Brazilian wax is a method of shaving the pubic hair using wax. Although hair removal can make you feel fresher and the sensation you get in that area will also increase, but it sure feels awkward if you have to do a Brazilian wax at a salon, right? If you feel that way, good news! You don't have to expose yourself to strangers as long as you can do it yourself at home. What's more, if you wax yourself at home, you can relieve the pain and discomfort of plucking a sensitive area of hair by customizing where to remove the hair yourself. To be able to do your own Brazilian wax at home with professional results like at a salon, follow these steps.
Step
Part 1 of 3: Prepare Yourself Before Waxing
Step 1. Find out the risks
Basically, waxing is safe, but removing all the hair from the skin can have undesirable effects. This side effect can actually also occur in salons, but usually professionals can anticipate things like this. Here are things you should pay attention to:
- First of all, waxing (as with any other hair removal technique) runs the risk of causing hair to grow into the skin instead of coming out onto the skin's surface. The result is lumps that are itchy and sometimes painful. However, using waxing techniques and proper care afterward can reduce the risk of ingrown hairs.
- You also run the risk of burning yourself with hot wax. Therefore, it is important to first test the temperature of the wax to be used in a less sensitive area, such as the back of the hand, before applying it to a sensitive area.
- Some people who wax, especially those who are doing it for the first time, suffer from folliculitis; a condition where the hair follicles become inflamed. However, this condition will clear up on its own within a week, and is less likely to occur if you treat your waxed skin properly.
- If this is your first time waxing, consider using a salon instead. That way, you can get an idea of the procedure required and how to avoid its side effects. Look for unisex salons, which can do Brazilian waxes for both men and women. If this is your second time waxing after going to the salon, read on for instructions.
Step 2. Purchase waxing kits
You can get them online, at professional waxing salons, or pharmacies. You have to get the right type of wax, because the area you are waxing is a sensitive area. Make sure the type of wax you buy is meant for Brazilian wax. Don't buy regular waxes that are used for leg or body waxing.
- The utensil should contain a pot to heat the candle in (you can use a microwave or a special wax heater), wax strips, wax sticks, and oil for the finish.
- Some people prefer to make their own “candles” with natural ingredients, such as a mixture of honey, sugar, and other ingredients. If you also want to do that, make sure the ingredients you are going to use are tested on the limbs first; can it be easily cleaned and not sticky.
Step 3. Prepare an area for waxing in your home
The bathroom is the best area, because it will be easier to clean the remnants of wax on the tile rather than on the carpet or wood. However, you definitely also need a place where you can move freely. So, if it turns out that your bathroom is small, use another place.
- Prepare a plastic mat, old newspaper, or other material to cover the floor so the wax doesn't drip directly onto it.
- Provide a tissue or cleaning oil to clean the remaining wax. Olive oil, mineral oil, or any other type of oil will easily remove wax from anywhere (including from your skin).
Step 4. Cut the fur first
You may need to trim the feathers so they are about 1/2 cm long. Hair that is shorter than 1/4cm will be difficult to remove, and as a result the skin will be pulled tighter which is definitely painful. Same as if the fur is longer than 1/2 cm. So, use scissors to trim the hair first to an even length over the area you want to wax later.
Step 5. Take a hot shower
This method helps the skin soften, so the pores will open. Make sure the hot shower isn't too long before waxing, so that your skin is still warm and soft when you start the process.
- Exfoliate your skin while showering. Removing the previous dead skin cells will give a cleaner waxing result. Gently scrub the area to be waxed with a loofah or body scrub.
- Dry your body completely when you're done showering. Remember, the skin must be dry before starting waxing.
- Do not apply lotion or oil to the body after bathing.
- If you want, you can sprinkle a little baby powder on the area to be waxed. Baby powder can help keep the wax from sticking too tightly to the skin.
Step 6. Heat the wax and test it first
Read the instructions on the waxing kit and start heating the wax until it melts. Stir with the wax stick provided. Once it's liquid enough, first test the temperature by dripping a small amount onto the back of your hand. If it's still hot, wait until it cools down a bit. If it's hard to apply, you may need to heat it up a bit longer.
During the waxing process, you may have to stop several times to reheat the wax - don't rush. If you don't want to fire up the microwave every 10 minutes, try using a special wax heater to prevent the wax from cooling
Part 2 of 3: Plucking Hair With Wax
Step 1. Start at the base of the penis
Hair that grows in this area is the easiest to remove. When you can feel the sensation of the hair being pulled straight from the skin, you can decide on the next area. Lift the penis up as you begin to wax the skin along the penis, then turn it over to one side to wax the area on that side. Don't forget the other side.
Step 2. Apply the wax in small squares
Don't spray wax directly on one area at a time; should be at least 1 cm at some point of the feather. Plucking one area at a time is the most effective way to deal with the pain.
- Apply wax in the direction of hair growth. However, pubic hair usually grows in all directions. So you should carefully check the direction of growth before starting to apply wax to the area.
- Use the wand or stick provided to apply the wax in one smooth stroke; like slathering cheese on a biscuit. Do not rub the wax or apply it directly from side to side.
- Change the side of the stick frequently so that it is kept clean and infection is prevented.
Step 3. Glue the strip over the waxed area, then pull it against the direction the hair is growing in
Hair will not be completely pulled out if you do not pull in the opposite direction of growth. Here's what you have to do in order to completely remove the hair:
- After gluing the strip, gently pat the top so that the strip is completely stuck to the wax.
- Use one hand to hold the leather around the strip, especially if you're applying it to loose leather.
- Pull the strip with your index finger and thumb.
- Instantly pull with a direct and fast motion. Don't try to pull it slowly.
Step 4. When the base and shaft of the penis have been waxed, now move to the scrotum
Use two fingers to stretch the skin in the area so it won't be pulled too hard during the waxing process. Use this technique to apply wax in small dots all over the hairy surface of the scrotum, then repeat the above process until the entire area is hair-free.
Step 5. Continue all the way to the back
If hair grows on the back of your scrotum toward your anus, you'll need to be able to bend your body to reach this area. Set your feet into a comfortable open position so you can easily access the back area. Continue waxing once per section until all the hair is removed.
Step 6. See the result in the glass
There may be some feathers left behind. You can repeat the waxing process again or just use tweezers to remove the remaining hair.
Part 3 of 3: Treatment After Waxing
Step 1. Clean the waxed area
Apply the oil included in the waxing kit (or another oil specifically made for leather) to remove any remaining wax residue. Gently rub the remaining wax or just peel off immediately. After that, rinse the whole body with warm water.
- When all the wax is gone, you can use a body wash to wash the area.
- Do not use bar soap, because bar soap can leave a certain layer that can trigger hair growth into the skin.
Step 2. Use a moisturizer
A natural moisturizer (that doesn't contain chemicals) will help soothe the skin, which may be red and irritated after waxing. Use natural body lotion or coconut oil to apply to the waxing area. In addition to soothing the skin, applying a moisturizer can prevent infection and ingrown hairs.
If your skin feels hot after applying moisturizer, use a cold compress to relieve inflammation
Step 3. Don't wear underwear or tight clothes for a few days
Your skin still needs room to breathe and heal; wrapping her in tight clothes obviously won't help. If possible, you can stay naked under a bathrobe for a few hours at home. A few days later, wear boxers as underwear, not the usual underwear. Also, avoid skinny jeans until the waxing area is no longer red.
Step 4. Do not have sex for several days
Your skin still feels sensitive and easily infected. So, it's better to wait until the skin there is no longer red and swollen.
Step 5. Don't sunbathe
Sensitive skin that you just waxed will burn easily if exposed directly to the sun or a tanning machine. Avoid the process of tanning the skin in the area. If you have plans to do so, wait a few days for the waxed skin to heal completely.
Step 6. Visit a doctor if there is an infection
If there is an ingrown hair or an inflamed area, it may need to be treated by a medical professional.
Tips
- Make sure the room you are waxing in has a good ventilation system, as the wax will stick too tightly to your skin if you sweat.
- Taking painkillers before starting the waxing process can help with the pain.
- Exfoliate your skin 24 hours after waxing, then repeat the next day until you intend to wax again. In this way, the risk of ingrown hairs can be minimized.
- Apply moisturizer to the waxed area daily until the next waxing process. This will help the hair to grow above the surface of the skin instead of inward, and prevent the hair from breaking when waxed again later.
Warning
- Avoid exercising after waxing, for at least the first 24 hours.
- The skin on the shaft of the penis and scrotum is very thin and tears easily. So, first stretch the skin in this area (with both fingers) before applying the wax to minimize the chance of getting hurt.
- Avoid saunas, as hot temperatures will trigger excessive sweating in the area to be waxed.
- It is also mentioned that consuming caffeine before waxing causes the pain to double.
