Most of you have probably had a hard time buying a hat. There is a very nice and cool looking hat on the mannequin, but when it is worn it is completely unsatisfactory. Then, you start to think that all hats look weird or silly in your head. You get paranoid about hats. However, now is the time to change your mind and try again. By choosing a good hat according to the shape of your face, your appearance will be more stylish and stand out.
Step
Part 1 of 3: Measuring Face
Step 1. Measure the forehead
Use a tape measure to measure the width of the forehead. Measure from the top of one eyebrow to the top of the other. Record the numbers.
Step 2. Measure the cheekbones
Still using the tape measure, measure the distance between the two upper cheeks. Start and end at the bulge under the outer corner of the eye. Record the numbers.
Step 3. Measure the jaw line
Use the tape measure again to measure the lower end of the chin to below the ear. Stop at the point where the jaw is pointing up. Multiply the number by two. Record the results. That's your "jaw line".
Step 4. Measure the length of the face
Take a tape measure to measure the distance from the center of the forehead (at the hairline) to the lower end of the chin. Record the numbers.
Step 5. Ask the following questions
With reference to the measurement results, answer the following questions:
- What is the widest part of my face?
- What is the shape of my jaw?
- How long is my face? Is it longer than it is wide, and if so, how much?
Part 2 of 3: Determining the Shape of the Face
Step 1. Look for oval face markings
The length of the oval face is approximately one and a half times greater than its width. The forehead is slightly wider than the jaw line, and the corners of the jaw are rounded. The oval face is shaped like an egg.
Step 2. Look for signs of a “round face”
Round faces are the same length and width. The signs of a round face are a round chin, full cheeks, and a round hairline. Round faces look younger than other face shapes.
Step 3. Look for signs of “long face”
This face shape is longer than it is wide. The forehead, cheekbones and jawline are roughly the same size. Long faces may have a high forehead.
Step 4. Look for “heart face” signs
This face shape is very common. On a heart-shaped face, the narrowest point is the chin. Heart faces have a broad forehead and/or broad cheekbones, and a sharp chin.
Step 5. Look for “square face” signs
The square face is nearly the same length as its width. The distance from the forehead to the chin and from the cheek to the cheek is approximately the same.
Step 6. Look for signs of “triangular faces”
A triangular face is characterized by a wide jawline, slightly smaller cheekbones, and the smallest forehead. It can be any length. The triangular face is also called the pear face.
Part 3 of 3: Choosing a Hat That Fits Your Face
Step 1. Choose a hat for the “oval face”
Please try all kinds of hats. You are gifted with a face that fits just about anything. Choose any hat that suits the mood as long as it matches the outfit. Oval-faced women can wear any type of hat.
- The possibilities are endless. You just need to consider personal taste.
- Try experimenting with earrings, necklaces, and bracelets.
Step 2. Choose a hat for the “round face”
Add asymmetrical aspects to the face. You can wear a fedora hat, newsboy hat, or pet hat. This symmetrical face requires a new angle in the form of asymmetry. A round shape requires a slimmer impression.
- Avoid hats with rounded tops that accentuate a round face shape even more.
- We recommend choosing a hat with a high peak and straight edges to give the face an angle.
- Your priority is a hat that distracts people from a round face.
- Tilting the hat forward will distract from the face and create a bold line.
Step 3. Choose a hat for the “long face”
Try a hat with a wavy edge and a low top, such as a beach hat, cloche, or fedora with a wide brim. The wide edge of a beach hat can reduce the length of the face.
- Avoid hats with high peaks that only make the face longer.
- Cloche worn low to the eyebrows helps cover a high forehead and create the impression of a shorter face.
- The wide edges of the fedora are also able to balance the vertical curves.
Step 4. Choose a hat for the “heart face”
Choose a medium-brimmed hat, such as a medium-sized fedora, boater, cloche, homburg, beanie, or beret. All are good choices because they can balance the width of the forehead.
- Tilting the hat to one side will streamline the face and draw attention to the eyes.
- In fact, all types of hats will suit you, except for wide-brimmed hats.
- Avoid hats that highlight the shape of the face. Stay away from wide edges that accentuate a broad forehead and narrow chin.
Step 5. Choose a hat for the “square face”
Please experiment with the round model. Your symmetrical face with firm lines requires rounded features that soften facial lines. A round top hat and wide brim will soften a square face and create the illusion of being tall and round.
- Choose a beach hat, cowboy hat, homburg, cloche, or toque that gives a feminine and seductive touch.
- Berets will lengthen and soften the contours of the face.
- Tilting the hat to one side will eliminate the symmetrical pattern on the square face.
- A beach hat with sunglasses and a floating maxi dress will create a bohemian style. The perfect combination for a beach vacation.
- Don't wear short-brimmed, borderless, or square hats. This type of hat will accentuate a square face shape.
Step 6. Choose a hat for the “triangle face”
You are free to try on many hats. The triangular face is the same as the oval face in terms of the number of hats that can be worn. Make sure the hat you choose balances the shoulder line and matches the outfit.
