Unwanted hair on the face can be annoying and annoying. There may be hair growing on the top of the lip or jaw that needs to be removed. Instead of shaving your mustache/beard or spending big bucks at the salon, try facial waxing at home. Start by choosing a wax that suits your skin type and skills. Then, prepare the face by cleansing and exfoliating the skin. Follow waxing etiquette so you can achieve smooth skin without facial hair.
Step
Part 1 of 4: Choosing Wax
Step 1. Get a special wax for the face
Only use facial wax made specifically for the face. Usually these waxes come with a kit that contains a dab or strip made for specific areas of the face. Facial wax is gentler on the face than regular body wax because the skin on the face is more sensitive.
- You can find facial wax at beauty supply stores or online.
- Cold wax kits are ideal for the face. It uses strips of wax because it's less painful and messy, and less damaging to the face than hot wax.
Step 2. Choose a wax that contains aloe vera for sensitive skin
If you have sensitive or acne-prone skin, look for a facial wax made from aloe vera, aloe vera will help lighten the skin and soften the wax's action on the skin. Use facial wax that says “for sensitive skin” (for sensitive skin).
If you use acne medication, use a facial wax for sensitive skin. Acne medications can make the skin extra sensitive to wax
Step 3. Consider sugaring your face instead of waxing
You can replace wax with sugar body (body sugar). This sugar body is softer than wax and easy to clean. The way to apply sugar paste is the same as wax and the cleaning technique is the same.
Step 4. Prepare a dabbing wand and a cloth if using loose wax
You'll need a wand if you're using loose facial wax. You can use a special stick for waxing or an ice cream stick. Prepare a wide and small ice cream stick so that it can also be used for eyebrow waxing.
You will also need strips of cloth to help remove the hair. You can buy ready-made strips of waxed cloth or make your own using white cotton cloth and cut it into small strips
Step 5. Use wax strips for easy application
If you are new to waxing, especially on the face, look for wax that has been packaged in strips. These strips are often supplied with devices for facial waxing. This strip will be cut to a specific area of the face, such as the upper lip, eyebrows, or jaw.
Usually, strips of wax are easier to apply than applying wax with a stick. If you are experienced, you may feel more comfortable with a topical wax
Part 2 of 4: Preparing the Face
Step 1. Clean the face
Start by cleaning your face with your regular face wash. Preferably, use warm water. A clean face will make the waxing process easier and reduce the possibility of acne after waxing.
Exfoliate/exfoliate the skin while cleansing by rubbing the cleanser into the skin in small circular motions. Exfoliating will help get rid of dead skin cells. However, do not rub too hard because the waxing process will be more painful
Step 2. Cut the long hair on the face
If you have a long beard or hair that exceeds 2 cm, shorten it with small scissors or hair clippers. Make sure the length of the fur/hair is cut no more than 0.3 cm.
Do not wax facial hair that is shorter than 0.3 cm as this will lead to ingrown hairs and damage the skin. Wait until the hair grows long enough to be waxed
Step 3. Sprinkle baby powder on the sensitive area
Dab baby powder on the top of the lips and eyebrows so that the wax can hold the hair firmly. Baby powder will also absorb excess oil and reduce the chance of irritation from wax.
Part 3 of 4: Waxing the Face
Step 1. Wash your hands
Clean hands well with soap and water. Clean hands will ensure that no bacteria and germs are transferred to the face during the waxing process.
You also need to work in front of a mirror so you can see your face during the waxing process
Step 2. Determine the direction of hair growth
Notice if any hair grows downwards in a straight line or diagonally towards the center of the face. You will use the wax in the direction of hair growth.
The hair of the eyebrows and upper lip usually grows diagonally. Hair that grows on the cheeks and jaw usually grows straight or diagonally
Step 3. Warm the wax
If you are using wax strips, warm them up by rubbing them between your palms for 30-40 seconds. If you use wax, warm it up on the stove or in the microwave. Test the wax by dabbing a small amount on the inside of your wrist. The wax should be warm enough to get wet and spread easily, but not to a boil.
Step 4. Apply wax on the skin
If you're using a dab of wax, use a swiping stick or an ice cream stick to apply a thin layer of wax in the direction your hair is growing. Then, take a strip of cloth and press it on the wax. Massage the cloth on the wax with your fingers. Move in the direction of hair growth.
If you are using pre-made wax strips, peel off the non-sticky side and apply it to the skin in the direction of hair growth. Press the strip and massage into the skin so that the hair adheres to the wax
Step 5. Let the wax sit for 30 seconds
This will allow the wax to harden on the hair and in the strips. Don't leave it for more than 30 seconds as it will be difficult to release and painful.
Wax shouldn't burn the skin when left on. You will feel the heat, but not to the point of burning
Step 6. Pull the wax in the opposite direction to the direction of hair growth
After 30 seconds, place one hand under the strip and press it against the skin, holding it at an angle. Grasp the base edge of the strip with the other hand. Then, quickly pull the strip in the opposite direction to the direction of hair growth.
You don't need to quickly remove the strip as long as it can be done in one fell swoop. Don't jerk the strip too hard
Step 7. Use a cold cloth or pad to cool the skin
The skin may feel tingly after waxing. Press a damp, cold cloth or pad against the skin so that it feels cool. It's best to do it right after waxing so it doesn't hurt too much.
- Do not use conditioning oil on the skin right after waxing as it will clog the pores. You just need to use a clean cloth.
- Some waxing kits provide a cooling gel for use. If not, try rubbing aloe vera gel.
Step 8. Carefully wax around the eyebrows
Apply a small amount of wax under and above the eyebrows to remove excess hair. If you want to shape your eyebrows, wax them a little at a time. That way, you don't rub too much wax on your brows in one go.
You should not wax your eyebrows too much or shape them using wax. When in doubt, consult a professional
Step 9. Wax one side of the upper lip at a time
If you want to wax the upper lip, use two strips of wax. This way, you are following the direction of hair growth and not irritating the skin. Rub the wax on one side of the upper lip and remove the hair. After that, apply the wax on the other side and remove the hair there.
Part 4 of 4: Caring for Skin After Waxing
Step 1. Moisturize skin
After you've finished moisturizing your skin, apply moisturizer to the area so it doesn't dry out or irritate it. Use a moisturizer with conditioning ingredients such as aloe vera or shea butter.
Don't use a moisturizer with a high oil content or fragrance, as it will clog pores
Step 2. Wax your face every four weeks
To maintain a hair-free appearance, make it a habit to wax every four weeks. This way, facial hair has time to grow. In addition, your facial hair will be easier to remove by waxing on a regular basis.
Step 3. Avoid waxing on acne-prone areas
If you have acne on your face, don't wax this area. If you do, your condition will get worse and cause injury. If your facial skin is acne due to waxing, you should consult a professional.
