Method 3 of 3: Entering Remaining Phone Number
Step 1. Skip the starting number
This number is used domestically to cover different area codes, and is usually a 1-2 digit number. Do not enter initial digits when calling overseas.
For example, the US has a starting number of "1", and the UK uses the number "0"
Step 2. Use the mobile dialing code if needed
Many countries have a special prefix entered before the phone number, if the phone number is a cell phone number. These codes vary by country, and you must find the correct code before calling.
- The cell phone dialing code can replace the area code, or be entered before/after the area code.
- For example, Mexico uses "1" as a cell phone dialing code, and this code is entered before the area code.
Step 3. Enter the area code
Smaller countries may not have an area/city/region code, but large countries usually use area codes to direct phone numbers to specific locations within the country.
- You'll need to look up the list of area codes for the country you're traveling to if the area code isn't provided as part of your number.
- Replace "ac" in the following format with the area code for the city or area you wish to travel to: ec-cc- ac -xxx-xxxx.
