Remember, web pages will still appear in the language they were written in, although Chrome usually offers to translate the page to the default language. Check the box to the left of the desired language.

  • Languages are sorted alphabetically.

It's a blue button in the lower-right corner of the pop-up window. Once you do that, the selected language will appear in the list of languages.

Click which is to the right of the language, then click Display Google Chrome in this language in the pop-up menu.

Some languages (eg "English") cannot be set as default. You must select the dialect, for example " English (United States) ", or another dialect

Once you do that, Chrome will close and reopen. The language you set will be used as the language in Google Chrome's Settings menu and other default menus.

You will have to wait about 30 seconds before Chrome reopens

Tips

The default language change does not change the setting against spell checking. Spell check can be changed by clicking Spell check located in the " Languages " section, then click the gray button to the right of the selected language to enable spell checking for that language. You can click the blue button located to the right of the previous default language to turn off spell checking for that language.
