Maintaining hair color can be a waste of your pocket. If you've previously dyed your hair but it turned out to be too dark, there are several ways to lighten your hair without spending a fortune. Hair lightening is still possible, but don't expect too much. If your efforts aren't paying off (and you really don't like your current hair color), you may have to resort to the services of a professional.
Step
Method 1 of 5: Dealing Immediately After Dyeing
Step 1. Rinse hair with hot water
The heat will open up the cuticles and remove more dye from the hair. Wet hair completely in the shower or sink.
Step 2. Wash your hair with a clarifying shampoo that doesn't color your hair
You should apply shampoo immediately after dyeing your hair an unsatisfactory color. The shampoo will get rid of some of the new color in your home. Pour the shampoo into your hands to the size of a coin (or as recommended on the shampoo package) and work it through wet, dyed hair. You'll need to massage a little harder than you normally would with shampooing, but you don't need to be too strong.
There are many brands of shampoo that are suitable and can be purchased at places that sell regular shampoo. You just have to make sure the clarifying shampoo doesn't retain the color of your hair
Step 3. Condition the hair afterwards
After you've brushed your hair with a clarifying shampoo, it's a good idea to reduce the impact of harsh cleaning on your hair by moisturizing. Do the conditioning according to the needs of the hair. Pour conditioner into the size of a coin, massage into hair from roots to tips, then rinse thoroughly.
If possible, it's a good idea to wait a few days for your hair to recover from the chemical processing of the dye before trying to clean it. However, if the paint needs to be removed as soon as possible, be sure to restore the hair as much as possible by conditioning
Method 2 of 5: Mixing Baking Soda and Shampoo
Step 1. Mix 2 cups of baking soda and cup of clarifying shampoo in a non-metallic bowl
The alkalinity of the baking soda will open up your hair and allow the shampoo to do a better job of removing the dye. Use a stirrer to mix the baking soda and shampoo.
If you have shoulder length hair, you should add up to 3 cups of baking soda
Step 2. Wet hair with hot water
The heat and baking soda will work together to open your hair cuticles. Do not use cold water because your cuticles will close.
Step 3. Rub it on your damp hair
You can use your hands or a spatula. Swipe until the baking soda and shampoo mixture covers your entire hair so it doesn't streak.
Be careful not to get the mixture in your eyes! It's a good idea to wrap a towel or cloth around your head to keep the mixture from dripping from your hair
Step 4. Wash hair after 5-15 minutes
The length of time it takes for the mixture to sit in your hair will depend on how much dye you want to remove. Leave it for a bit longer to get more drastic results. However, don't let it sit for more than 15 minutes. It's a good idea to do this process several times if 15 minutes isn't enough to lighten your hair color.
Step 5. Partially dry your hair to check the color
Since the hair may need to be washed again, and the heat will cause damage to the hair, it is best to dry the hair only slightly. If the color is good, congratulations! However, if you haven't already, you'll need to re-make the shampoo and baking soda mixture to repeat the above process.
Step 6. Re-create the mixture, if needed
If your hair is not bright enough, you will need to repeat the mixture for better results. You can make the mixture stronger by adding a tablespoon of bleaching powder. You should wear gloves when handling bleach.
When you're done, avoid styling your hair using heat for 1-2 days. Discoloration and decolorization both take a toll on the health of your hair
Method 3 of 5: Wearing a Shower Cap
Step 1. Mix bleach, shampoo and developer
Put the bleach, shampoo, and developer cream in a balanced ratio (1:1:1) in a bowl. Stir until evenly mixed.
You can find a developer at a beauty store, pharmacy, or where you can buy hair dye
Step 2. Apply the mixture to wet hair
Moisturize your hair and dry it slightly with a towel before using the mixture. Put on gloves before handling the mixture. Start at the roots, and work your way up to the tips of your hair.
Step 3. Cover your hair with a shower cap
Leave the mixture in your hair with a shower cap on for 10 minutes. Do not leave it for too long so as not to damage the hair.
If you don't have a shower top, please use a plastic bag
Step 4. Rinse hair thoroughly
Use cold water to rinse the mixture out of your hair. After that, condition the hair to prevent breakage and damage. We recommend that you use a deep conditioning mask.
Method 4 of 5: Making Vitamin C Paste
Step 1. Crush 15-20 vitamin C tablets in a bowl
You can use a mortar and pestle, or a blunt object to avoid damaging the bowl.
Step 2. Add the anti-dandruff shampoo on the crushed tablets
A small amount of shampoo is used, just enough to mix with the powder and form a paste. Mix the two ingredients with a stirrer.
Step 3. Wet hair with hot water
The heat will open the pores in the hair so the mixture absorbs the dye color better.
Step 4. Spread the mixture over your hair
You can apply the mixture by hand. Rub the mixture until it covers the entire painted area. If the mixture is not spread evenly, the hair color may be streaked.
Step 5. Let stand for an hour
Wear a shower cap if necessary. After an hour, rinse the paste out of your hair using cold water.
Moisturize thoroughly with conditioner if hair feels dry after removing the paste
Method 5 of 5: Using Peroxide Spray
Step 1. Pour hydrogen peroxide into a spray bottle
For best results, hydrogen peroxide should be applied via a spray. If you pour hydrogen peroxide straight from the bottle onto your hair, you'll have a hard time estimating how much of your hair has been affected.
This method is the most difficult to predict and not optimal to do. Peroxide doesn't remove paint and chemicals from your hair, it adds new chemicals. You have to be careful when using hydrogen peroxide
Step 2. Spray the peroxide evenly onto the hair
If possible, use the “mister” setting instead of the “stream” setting. Spray the area of hair you wish to lighten from about 1 foot away. Use your hands or a cloth to protect your eyes.
- Peroxide is safe on the skin, but can burn the eyes. If any of the peroxide gets into your eyes, rinse with cold water.
- Drying your hair in the sun can add shine to your hair, but it can also dry out your hair at the same time. Be aware of the effects of the sun if you are going out while the peroxide is still in your hair.
- Use tongs or clips to style your hair so that you can spray the peroxide only on the part of your hair that you want to lighten.
Step 3. Wait for 30 minutes, then rinse
If you take longer, your hair is at risk of drying out, or being over-bleached. Excessive use of peroxide will result in yellowish and orange hair color.
A deep conditioning treatment is recommended if your hair feels dry after being treated with peroxide
Tips
- Ask a hairstylist for advice if your hair has been badly damaged by dyeing.
- Some stores sell shampoo or other hair dye removal products to help remove the dye from your hair.
