This wikiHow teaches you how to change the language of your Google Home device through the Google Home app on iPhone and Android devices. The language options available for changing the voice of the Google assistant depend on your device and location of residence. After changing the Google Home language, the Google assistant will only recognize commands given in that language.
Step
Step 1. Open the Google Home app
On the app drawer or page, tap the Google Home app icon, which looks like a colorful outline of a house. If it's not already available, go to the app and connect it with a Google Home device.
- On Android devices, you can download the Google Home app from the Play Store.
- On iPhone, you can download the Google Home app from the App Store.
Step 2. Select
It's a three-line icon in the upper-left corner of the screen. The main menu will be displayed on the left side of the screen.
Step 3. Select Devices
On iPhone, this option is the first option on the menu. While on Android devices, this option is in the second option segment. A page showing all connected Google Home devices on the home network will open.
Step 4. Touch the button or on Google Home devices.
Tap the three-dot icon in the top-right corner of the Google Home speaker card. A small drop-down menu will appear.
Step 5. Touch Settings
This first option is at the top of the drop-down menu.
Step 6. Select More
This last option is in the "Google Assistant settings" section, just below the "Voice Match" option on the page.
Step 7. Swipe the screen and touch the Google Home speaker
Touch the name of the Google Home speaker in the "Devices" section of the settings page.
If you have more than one Google Home device, the language change on one of the devices will be applied to all devices connected to the same account
Step 8. Select Assistant Language
On Android devices, this option is the second or last option at the bottom of the page. On iPhone, it's the third option at the top of the page.
Step 9. Choose a different language
The Google assistant voice language on Google Home devices will be changing soon. The other available language options may vary depending on your device and where you live.
- After changing the Google Home language, the assistant will only recognize commands spoken in the selected language.
- If you select a different English accent, Google Home will speak English with the selected accent. Google Home can recognize commands better if you also speak in that accent.
