Replacing a Canon jet cartridge can be quite expensive. If you have a color printer, the costs will increase rapidly. Most Canon cartridges are refillable and you can save money by refilling them yourself. So that you can refill your Canon cartridges at home, purchase an ink refill package.
Step
Method 1 of 4: Checking Cartridges

Step 1. Make sure the cartridge is completely empty
- Many jet cartridges have an electronic device that counts down every single character printed.
- When the countdown device reaches 0, you will get an error message on your printer.

Step 2. Follow the manufacturer's directions to remove the Canon jet cartridge

Step 3. Check if the ink tank is empty
If there is still ink remaining, reinstall the cartridge, and when you get another error message, press the “OK” button to continue printing

Step 4. If the cartridge is empty, refill your cartridge
Method 2 of 4: Putting the Ink into the Cartridge

Step 1. Purchase an ink refill pack at an office supply store or online
To fill the cartridge, you need a 30 cc injection with a needle, thumb drill and printer ink.

Step 2. Place the ink tank on top of the newspaper or paper napkin
When filling the cartridge, leakage may occur.

Step 3. Select the ink
For example, if you are going to fill a yellow ink cartridge, use yellow ink.

Step 4. Insert the needle into the yellow ink tank
Method 3 of 4: Replacing the Ink

Step 1. Locate the ink outlet
This hole can be found in the cartridge sponge area.

Step 2. Insert a few drops of ink into this hole to fill the sponge with ink

Step 3. Cover the outlet hole with adhesive to prevent ink leakage while finishing refilling the Canon cartridge

Step 4. Drill a small hole in the cartridge using a thumb drill under the cartridge label
- Examine the cartridge and find the letter that represents the color of the ink, and below it, a circle with an indentation in it.
- As you refill, make a hole in the center of the indentation.

Step 5. Insert the needle into the hole you made in the cartridge and carefully, inject the ink
When refilling, watch the cartridge carefully so that the ink does not overflow.

Step 6. Remove the needle from the cartridge, remove it from the container, and close the ink again to prevent spillage

Step 7. Cover the hole with glue, hot wax or electric adhesive when you finish refilling the Canon cartridge to prevent leakage

Step 8. Peel off the adhesive that you previously stuck to the sponge cartridge
Method 4 of 4: Installing the Jet Cartridge

Step 1. Reinstall the cartridge and select “maintenance” on the printer

Step 2. Run the cleaning mode while you refill the cartridge
