Do you want to know your face shape? You can find out which face shape you have with just a little preparation and examination. Knowing the shape of your face will help you determine what kind of haircut is right, what makeup is right for you, what kind of collar is best for you, and what kind of glasses are right for your face shape.

Part 1 of 2: Determining Your Face Size
Step 1. Tie your hair away from your face
To see your true face shape, you need to tie your hair into a ponytail or a bun. You'll also need to pin up the bangs or any loose hair around your face. By removing hair from your face, you can determine the shape of your face.
You also need to wear a top that doesn't cover your neck and chin, so wear a scoop neck or v-neck t-shirt. You can also take off your top
Step 2. Collect the necessary items
You will need to use a mirror as well as writing equipment, such as an eyebrow pencil, lip or eye pencil, or a marker. You need to make sure that the mirror you are using is large enough so that you can see your entire face. The mirror should either hang on a wall or stand on its own so you can use both hands. Make sure the room you use has sufficient lighting so that you can see your face clearly. You need to be able to see every corner of your face and don't misjudge the shape of the face because there are shadows.
Step 3. Draw your face
Stand in front of the mirror with your face in the middle of the mirror. Mark each end of the face. You can draw an entire area of your face or just mark the dots around the face. Mark the top of your forehead, the ends of your cheekbones, the ends of your jawbones and the bottom of your chin. Once you've marked the dots, connect the dots to make a trace of your face shape.
- You can also do this on the mirror in the bathroom after you shower. All you need to do is draw a sketch of your face on steam. Be sure to notice the shape before the steam dissipates.
- If you don't have a mirror, then you can take a picture of your head with a relaxed face, then draw the outside of your face. The result you get will be the same as before.
Step 4. Determine the size of the face
After you've drawn your face, it's time to determine your face size. Pay attention to the width of your forehead, cheekbones and jawline as well as the length from forehead to chin. Compare each side and determine which area is the most prominent, which part is the smallest and how the relationship between the sides is. Keep some questions to heart. How wide is my forehead compared to my jaw? How wide are my cheekbones compared to my forehead and jawline? How long is my face? The relationship between these sizes can determine the shape of your face. See the next section to determine your face shape and understand the meaning of each face shape.
- If your face appears to be between two shapes, then you can try a more accurate way of determining which area is wider than the other. Measure in a mirror the length between the two sides of the forehead, between the cheekbones or temples, between the ends of the jaws and the length from the chin to the tip of the hairline on the head. Use these detailed measurements to determine the largest and smallest areas around your face.
- If you are not sure about your face shape, then ask a relative or close friend to help determine it. Other people often find it easier to determine your face shape because they see your face more often than you do yourself.
Part 2 of 2: Understanding Your Face Shape
Step 1. Understand a round face
You have a round face if the width of the face is about the same as the length, you have rounder edges than sharp edges. Your jaw is round and wide. People who have this face shape often think they have chubby cheeks, but actually they can give a youthful appearance.
For people who have a round face shape, avoid haircuts that fall straight to the chin line because it can accentuate a short and round face shape. Have a cut that falls below your chin so it can give the appearance of a longer face shape
Step 2. Understand the heart-shaped face
You are considered to have a heart-shaped face if your forehead and cheekbones are wider than the bottom of your face, your jawline is angled and your chin is prominent and sharp. People with heart-shaped faces often have large foreheads and have a widow's peak, which is a part that matches the name. This shape is often referred to as an inverted triangle shape, so it can accentuate the chin and the width of the forehead and cheekbones.
For a heart-shaped face, have thick bangs on long, wavy hair so that it can hide a large forehead and balance the size of the face. In addition, you can have bangs that reach up to your chin to reduce the bulge of your jawline. Avoid haircuts above the chin because it can make your face look unbalanced
Step 3. Understand an oval-shaped face
You have an oval face if your cheekbones and jaw are about the same width as your forehead is slightly wider, your face is slightly longer than it is wide, and your chin is slightly rounded and smaller than the width of your forehead.
There are only a few haircuts that are not suitable for oval faces, because they are very well proportioned. This face shape is suitable for any hairstyle, be it bangs, no bangs, long or short, so it looks good when you have the haircut. This face shape is often considered the ideal face shape because of its proportions and ability to adapt to any hairstyle
Step 4. Understand the shape of a square face
You have a square face if your faces are the same width and length, your cheekbones and jaws are the same size, your hairline is flat and your jawline is slightly arched. The forehead can be large and is usually about the same size as the cheekbones.
For a square face, have a long haircut that can add length to the face and blur the size of a wide, prominent jawline. You can also have fine curls around your face to soften the sharp corners of your jaw or a hairless center to draw attention to your face and add length to your face. Avoid blunt bangs and short, straight haircuts as they can accentuate sharp corners of the face
Step 5. Understand the oval-shaped face
You have an oval face if your forehead, cheekbones and jaw are the same width, your face and forehead are long, and your chin is slightly sharp. Your face will appear longer than it is wide, at least 60% longer, which is what distinguishes this face shape from an oval face shape. This face shape is also known as a rectangular face shape.
For an oval face, have a haircut that can add width to your face such as long or wide curls. The larger the hair around your cheekbones, the wider your face will appear. You can shorten your face with thick bangs or side bangs
Step 6. Understand the face with diamond shape
You have a diamond face shape if your chin is narrow and sharp, your cheekbones are high and prominent, and your forehead is smaller than your cheekbones. This face shape is longer than it is wide and can have a wide jaw with a pointed chin.
