This wikiHow teaches you how to turn on or off a timer that shows the last time a user was on the WhatsApp network.

Method 1 of 2: Using iPhone
Step 1. Open WhatsApp
This app is marked by a green icon with a phone logo and a white chat bubble.
If this is your first time opening WhatsApp, you will need to set up a WhatsApp account first
Step 2. Touch the Settings button
It's in the lower-right corner of the screen.
If WhatsApp immediately displays the chat, first tap the back button in the upper-left corner of the screen
Step 3. Touch the Account button
It's at the top of the screen.
Step 4. Select Privacy
This option is at the top of the “Account” page.
Step 5. Touch the Last Seen button
It's at the top of the “Privacy” page. There are three options you can see:
- “ Everyone ” – Anyone with your contact information can see the last time you were online (default option).
- “ My Contacts ” – Only people in your contact list can see the last time you were online.
- “ nobody ” – No one can see the last time you were online. This setting also doesn't allow you to see the last time another user was on the network.
Step 6. Tap on “Last Seen” option
After that, the timestamp will be enabled/disabled based on the preferences you set.
If you have timestamps turned on, you'll see them under the contact's name, at the top of the WhatsApp chat page
Method 2 of 2: Using Android
Step 1. Open WhatsApp

If WhatsApp automatically displays chats, first tap the back button in the top-left corner of the screen

Step 4. Select Accounts
It's at the top of the page.
Step 5. Select Privacy
This option is at the top of the “Account” page.
Step 6. Tap on Last Seen option
It's at the top of the "Privacy" page. There are three options you can look at:
- “ Everyone ” – Anyone with your contact information can see the last time you were online (default option).
- “ My Contacts ” – Only people in your contact list can see the last time you were online.
- “ nobody ” – No one can see the last time you were online. This setting also doesn't allow you to see the last time another user was on the network.
Step 7. Tap on “Last Seen” option
After that, the timestamp will be enabled/disabled based on the preferences you set.
