Do-it-Yourself (DIY) cupcake costumes or homemade costumes rival even the sweetest Halloween candy. You don't need to take out a needle and thread – this costume can be made using just glue and staples. Make one for your kids to wear when they go trick-or-treating, or make one for yourself when you're invited to a costume party. Here's how to make a sweet treat-inspired costume.
Step
Part 1 of 3: Making the Cupcake Base
Step 1. Cut the base of your clothes basket
Carefully use a cutter knife to separate the bottom of the basket from the large round plastic part of the basket.
- If the bottom of the basket is too narrow to fit, you will need to cut straight through the back of the basket. The shape of the basket won't change, but you can stretch it if needed.
- If you can't find a clothes basket with a round bottom, you can use a large, bucket-shaped, plastic toy container.
Step 2. Attach the suspenders or suspenders to the basket
Attach a pair of suspenders to the top of the basket and adjust the length so that they can be worn on the shoulders of the wearer.
- You can also tie a pair of cords or thick cords around the basket as if they were suspenders.
- If using a child's toy container, use hot glue to attach the suspenders to the container.
Step 3. Fold the poster boards in about 5 -7.6 cm each so they resemble accordion folds
- Measure the height and circumference of the basket first. The poster board you use should be at least the same height and three times as long as the circumference of the basket. If you are using a standard size poster board, you will probably need 5-6 sheets.
- Stick the posterboard sheets together when you fold them using staples. If possible, hide the staples in the folds.
- You can also use thick foil wrapping paper instead of poster board.
- Make an accordion fold by folding the first part of the poster board on top of the other sheet. Make another section the same width of the fold, but fold it in a different direction so that the ends of the board are still visible. Keep going until all the posters are folded.
Step 4. Cover the basket with the folded poster board
Glue with hot glue to the sides of the basket. Apply glue on each side of the fold and press it into the basket to attach it.
Instead of using glue, you can also attach the folded board by making holes about 5 cm from the top and also 5 cm from the bottom of the folding board. Make a hole in the inner fold so that it is not visible. Insert a pipe cleaner (wire with feathers for crafts) or wire for crafts through this hole and pin it between the hollow walls of the basket
Part 2 of 3: Making the Sugar Cream Layer
Step 1. Cut the legs from your two pairs of tights
Use adult size.
- The color you use will depend on what kind of icing or frosting you want to use on top of your cupcakes. Use white pants for vanilla, brown for chocolate, and pink for strawberry.
- Cut the legs straight.
- For taller children or adults, you may need 3 pairs of pants.
Step 2. Fill the cut pants
Fill each leg with cloth or polyfill cotton foam filling. Tie the two open ends.
Fill the pants so they look full, but not too full or they will become stiff and unbent
Step 3. Glue the legs together
Use hot glue to glue and connect the two ends.
- You'll have one long, snake-like stuffing joint.
- Let the glue dry.
Step 4. Place the sugar cream on top of the basket
Glue about 5 to 10 cm of the mouth of the basket with hot glue. Glue one end of the pants joint to this area. Twist the joints around the rim of the basket, creating the effect of a icing cream.
- Glue the joint as you attach it. Apply plenty of hot glue every 10 cm. Press it into place before continuing.
- Make a circular or spiral pattern. If the loop is on top of the pants, apply hot glue just above the layer below.
- Position each icing slowly, giving it a “stacked” feel. The top layer must match the wearer's body, but the wearer can still stick his head out when he wants to take off the costume.
Part 3 of 3: Final Touches
Step 1. Add sprinkles or sprinkles
Cut the flannel into small pieces with a rectangular shape. You can also cut pipe cleaners or plastic straws into small pieces.
- Use colorful ingredients for rainbow sprinkles, or dark brown ingredients for chocolate sprinkles.
- Place the sprinkles on top of the “cream of sugar” using hot glue.
- Place the sprinkles in such a way that it is random and scattered. Do not place the sprinkles facing the same direction. This will make it look less like a cupcake.
Step 2. Place the cherries on top
Put on a red knit hat and attach a red pipe cleaner to the end of the hat with hot glue.
Bend the pipe cleaner slightly until it looks like a cherry stalk
Step 3. Wear the right clothes under your costume
Wear a sweatshirt and tights.
- The color of the sweatshirt and pants should match the sugar cream color of your cupcake costume. If you're using white for cream of sugar, wear white. Wear a brown outfit if the sugar cream in your cupcake costume is brown.
- Alternatively, you can wear leather-colored pants instead of colored pants. Put on shorts after wearing tights before, and check to make sure your shorts don't extend beyond the bottom of your cupcake costume.
- You can also replace the sweatshirt with a tank top or sleeveless shirt.
Step 4. Avoid wearing inappropriate footwear
If possible, wear shoes that match your pants.
- Wear flat shoes or regular sandals. Don't wear eccentric shoes.
- If you can't match your shoes to your pants, then opt for the simplest pair of shoes you can find.
