a block of glass in a certain place if you're not sure that you really want to put it there.
A tool that has been enchanted with Silk Touch can completely restore glass blocks
Part 2 of 2: Making Other Things out of Glass
Step 1. Turn the glass blocks into panels
You can turn 6 glass blocks into 16 panes of glass. Panels are thin, vertical blocks that can be used as windows. In the PC edition of Minecraft, create a rectangle shape 3 squares wide and 2 squares high in the crafting area.
- Glass panels will look strange or even invisible when they are not connected to something on the side. If you place another block nearby, the panel will automatically change shape and connect to that block.
- You cannot make the glass panes of the horizontal type (flat). Use glass blocks if you want to make a floor out of glass.
Step 2. Give your glass blocks a different color
To make colorful glass, place 8 glass blocks in the ring around the crafting area. Place the color of your favorite color in the center to turn the 8 glass blocks into colorful blocks.
- Tinted glass is not available in Pocket Edition running Update 0.16.2. This feature will be released in a future update.
- You can make multiple dyes by placing a single flower in the crafting area. Some examples of dyes you can use include: ink bags, lapislazuli, bone meal, and cocoa beans.
Step 3. Make a glass bottle
Do you want an ingredient to make beer? The first thing you have to do is make a glass bottle. Make a "V" shape in the crafting area using 3 glass blocks. It can produce 3 glass bottles.
To put water in a bottle, hold your bottle on the quick-slot bar and use the bottle to hold any type of water
Tips
- Snow cannot accumulate on the glass.
- Redstone flow can still flow into the glass block that has a diagonal position to the flow.
- Mobs cannot spawn on glass. If you want to keep a room in your house dark, use a glass floor to keep yourself safe. You can also create a neat visual effect using glass floors by building them over water or lava.
- To get light underwater, you can build a tower made of glass blocks. As long as the glass is connected to the glass on the surface, a faint beam of light will scatter from the light above.
- Village librarians wearing white robes will sometimes offer 3 to 5 glass blocks in exchange for one emerald. This is a tier 3 trade, which requires you to trade multiple times to unlock it. Trading options are not available in Minecraft Pocket Edition running Update 0.16.2.
- You can build a lighthouse out of glass, but you'll need other materials that are hard to find.
- You can't color panes of glass directly, but you can turn colored blocks of glass into panels of the same color.
