This wikiHow teaches you how to change the default language in the Google Chrome browser. Remember, web pages will still appear in the language they were written in, although Chrome usually offers to translate the page to the default language. The default language in the Chrome application on Android and iPhone cannot be changed because it will follow the language settings applied to the device.

Step 1. Run Chrome
The icons are circular green, red, yellow, and blue icons.
Step 2. Click at the top right of the browser window
This button will bring up a drop-down menu.
Step 3. Click Settings located at the bottom of the drop-down menu
Step 4. Scroll down the screen and click Advanced
This option is at the bottom of the page. This will open several other options.
Step 5. Scroll down the screen and select Language
This option is located under the " Languages " heading, about the bottom half of the page in the " Advanced " section.
Step 6. Click the Add languages link
located at the bottom of the "Language" section. This will open a pop-up window.
Step 7. Select a language
Check the box to the left of the desired language.
- You may have to scroll down the screen to find the language you want to use.
- Languages are sorted alphabetically.
Step 8. Click Add
It's a blue button in the lower-right corner of the pop-up window. Once you do that, the selected language will appear in the list of languages.
Step 9. Set the language as default
Click ⋮ which is to the right of the language, then click Display Google Chrome in this language in the pop-up menu.
Some languages (eg "English") cannot be set as default. You must select the dialect, for example " English (United States) ", or another dialect
Step 10. Click Relaunch located to the right of the language that has been set as the default in Chrome
Once you do that, Chrome will close and reopen. The language you set will be used as the language in Google Chrome's Settings menu and other default menus.
