Everyone has experienced times when they feel disappointed in themselves and their lives, and these situations can have negative consequences for yourself and others. Therefore, try to feel happy so that you can do good things. There are many ways that can help you break free from unpleasant conditions and start feeling good!
Step
Method 1 of 2: Using Physical Solutions
Step 1. Drink lots of water
You will become dehydrated if you don't drink enough water, as a result you will feel tired and unable to work properly.
Drink at least 8 glasses of water every day
Step 2. Exercise
Exercising regularly can be beneficial in everything from helping you study to when you are asleep. Exercise can also reduce the chances of depression by releasing endorphins and serotonin, which can improve your mood so you will feel happy and able to respect yourself. You can still enjoy the benefits of exercise even if it's just a little practice. Here are some ideas for exercising in a fun way:
- On foot. If you live close to where you usually shop, just walk instead of using a vehicle. You can do what you need while exercising such as walking around your workplace during your lunch break. Try to identify the area around where you live on foot.
- Yoga can help manage stress, improve breathing, restore body condition, and aid in meditation. There are many different ways to practice yoga so you can easily choose the one that suits you best. You can learn yoga online, or find a yoga studio close to your home.
- Put on some music and dance. By dancing, our brain will release chemicals like if we exercise and it feels very good.
Step 3. Sing
Singing, especially singing in groups, will help our brain release endorphins and oxytocin hormones that will cause feelings of pleasure and can reduce stress and anxiety. Singing in a group will also build bonding and togetherness in the community that can overcome depression and loneliness.
- Forming a group to sing together is easy. Look for this group in the area where you live. You don't have to be a great singer to join this group. There are groups that don't audition and this activity is done just for fun.
- Singing alone can also provide several health benefits. Singing will regularize your breathing just like yoga does, and relax you.
Step 4. Help others
Being a philanthropist means being willing to use your time, energy, and money to help others. Being generous will make you feel insightful and purposeful. Research shows that helping others can also reduce stress and anxiety, which can make you feel better. In addition you can connect with other people.
- Volunteer at a homeless shelter or soup kitchen. Don't judge others who need help. You don't know what their life story is like.
- Non-profit activities can run because of the support of their volunteers. Find activities you enjoy in your area and help. This activity can be done by holding a theater camp for younger children or reading activities for older children.
Step 5. Think of something that can distract you from your current situation
You can pamper yourself by imagining what you love or something special that can bring back happy memories. You should take the time to take a break from the stress you are currently facing.
- Watch a movie or read a book you like. This activity will take you into the world you love.
- Find a poem, song, or painting that can remind you of a time or person who is important to you.
- Don't live in the past, or in an imaginary world. You need to be connected by now.
Step 6. Define achievable goals for yourself
That's not to say you shouldn't dream of becoming a president one day, but for now, set goals that you can achieve and work towards achieving them. You will feel a success when you are able to complete it.
- Start learning to play a musical instrument. The feeling of accomplishment that comes after you finish playing a song on the piano will make you feel good. Remember, don't be too hard on yourself as you study.
- Clean your room. This activity will keep you busy. Do it while listening to music and singing, besides being healthy, you will feel a success because you have achieved something by the time you finish doing it.
Method 2 of 2: Using Mental Solutions
Step 1. Think positive
This step is quite difficult to do and is a very difficult problem for marginalized people. Negative thoughts are very harmful to the mind and body. But there are several ways to conquer it.
- Don't try to avoid bad thoughts, but don't let them linger. If you have bad thoughts, get rid of them with good thoughts. (Example: If I stand in front of the mirror and think "Uh, I'm ugly," remove this thought and replace it with, "I'm great.") This seems like a stupid way to go but by doing it over and over, you'll definitely succeed.
- Calm down. If you pay attention to your thoughts, you will notice a diversion to negative thoughts. Try to return your thoughts to the positive according to the instructions above.
- Just forget the past. Remembering the past may be a difficult thing to do, and you can't change it either, but continuing to live in the past will only make things worse. Eliminate bad and embarrassing experiences in the past by doing good things or just forget about these bad thoughts while focusing on the present.
- Realize that you can't be happy all the time. Even though you are trying hard to always think positive and eliminate negative thoughts, you don't necessarily feel happy. This is normal and fine. Don't be so hard on yourself just because you're not happy.
- Never feel that you are a weak person. Being human and living life is a very difficult thing. You've made it this far according to what the best you can do! Safe.
Step 2. Learn how to meditate
Meditation will relax your body and mind, it can also relieve stress. In addition, meditation also helps you to focus on the present moment, and reduce negative attitudes.
- How to do basic meditation: sit quietly and close your eyes, relax your body (you may not even notice how tense you are!), focus your attention on your breath. Breathe deeply each time you inhale and exhale while directing the airflow to the diaphragm and then count your breaths.
- Do not feel stressed if there are disturbing thoughts while you are meditating. Say thank you for coming and let these thoughts go.
- You can practice meditation anywhere: on the bus, during your lunch break at work, or before you face a tough test.
- If you are a religious person, prayer will work in the same way as meditation. Calm down first and then pray lovingly for someone other than yourself; it could be for a member of your family, someone you don't know, or even for this world.
Step 3. Learn to be grateful
An attitude of gratitude means not taking it for granted, wanting to appreciate and celebrate the goodness that has been given to you. Research has proven that being grateful for your life will increase your well-being and happiness, and it will definitely make you feel good. Gratitude can also relieve negative emotions.
- Keep a diary of all the things you are grateful for. Write down what good things you have experienced and things you are grateful for, such as someone who has been a positive influence on you.
- Share your gratitude. Discuss what you are grateful for with your lover, partner, family member or friend. This will increase your awareness of the good things that are part of your life and help you not to dwell on the bad.
- Pay attention to the little things. Find gratitude through the warmth of your bed, in the kind words spoken to you, or through your favorite snack.
Step 4. Face your problems
Problems and worries will usually continue to pile up, especially at the most unpleasant times. Face it as soon as possible, don't let this problem linger, so you can live a prosperous life.
- It may be difficult to deal with the problem. The so-called problems can range from finding a place to rent to confronting a friend over what he or she has to say about race.
- Focus on the solution and not the problem. (Example: If you're having a problem with your boss, instead of worrying about it, try to talk it over privately and give specific reasons why you're having this problem. Also provide a solution.)
Tips
- Feeling bad or unhappy is not a mistake. You don't have to be happy or feel good all the time. You'll feel even more unhappy if you start blaming yourself for not always being happy. Do not like that.
- Go to a friend to free your mind from things or you can talk about it with your friends. Having the help of other people will be very helpful in overcoming the problem.
