Wearing a Greek goddess costume to a costume party? Why not. You can easily make cool and creative Greek goddess costumes at home. Making a Greek goddess costume doesn't take long, and can be made with things you already have at home (or things that are cheap and easy to find). Take a few hours to make a Greek goddess costume, and you'll be ready for a fun costume party.

Part 1 of 3: Making a Toga out of Cloth
Step 1. Make a traditional toga using a piece of cloth
Use a wide white or brown cloth. You can also use sheets if you don't have a wide cloth. There is no need to sew to make a toga, just tie the corners of the fabric with a knot.
- Use a cloth that is not too stiff. Falling and limp fabric will make your costume look even more like a toga.
- If you're worried about looking rude and feeling cold, you can always wear a white top and white bottoms under your gown.
Step 2. Hold your fabric lengthwise to the sides
The length of the fabric should be horizontal when you are ready to wrap it around your body. Hold the cloth so that it rests against your back. Once the cloth is in place, wrap it around your body with the top end of the cloth just under your armpit.
If the fabric is too long, fold the top a few inches to get a gown that is the length you want
Step 3. Wrap the ends of your fabric around your upper body and around your back
Extend your hands down your back to pull the ends of the fabric on your back through the top right of your shoulders. This step is useful for making a gown tie. (In general, the toga usually has a tie above one shoulder only). Hold this corner while you continue to wrap the other end of the fabric around your body.
Step 4. Finish making the gown
Wrap the left end of the fabric around your body one more time. Once the end of the fabric is back in front of your body, pull the left corner of the fabric over your right shoulder and tie it in a knot at the right end of the fabric.
- Double-tie the corners of the fabric to make sure your toga is firmly tied. Tuck the ends of the fabric into the ties or into the fabric so they are not visible.

Part 2 of 3: Making the Crown
Step 1. Gather the supplies you need to make the crown
Many Greek goddesses wore a crown or some kind of headdress. Equipping your costume with a crown will set you apart from those wearing the usual Greek toga costume. You need something that can be used as a light bandana – it could be a piece of string, wire, thin rubber, or thin string. You'll also need artificial leaves and scissors.
- You can prepare gold spray paint but this is not necessary.
- If you don't have these kits, you can buy them all online or at your local craft store.
- If you find fake vines when you buy equipment, the vines themselves can be used as a bandana for your Greek goddess. Just cut it to the desired length and tie the ends to fit your head.
Step 2. Cut your bandana material to fit your head
Make sure you add enough length to each end of the bandana material so that both ends can be tied. Make your bandana loose enough to be easy to put on and take off, but tight enough not to fall off easily.
Step 3. Add leaves to your bandana
Take a pair of scissors and make a small hole in the center of the plastic leaves. After you make small holes in the leaves, insert one at a time into the bandana. Some like to add a lot of leaves, some like to add only a few – it's totally up to you.
Once you've added all the leaves to the bandana, tie the ends of the bandana to complete your crown
Step 4. Spray your crown with gold spray paint if you want the crown to be gold
Place your crown on an old newspaper or paper towel to keep your spray paint from hitting other furniture. Keep spraying your crown until it is completely golden.
Dry the spray paint for 10-15 minutes before you apply it. While waiting for the paint to dry, add the finishing touches to your costume
Part 3 of 3: Perfecting Appearance
Step 1. Wrap the belt around your toga
Instead of using a modern belt, use a piece of string, or cloth/gold straps as a belt. Loop the material around your waist a few times before tying it in a knot for a layered look. This will make your costume look more authentic. Tie your belt in a dead knot, not a butterfly knot.
Step 2. Wear appropriate shoes to complete your outfit
If you want to look like a Greek goddess, then you have to wear appropriate shoes. Do not wear boots or rubber boots. Instead, wear gladiator sandals, or even strappy sandals. Ideally your sandals should be gold or brown.
If you don't have gladiator sandals but want them to look like gladiator sandals, take a strap or ribbon and wrap it around your calf, tying it just below your knee
Step 3. Add appropriate accessories to make your Greek goddess costume more perfect
Accessories can always beautify an outfit, whether it's a costume or a real outfit. Once you've added accessories, you'll get a gorgeous costume that's good enough to earn you first place in any costume party.
- These accessories can be gold bracelets, gold rings, gold earrings, gold shoulder plates, and gold brooches that can be attached to your toga.
- Complete your look with a wavy hairstyle and natural glossy makeup.
Step 4. Customize your look with a specific Greek goddess
For example, bring a small musical instrument if you want to be a Muse. Or, bring items typical of other famous Greek goddesses. Aphrodite was carrying a dove (fake birds are usually available at most craft stores), Artemis was carrying a hunting bow, and Athena was wearing a combat helmet instead of a crown.
