There are lots of items to buy in Team Fortress 2, but if you have the patience and dedication, you won't have to spend a fortune to get these items. You can get items randomly and automatically as you play the game for a week. You can also get special items by achieving certain achievements. If you can't get the item or content you want, you can trade off unnecessary and duplicate content for your dream item.
Step
Method 1 of 3: Getting Items as You Play
Step 1. Play the game on a VAC secured server
These servers have already implemented Valve's anti-cheat measures, as are most of the servers. You can see the VAC symbol in the TF2 server browser. If you don't play on VAC servers, you can't get free stuff or content.
Step 2. Play actively for 30-70 minutes
You will receive the goods at some point in this time frame (on average every 50 minutes). However, you don't have to play for that length of time in the same location. For example, you can play 15 minutes in different locations and when you add them up, you end up with the total playing time equal to the recommended duration.
Step 3. Receive notification to get item
To prevent the game from thinking that you are not active, you need to receive a notification of receiving a gift or item before you can get the next item. Once received, the item will be added to the inventory list.
- You will receive items at random, and these items have different chance of appearing based on their rarity.
- You may receive weapons or equipment, or get locked chests. If you get a chest, you'll need to find the key in order to open it (either by buying it or exchanging items with other players).
Step 4. Play for 10 hours per week to reach the receiving limit
Although the exact duration is unknown, you will stop getting free stuff after playing for 10 hours. With an average arrival time of 50 minutes, you can get around 12 items per week. This weekly count resets every Thursday midnight (12pm) Greenwich time.
If you don't play for 10 hours at all, that time will be added to the following week (maximum 20 additional hours). For example, if you don't play at all for one week, you can get double the amount of free stuff or content the following week by playing for about 20 hours
Step 5. Don't idle the server
Due to changes to the giving system or the appearance of gifts, you must stay active to receive new items in order to get the next item or gift. Try to get new items regularly while playing the game.
You can't run multiple windows or the Team Fortress 2 program to get things done faster. This tactic runs the risk of not being able to get all the prizes at all
Method 2 of 3: Obtaining Items or Content from Achievements
Step 1. Complete milestones with each character
Each of the nine characters has three important achievements. These achievements are earned after you complete a number of character-specific tasks. Each important achievement will give you an item or reward for the character in question.
- The characters “Soldier”, “Demoman”, “Engineer”, “Sniper”, and “Spy” gain important achievements once you complete “5”, “11”, and “17” character achievements.
- The characters “Scout”, “Pyro”, “Heavy”, and “Medic” gain important achievements once you complete “10”, “16”, and “22” character achievements.
Step 2. Get items through special achievements in Team Fortress 2
Some achievements in TF2 can give you special items or content:
- “Ghostly Gibbus” – Master the player using “Ghastly” or “Ghostly Gibbus”.
- “Frontline Field Recorder” – Reach 1,000 times the number of views for your TF2 replay video on YouTube.
- “Horseless Headless Horsemann's Head” – Defeat the “Horseless Headless Horseman” character on the “Mann Manor” map.
- "MONOCULUS!” – Defeat the “MONOCULUS” boss on the “Eyeaduct” map.
- “Full Head Of Steam” – Complete seven “Foundry Pack” achievements.
- “Gentle Munitionne of Leisure” – Complete seven “Doomsday Pack” achievements.
- “Skull Island Topper” – Arrive at Skull Island on the “Ghost Fort” map.
- “Bombinomicon” – Arrive at Reach Loot Island on the “Eyeaduct” map.
- “Pyrovision Goggles” – Master other players using “Pyrovision Goggles”.
Step 3. Earn achievements on other supported Steam games
Some games on Steam allow you to earn special items by completing certain tasks:
- “Alien Swarm Parasite” – Get the “Hat Trick” achievement in Alien Swarm game.
- “Black Rose” – Get the “1st One Down” achievement in the Alliance of Valiant Arms game.
- “Bolt Action Blitzer” – Get the “Key to the City” achievement in the CrimeCraft GangWars game.
- “Iron Curtain”, “Enthusiast's Timepiece”, “Lugermorph”, “Dangeresque, Too?”, “Licence to Maim” – Get this achievement by earning the “Special Item” achievement in Poker Night game.
- “Long Fall Loafers, Necronomicrown, Samson Skewer, Bloodhound, Dapper Disguise” – Earn these achievements by earning the achievements "Personality Goes a Long Way", "Book 'Em", "Orb 'n' Legends", "Banjo Hero", and "Wife Trophy" in Poker Night 2 game.
- “Spiral Sallet” – Earn this achievement by achieving the "Mission Accomplished" achievement in the game Spiral Knights.
- “Triclops”, “Flamingo Kid” – Earn these achievements by earning the “All-Star Agent” and “Rookie Agent” achievements in the Super Monday Night Combat game.
Method 3 of 3: Bartering Items on Steam for TF2 Items
Step 1. Open the Steam inventory list to see the items you can trade
You can exchange various types of items that have been obtained when playing games on Steam. For example, you can exchange items you get in Team Fortress 2, Counter-Strike GO, DOTA 2, and various other games. In addition, you can also exchange trading cards that can be obtained from most games on Steam.
- Not all items can be exchanged or bartered. Pay attention to the "Tradable" marker or label in the item description.
- Bartering is one of the best ways you can follow to get keys that you can later use to open locked chests, without spending any money.
Step 2. Determine the value or price of the item
Knowing the price of the item you wish to exchange will make it easier for you to make an offer or ensure that the barter is fair. You can see the market price of an item by selecting it in the inventory list. Check the "View in Community Market" segment for the lowest starting price for the item in question.
If you want, you can sell additional items in the Community Market, then buy the desired TF2 items using the money from the sale. However, this step requires more complicated procedures and is considered less profitable than when you exchange items directly with other players
Step 3. Find people who are willing to trade things for the things you want
In order to exchange things with someone, you must be friends with them on Steam. As an exception, you don't need to be friends with him if you trade items with other players on TF2 who are also playing on the same server.
- You can view other players' items that are ready to be exchanged by going to their Steam profile and clicking " Inventory ". However, the player's inventory list must be set to the “Public” privacy option in order to be viewable if you are not already friends with the player.
- You can find players to add to your friends list by visiting the various TF2 barter communities.
- There are various servers dedicated to “matchmaking” you with other players who want to trade goods.
Step 4. Open the “Trade” window with the player you want to trade with
You can open this window by double-clicking a player's name on the Steam friends list, clicking the arrow icon, and selecting " Invite to trade ". If you are playing TF2, go to the “Customize Items” (M) menu in the game and select “Trading”. After that, you can choose another player on the server.
Step 5. Discuss the terms of bartering with other players
Tell other players what you are looking for and what you can give in return. Ensure that the bids submitted are reasonable and based on existing market prices.
Step 6. Offer items for exchange
Drag the items you are ready to exchange onto the bartering grid. Once satisfied with the offer provided, click the "Ready to trade" box to lock the offer. When other players do the same, you can complete the barter.
Step 7. Click " Make Trade " to complete the barter
After both parties accept the offer, a "Make Trade" button will be displayed. Press the button to confirm the exchange. Items will be exchanged as soon as you both press the "Make Trade" button.
