Tomatoes are used in a variety of recipes that often have to be diced. Dicing tomatoes is quick and easy, which anyone can master with a little practice. Roma tomatoes (small tomatoes) and regular tomatoes can be diced and added to soups, salads, casseroles, or other dishes.
Step
Method 1 of 3: Dice Ordinary Tomatoes
Step 1. Wash the tomatoes
Before cutting, wash the tomatoes under the tap. Make sure you have removed all dust and dirt. Also remove the product sticker attached to the tomato.
Step 2. Remove the center of the tomato
You can remove the center using a teaspoon or small spoon. Insert the tip of the spoon into the base of the tomato stalk. Scrape the base of the tomato stalk with a spoon and discard.
Step 3. Cut the tomatoes in half
Hold the tomato with one hand, then cut it with a sharp knife. Start slicing it from the bottom and cut it into two equal parts.
Step 4. Cut each tomato into several slices
Place half the tomato slices on the cutting board with the flat side facing down. Make a long vertical cut that will result in several thin slices. The width of the slices should not exceed one centimeter, and try to be the same size.
When cutting, use your fingers to hold the tomatoes from shifting
Step 5. Slice the tomato pieces crosswise to form dice
Turn the tomato slices to the side. Make a vertical cut along the wedge, which will result in a small dice-shaped cube. Try to make the slices the same size and use your fingers to hold the tomatoes from shifting as you cut them. When you're done, you'll have diced tomatoes.
Method 2 of 3: Dice Roma Tomatoes
Step 1. Wash the tomatoes
Wash all Roma tomatoes under the tap, turning as needed to clean the surface and remove dust and dirt. If any stickers are stuck, don't forget to remove them before you cut them.
Step 2. Remove the tops of the tomatoes
There is a small stalk at the top of the Roma tomato. Cut the end of the tomato that has the stem so that the surface is even.
Some people prefer to leave the tomato stalks attached because they are very small and inconspicuous. Skip this step if you don't want to throw it away
Step 3. Cut the tomatoes in half
Cut the tomatoes lengthwise to split them into two halves. Slice with one hand and hold the tomatoes with the other so they don't slide. Try to cut the tomatoes into two equal parts.
Step 4. Cut the tomatoes vertically
Turn both tomato pieces sideways so you can cut them lengthwise. Make vertical cuts so the tomatoes will split into thin slices of the same size.
Roma tomatoes are smaller than regular tomatoes so you have to be careful when handling them with your fingers so they don't slide. Use only your fingertips and be careful not to get your fingers too close to the blade
Step 5. Slice the tomatoes into cubes
Turn the tomato slices sideways and make cuts along the slices. Your Roma tomatoes will turn into several small cubes. When you're done, you'll have diced tomatoes.
Try to make pieces of the same length so that the dice are relatively the same size
Method 3 of 3: Removing Tomato Seeds Before Diced
Step 1. Cut the tomatoes in half
Cut the tomatoes in the middle. Make sure both pieces are the same size.
Step 2. Slice each piece into quarters
Slice each tomato slice into four lengthwise halves. You will get four slices of the tomato halves. Try to make pieces of the same size.
Step 3. Take the tomato seeds by slicing them
Place each tomato slice on a cutting board or table with the skin side down. Slice the tomatoes to remove the white, fleshy parts. Tomato seeds stick to this section so they will be cut off.
The seeds will sometimes still stick to the tomato after you cut the fleshy part. If any tomato seeds are left behind, pick them up with your fingertips
Step 4. Avoid seeding Roma tomatoes
Roma tomatoes are small and soft in texture. These tomatoes usually have very few seeds which are difficult to remove without damaging the tomatoes. It's fine if you leave the Roma tomato seeds sticking.
